We have a decent recycling program in the region. They don't do batteries or small electronic appliances yet though. We can drop off electronics at our local Canadian Tire. For batteries I can throw them in the expired battery bin at the Avondale store (corner store).

I have a large compost bin in our back yard for pretty much all our yard and most kitchen waste.

Our neighbor behind us had chickens prolly bout 50 and we would throw all our scraps over the fence and they would fight for their share, it was great to watch being a city slicker I really never had any hands on with chickens unless they were fried. My fav was throwing a unsliced loaf of bread and watching them go at it. It got to the point every time someone would open the back door they would flock to the fence and chatter. I miss those chickens since the owner died a couple years back and they got rid of the chickens.
I bought a couple 18650 flashlights from FT to get a 2nd life out of the batts that don't cut it in my PV's no more.

Just an FYI:

Batteries - Besides "Our" own way of purchasing larger quantities of batteries if you're "verifiable" - I found a very Good Vendor who has really great customer service and prices too: Authentic AW Batteries - RTD Vapor (BTW: Tell "Randy" that your "Uncle" sent Ya' . . .;) )

Used Batteries Disposal:

Best Buy (and/or most stores that sell Electronic); Target; Hardware Stores: Lowes/Home Depot/ACE; Home Foods (Yes - I didn't believe it at first but they do along with some other items); Batteries Plus Bulbs, and Most Major Cell Phone Stores (Apple/AT&T/Verizon/Sprint/MetroPCS/Etc.) . . .

Even some Cities/Towns/Municipalities have Recycle Battery Bins at their "City Halls" too . . .

Besides this list there is the website Call2Recycle | United States where "You" can locate a place for Battery Disposal in your community . . . They even have a "Recycle on the Way" Rechargeable Battery & Cellphone Dropoff Locations | Call2Recycle | United States locator for locations that you can find to dispose of the batteries on the way while you are already out doing something else too . . .

Hope this information is helpful . . . :D

As said, diminished capacity. when they no longer charge / retain charge, or no longer provide the vape time they should, time to let go.

Blow up? Possible if overstressed in their aged decrepitude, especially if in a mech or other high power device (which could be a TC mod...)

Recycle ALL depleted batteries. Mother Earth will thank you. Wrap a turn or two of tape - electrical if you have it, cellophane (Scotch) if not, or even masking or painters tape - end to end over the contact areas so there's no chance of shorting out in the recycle bin.

Most Lowe's, Homely Dopes will take them, bins usually near the exits or return area. The mentioned battery shops should as well.
I read & liked your post yesterday & woke up this morning with it on my mind. So, I wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU!!!

There are a gazillion threads & battery blogs about what type of batteries to use, but it escapes me if there are any that explains HOW TO SAFELY dispose of a these batteries.

I'm almost certain for many of us, it would've never dawned on us to tape off the these batteries. We know it's not safe for them to lay wily nilly in a pocket against other items like coins & keys so it would stand to reason that same measure of safety should/would carry over to recycling them.

So, once again....THANK YOU for a very informative post!!!!

Patience, Lex! It's not here yet! The shipping label is created tho. They've got to make it. The same boxes are used for the regulated & mech's. They have to wire it up. Once it ships I'll have it that day or the next.

this is the way I did it for a long time - very much enjoyed the results
the 'cotton yarn' was consistently GREAT ! over-n-over and dirt cheap at wallyworld
I'd cut off 15'-20' throw it into a pot of boiling water then let it hang from a curtain rod overnight
made me feel better about finger germs from the store...

good luck

Picked up the Peaches and Cream yarn at Wally's. $1.50 for a 5 lifetime supply. Couldn't find my cheesecloth but wifey already had some. both are drying now. Looking forward to rewicking in a few hours.

WOW WOW WOW!!!! This truly brings back memories. I bought all this nonsense {not nonsense for you- speaking for myself} 2 years ago. The thrill of wicking with yarn & cheesecloth was fun until it wasn't. I still have 99.9% of it left.

@Foggy back in the day we didn't boil any of it. Oh & if you run out of cheesecloth, Amazon is where I got mine.

Can anyone recommend a good marker for dating batteries that doesn't wear off? I know it's time for me to replace my batteries but the ones I have that I did bother to mark, I can no longer read the date. :nah:
I don't know of a marker that doesn't wear off. I use a DYMO label maker to create labels with the date purchased and from where on mine. For batteries I am rewrapping, I create that label, affix it and then wrap in transparent heat-shrink tubing.

I use Sharpie Permanent Markers from Lowes, they say something like "400F Rated" on the package they come in..

still don't last and rubs off. I am trying a small piece of scotch tape over it, I tootle puff, so my batteries do not get even a little warm.

The ones I have have have lasted me a while now compared to regular Sharpies.. Almost a year on some batteries and no sign of wear... Hm one of those weird things I guess...

well then, that's great !

if not for a few things, namely air flow & increased power - I'd still be rockin' with that set-up

it worked so very good for me for a long time /// it's what set me in stone to NEVER SMOKE cigarettes again

IMO-a simple, cheap, effective way to vape...

Here's something I bet most of us don't think of either. We assume it's only our e-cig batteries but it's the ones we use in our house as well. When I throw out my 9-volts and other batts I always tape the ends like @DavidOck says. Good Advice for sure!!:thumb:

Sharpie works good. If you clean the surface with some rubbing alcohol and mine said leave for 12 hours untouched for permanent mark. If you get your hand oils on it before it cures it will rub off.

I'm all about CHEAP!!! Been playing with the Evod tanks for a few months now. Just cant imagine a simpler RBA. I've had the airflow on them jackedup to the point that they are comfortable lung hitters *for me*. Ended up backing them down to MTL tho.
Just dropped My Cloupor mini + in the mail this morning in trade for a box full of ProTanks and related extras. PIFed my eGrip V1 w/RBA base in the same shipment. Lookin forward to seeing what I can do with the PTs.

I'm definitely locked in on the low power experience. [Edited] I like my Japanese cotton but always find myself guessing when I cut off a new strip. I expect the rayon I'm getting in my Cloupor trade to be the same problem. Looking forward to the yarn and/or cheesecloth eliminating the guessing game.

When I was building PT coils I used a 2.25mm nail to wrap them. I then cut a strip of yarn, double it and pull it through with a piece of wire. Cut the ends to match in the coil base, and that was that. Works well in PT coils. No guessing, no fuss!

By any chance do you have a link for the tubing?
