Well, the KF went belly up on me. Leaks like crazy, and damned if I can figure out why. I watched 2 YouTube videos, neither of which were in English, to make sure I had all the o rings and whatnot intact. Full rebuild, and, still leaking. If I can't think of some amazing fix by morning, back it goes.

At least I'm tootling away on my Merlin. Just recoiled it (just because) and rewicked it, and with the airflow turned less than a 1/4 open, it's tootling quite well. One out of two is OK. Tomorrow, SS arrives and TC begins.

OK block the air intake and suck hard.
Does it achieve and maintain a strong vacuum?

your wicking is suspect. likely a bad or mis seated o ring, usually the one in the top cap
post a pic

Yes, I get a solid vacuum when I block the air flow holes completely. I'm going to break it down again this morning after some more coffee and try, try again.

If you pull a vacuum through the drip tip while covering the air holes and seal it off with your tongue, you should be able to hold it for at least 10 seconds with no drop in vacuum.

A tiny wrinkle in an o-ring will cause all sorts of slow leaks. Do you put a dab of juice on the rings when you refill?

I tried juicing the rings when I reassembled. The problem is, it's not a slow leak. It's pretty fast. There has to be a missing ring or something to cause such a large problem, but I didn't spot it yesterday. Hopefully better luck today. Good thing my Merlin is working out so I can destress with that while fiddling around.

Visible o-rings are shown in this diagram. The usual culprit is the small ring inside part #4 that the chimney tube slides into. It comes in the typical Kayfun o-ring kit. It's a little hard to install, but once you learn to slide it in from the side of the hole and then press it in place, it's easy. That's one that can be pushed out when you assemble it.

I remember when I got my first kayfun 3.1 ES clone, the frustration getting the bottom piece (juice collector I think it's called)off. No matter how I tried that piece just didn't want to unscrew.I froze it then heated it but no way was that piece gonna unscrew. On a whim I decided to unscrew the positive pin and wouldn't you know it that collector unscrewed easy peasy....Good thing too as my next move would have been a vice and vice grips (I had already tried plyers).

Oh the joy of learning how to use yer equipment!....:)

Those little waffle rubber sheet jar openers from Dollar Tree or Walmart are a must to take apart some RBA's. They are even better than strips of duct tape!

Eskie, if you can pull and hold the vacuum with your tongue, then the o-rings are doing their job. The next suspect is an over-saturated wick that's dripping juice down into the air tube below the wick. Locate the air hole in the base, turn it so it's down, and hold a tissue under the air hole while you blow into the drip tip.

Tip the Kayfun with the 510 connector up at an angle when you blow it out into the tissue. You want to clear the air tube of juice. If you don't hold it up with the 510 connector elevated when you do this you will empty the juice from the tank into the tissue!

Thanks. I'll give that a shot. The KF5 is a bit different in the setup of the airflow ring, but maybe I'll spot something today. I did manage to tear one on the o rings on the drip tip, so I'm already digging into the goody bag for a replacement. The joys of new stuff.

I missed the fact that you were using a KF5. I assumed it was a KF3.

These work well, too :)

I picked up a similar one at Dollar Tree for my Mother, who doesn't have the strength to open most jars without some leverage. She loves it. Amazon gets more for the same item. When I saw it I thought about atomizer gripping.

The new drip tips with dual o-rings are way tight when you first try to remove them. I put a drop of juice on the o-rings the first time I have to twist them out for an air tube cleaning.

Ah, but it doesn't have the ceramic tips for compressed coils ;)

You are right! I've almost bought ceramic tweezers several times when I was buying other hardware, but I've never seen the need to do that. I just heat to a dull red, release the fire button and immediately compress the coil with a good pair of SS tweezers. Only once have I caused a shorted coil message because I tweezed too quickly. The mod just shut down and reported a shorted coil.

I'll eventually put a pair in my cart. Teflon is a good idea.

A new pic for you. The new mod we have just finished. It is a stabilised olive with pink highlights. It's actually a fully functional squonker but I am not completely convinced on the benefits of squonking, so I made some ink swirled SS tubes to sit in the space and show through the hole.
