From this angle, it looks as though both legs are running to the center pin.

Okay...now for the dual coil version. This may be a dumb question but I'm going to ask it anyway. Could I wrap the legs together ? I figure if they are touching it shouldn't be a problem . It would make it much easier for the coils not to move around.

Why bother with a dual coil. You may drive yourself batty.

Okay last question of the night... does it matter if I cut against the grain of the cotton? Or is it preferred practice to cut along the grain or lengthwise?
Always cut with the grain. Longer strands wick better, and hold together.

That's my complaint about the Melo III. I only tried it twice after it came on my first Pico. Just don't care for the draw and couldn't seem to adjust it to my liking.
I used the 1.8 ohm Triton coils in it and with the afc about 1/2 way closed, it was decent. Have you looked at the Digiflavor Siren? I'm diggin' it! Fused clapton SS 30gx2/36g wrap, 3.5 mm ID.

I tried the 1.8 Triton and the Triton RTA in it. It wasn't terrible at all. I just don't really like the draw as well as I do on a bunch of other tanks I have, so I just keep it on the shelf for now. I'm sure I'll pull it out and try again some day. Haven't tried the Siren.

OH MY, @Bea-FL ! I can only imagine how tiny they are. We have never found a nest here at home, but we feed lots of Rubythroats. They are one of my absolute favorites.
I ran a bluebird trail for years and worked closely with rehabbers and a bander. The smallest species of hatchlings I have experienced would be the Black Capped Chickadees, but hummer babies would be even smaller yet. How special that you got to work so closely with them. The rehabbers have a very difficult job, indeed! I am happy to know you and it speaks volumes about the kind of person you must be.
I actually caught a little Ruby throated humming bird in my hand. 17 years ago a little humming bird flew in my neighbors apt..so i caught the little bird for her. The little bird was so scared it fainted. Took tge bird outside. Blew on the feathers. The little birf came to and flew away.
