And to be clear it isn't that I think people mean it that way as a general rule. I'm just remembering how I felt back then, and when people talked about stinkies, it did make me feel like I was looked down on in some ways.
Well, if it helps, I don't pay attention to who is or isn't still using cigarettes. That is just something that each person has to work out for themselves. It only matters that everyone who is here has things in common(like vaping--to whatever degree) and even tho I may or may not agree with a vaping decision, I still try to treat everyone the same. Not one of us is any more or any less than the next. No matter what.

That's wonderful! It was much more difficult for me. I dual vaped/smoked for 3 years. Of course the vaping helped me cut down tremendously, but I was still smoking 5 - 10 per day. Better than 2 packs a day.
Yep...Early on I was using a Cig-A-Like Pre-Made($$$OMG)and there were numerous times I immediately picked up my lighter...Attempted to flick it's ash...And even now I still do some of the funny little hand things...The addiction to Smoking went well past just nicotine for me...Nicotine is an addictive substance and certainly isn't great for us...But compared to Smoking...I'm thrilled to have it be a thing of the past...Trig :D

OK, so I normally don't say anything but for some reason this phrase is bothering more lately. So not directed specifically at you, but more as a general "something to think about" for anyone who says this.

Most, if not all of us encountered judgmental people when we were smoking. Also, some in this thread still smoke. The use of the term "stinkies" comes across to some of us as the same type of judgmental attitude that we got from certain non-smokers. So just something to think about for those who use this phrase. I know most people don't mean it to come across that way but...

...at about the 6 month mark of my vaping journey I almost walked away from ECF and from vaping. There were two semi related reasons. One was the fact that I felt like I was failing at it, because I hadn't just stopped smoking immediately like so many seemed to do. The other was that I kept running into comments on ECF that made me feel like more of a failure because they seemed to imply that smokers were sort of second class related to vapers. Things like the term "stinkies" for example.

I stumbled into the TP thread, and was lucky enough to have someone (thank you by the way, you know who you are) say just the right thing to me to encourage me when I needed it, and so I stuck with it. But I sometimes wonder how many leave because it makes them feel unwelcome.

And to be clear it isn't that I think people mean it that way as a general rule. I'm just remembering how I felt back then, and when people talked about stinkies, it did make me feel like I was looked down on in some ways.

Two thumbs up on them two posts Sir Kad!
(from a person who still has a smoke once every couple o'months)

Finding juice you like is part of the trick. Your taste buds are going to recover and juice that was great yesterday will be unvapeable tomorrow.
I dumped a whole lot of my first DIY because I thought it was great, made big batches and then my taste changed and I hated it. A couple hundred ml down the drain. It taught me the importance of small batches until you are *really* sure. Even then, who knows.

The 18650 is just a touch bigger.
Thanks for posting that!!! Now I don't have to clean my counter off to take a pic. hehehehe
Right there with Ya' on this (worse is "another coffin nail" - Like I don't know already) . . .

I thought many times about leaving ECF for similar reasons . . . However, when I read most of these types of statements and/or comments I just skip over them and try to remember that - Thankfully - as a dual user and someone who is still determined to quit smoking eventually to become I full time vapor, not only I - but many others here have many supporters in this thread and on ECF as a whole (especially people like @Bea_FL ) and realize they do not mean to be negative or make what might be considered a negative comment towards anyone who still is smoking cigarettes/tobacco, but they are just reminding themselves and supporting other people why they are and should continue to be vapors . . .

BTW: To all Ya' vapors out there just remember that Vapor smells and "YOU" do too, just not as bad usually . . . ;) :pervy:

It is. And some people can smoke their whole lives and it doesn't even phase them. Like my Uncle Buddy. OMG he's 80, as healthy as a horse, and has drank and smoked his whole life!!! Me on the other hand, struggle to breathe with damaged lungs.

Wow, I never even considered that using the term 'stinkie' in relationship to smoking would be taken in that manner. I am guilty of calling cigarettes stinkies, cause , well, they do stink.(cig, not the person). And I have been known to acknowledge about how much patience people around me had when i was smoking because, to be around me at that time must have taken a lot of luv to do so.(I was a chimney).

I always remember being treated like a second class citizen in relation to smoking as I did encounter it on a daily basis when I was still working. So if I have made anyone feel that way, I really do apologize as I always mean it to describe the object, NOT the person.
@kad2371 I was planning to say exactly what @Sugar_and_Spice posted above so I won't repeat a post beautifully stated.

…except to say that I would be mortified if I knew something I said or did unintentionally caused someone any discomfort…so thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Well, if it helps, I don't pay attention to who is or isn't still using cigarettes. That is just something that each person has to work out for themselves. I just call them what they are, cigarettes. I assume that all the cutesy names people use for them here are because they're loathe to say the word cigarettes. Almost no one here is willing to use that word.

Cigarettes just have such a stigma now. Back when I started smoking, most people did too. Or at least the ones I grew up around. Now, people look at you like you're from another universe. Condescending. People even look condescending to me vaping and tell me I'm still smoking.
I think what Kad was trying to say is that this is one of those "safe" places. To be "us". And get support. For someone new to vaping, and trying to quit, it makes you feel like there's something "wrong" with you if you are unable to immediately quit smoking like "everyone" else on the forum. I was one of those people and it made me think I'd never be able to quit. Maybe that's stupid, weak, mental, etc., but it's how I felt anyway.......

So to conclude............they DO stink. They make your clothes stink, your car, your hair, everything. But it's a life threatening addiction too. And addiction is a tough thing to break, and sometimes even tougher when everyone around you treats you like a second class citizen.
Gosh, I hope all this makes sense.

    Well said Atcha!

And to just again try to be clear I don't take any offense to it anymore, but for some reason the last few days I have noticed it more, and thought about how it made me feel a year and a half ago. And so I guess I am just wondering if, by using terms like that, we might be unintentionally driving away new people who are struggling to quit.

And for the record, other than a couple of short stints, I have been a dual user for almost 2 years now. Though I have made a promise to quit, and so I have set a quit date, and am going to do my best to stick to that quit date this time around. And yes, even though I am still smoking, I know that they (and my car, and my clothes, etc) stink.

Totally agree. However, people who do not smoke or even some medical professionals still treat smoking as a 'choice'. They think that all we need to do is just stop 'doing it'. This is where education comes in BIG time. IF those type of people would get a hint and realize that it is an addiction(as powerful as any illegal ones are) then there may be some hope in getting help to those who wish to stop. They hear the keyword 'nicotine' and that is all they hear. Its so sad that they have resorted to treating people whom have an addiction as 'someone beneath them'.

It does make sense. I think we have all felt that way to a lesser or larger extent during our smoking time.

Nothing "stupid, weak, mental" about your feelings. Our feelings ARE our feelings. Everyone has the right to have them and no one needs to apologize for them. I'm glad so many here feel comfortable enough to share them. Because when they do, others often find out that they too have the same feelings and it gives them comfort in knowing they are not alone in what they feel.

Yep, very true. I really was on the verge of giving up and just going back to smoking my 2 pad until I read this post a year and a half ago.

My physician whom I actually like a lot has no clue about the smoking addiction. I asked him once how much it is covered in medical school and apparently not much...about the same as good nutrition and a healthy diet. So unless they take it upon themselves to study these things further they think all a smoker has to do is the patch or cold turkey or join Weight Watchers for weight reduction.

At least that's what he told me he recommends and added that both issues simply require willpower. He obviously has no clue.
