I did have caution tape wrapped around it so I would see it and avoid it, who ever borrowed it last, took it off and I keep forgetting about until it’s too late.

There are certain things that could have flashing lights around them, yet I'd still crack into 'em.

The Force is strong with these things. ;)

Some folks suggest starting the generator once per month, some say twice per month and others say more frequently.... I really haven't looked into that yet and so I can't provide accurate data … However I do know that letting a generator (or any engine) sit for long periods of time without running them is one of the worst things you can do to them.

Retired hydroelectric plant electrician. We had large diesel generators at key locations, for emergency use. (Yes, power plants DO lose power. Sometimes that's why you do, although usually in an outage the plant is still running, just "disconnected" from the broken grid ;) ). Our procedure there was to run them monthly. Under full load (built in load bank.) Of course, those were mission critical.

My home unit gets run "about" once a month, but not at full load - I just plug in a 1500 watt space heater, a bit less than 1/4 load on ours, but sufficient for the task.

Thanks much for the small engine tips to keep them running. :)
I've got an old rototiller ( MTD Briggs and Stratton 5HP) I've been using for years and it's a real pain to start up in the spring...BUT it always starts.
Gonna have to run it every month (instead of 3 times a year) and switch out the red Stabil for the blue!

To keep with the vaping theme.....vaping some unflavoured in temp mode @410F this morning.:)

Thanks All...

Stabil's good stuff. I used it for years until they released Star-Tron for general use. It holds up better over time, but again, Stabil (blue) treated me VERY well over the years. Zero complaints.
I’ll pass that on to Himself, who will probably roll his eyes and point to a row of bottles. Last I checked, the fresh water boat/seadoos in Alabama were still on stabil. I’m not privy to upkeep on the offshore one at home. The generator is natural gas with regular gas as a backup option.

So, a whole house generator should be test run monthly? We do quarterly

I have noticed the Avidvaper website still exists. Is it still trading? There are still the old style devices which appear to be available and still at the same expensive prices when they first were released and generated all the hype. HH357s were really hyped at the time and as expensive as buggery. $20 for a single Atomizer.

I bought a couple of bridgeless atomizers from them the other day.

Quarterly is probably ok, but there are a lot of variables. I suspect your average humidity isn't too much different from what we have here in the Pacific NW, and that's one of the key variables. The higher the average humidity, the more frequently you should run it. But as long as you're exercising it quarterly, with some load, and it's doing fine, no particular reason to change.

Ours is a "portable" so no enclosure. Your whole house unit is probably in a sound deadening box, so somewhat more protected. (But a monthly look-see without running might be good, looking for mouse traces. They can be rough on wiring!)

Humidity hangs 90%+ most of the year. We have squirrels, but not really small burrowing rodents because of the ground water table (little suckers don’t have gills ). It does have its own “doghouse” as the kids used to call it. Those suckers are LOUD, even enclosed. With only above ground lines, most everyone has some size/type of generator in my area. We were without power after a tropical storm for 4 weeks because a tree knocked a power pole with the transformer into my neighbors pool :(. I have enough batteries in rotation to make RTD jealous just for that reason. I can do without a lot , except a/c and a continuous supply of full batteries for my mods!

At $13 a pop USD? They are steep in the current market. You would think the price would have come down since 2011.

They were dang good bridgeless attys. Both the 306 and 510s had great flavour and draw.

    "Use it, don't lose it."

Right on Brother …. You are very knowledgeable about taking care of gas-powered generators. But more than knowledge, you actually take care of your generator (you perform the needed actions) … I always knew what I "should" do concerning prior generators that I have owned, but DPL, you know me well enough to know that my procrastination got in the way  … I failed to perform the needed actions.... But the good news is that with this new generator, I REFUSE to let that happen again.... DPL is also correct about using the petcock valve. Very important as you don't want the fuel sitting in your carb and gumming it up with junk.

I'll admit it, N.Mel. I don't eat those either.

I will make you an honorary Southern boy, just for that!
FYI... the carbon fiber should be in by the time I get back to NOLA. I’ll attempt the dagger’s door redecorating next week when Himself isn’t underfoot.

Teehee <blush>. THAT'S what the kids are calling it now? ;)

Dunno about Avid's biz at this point. It's been a long time since we've visited, but yes, their attIEs were mega expensive, even back then!!!

And if the atty was costly what might we say about the tanks?

Anyone remember the AMP tank?

    doctors need doctors

Doctors need doctors not because they suck. They are just totally connected to themselves, so they don't do good diagnostics. Therapists also need therapists. I am proud to report that I never ONCE tried to therapized anyone connected to me, I just found a good referral.

Frankly, to find success in my endeavors I need a brain that is not attached too my issues,. Said brain always appears to be SO MUCH smarter than me (with a few notable exceptions that were just bad luck.)

Also, if you can prescribe for yourself fentanyl patch/Adderall/opiates/MMJ the list goes on, becomes SO much easier.

You should actually be proud of the profession for doing something smart.

    Um...

You sure did read a lot into a very simple statement there, Anna. Doctors DO need doctors.

Read it how you must, but the fact remains intact. :2c:

Additionally, maybe I should have stated that it wasn't intended to be any type of "knock" on the profession (sometimes I'm guilty of thinking people can read my mind). It was NOT a knock...
