Thank you for the vape-a-versary greets. I'm a TEENAGER now! Yet I recall the birth date like it was yesterday.

This year, I celebrated with my new treasured gift of a mod... it's delightful! I'm puffin' Tootles all day long.

:lol:Wow, I'm sub-ohming.

For about ten years I've been building coils with 5 or 6 wraps of 30g Kanthal wire and have been happy with it. When I went to rebuild my coil yesterday I noticed I was getting low on 30g wire, so I decided to try some 28g wire that I've had for years. I didn't know how many wraps I needed to use and decided to try seven. When I checked it on my mod, it showed .85Ω. I almost threw it out so could try again, but ended up wicking it and giving it a try.

I really like it. At 8.5W, it heats up quick and seems to give me more vapor than the smaller wire. I don't think I can go back.

That's about all I use anymore, 28ga. Kanthal. I usually do 6 wraps 2.5mm id. I'm sticking with it as I have a 250' spool. lol

Try 26g mate. even better! Modern MTL RTA's work great with lower ohms and higher wattage yet still the same MTL airflow range! Gives a more powerful vape with more vapour and bags more flavour. MTL with 1.0ohm and higher is old school whether vaping in power mode or using TC with Titanium or Zirconium I aim my builds to come out around 0.4 at 22w gives an intense MTL vape.

No thanks. I don't need a more powerful or intense vape. I'm pretty old school.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think rampup sucks on 26ga for lower wattage, even for 25W. I ditched 26ga for 28ga years ago. It's not bad if you have a mod with preheat or curve, though. But 28 and thinner is still better for me. No preheat needed at 10W or less on thinner wire.

With Kenthal I still use 30ga. It just works for me. Sides all clouds are the same size when you close your eyes.
My Caravela only does volts, doesn't even know that watt guy. Bat goes in at 4.16 volts, and comes out at 3.5. .......... and it tastes soooo good.
And, I still wrap around a silica wick, (3mm Ekowool) and my trusty paperclip.

I used to love my silica wicks... I have many feet of it in several sizes still and I have to try it again.

The last time I used silica wicking was when I first started using Kanger Protanks(about 10 years ago). I could never get it to wick consistently. It was a constant fight. I was always either getting dry hits or gurgling. When I switched to cotton wicking, all of that stopped. I did like that I could dry burn the coil without rewicking though.

I used some silica with the Protanks too, and also the Sabot thingie for the Billet Box. That came out around the same time as the original Billet Bridge, and the Bridge won out.

The Sabot was okay, but I definitely preferred the Bridge once Aspire switched the BDCs to BVCs. Vertical made ALL the difference in the world.
