My personal preference has long been bottom AF RTAs. Recently I bought an Asmodus Thor Stabwood mod and, because of the way the tank screws onto the mod, a recessed well of sorts, decided a top AF RTA made the most sense. Gold is a great match for the Thor, so after a search, I decided on the Dead Rabbit RTA. Also, because the Thor uses a single battery, I wanted a single coil RTA. I am quite happy with the Dead Rabbit RTA. It was a PITA to wick properly with a single coil, but I persisted. :) I didn't make a huge coil for it, just a 3mm 6 wrap stainless steel Clapton. The key is long, fluffy tails that wrap around and then just cover the wicking holes. It took some time to get that down but was worth it. The flavor is great and it is the perfect RTA for my Thor. Is there a better option out there? Probably there is and I will keep looking. For now, this is rarely out of my hand. The Dead Rabbit RTA is beautiful - reminds me a bit of the Dot Mod Petri in looks.

OBS Engine MTL

This is tiny compared to the Ammit I wrote about last week. They're the same diameter, but the Engine is a mere 43 mm tall - including the drip tip and 510. Where the Ammit holds 4 ml, this wee beasty holds 2 ml. It also has a smaller, thinner, quarter-turn top cap and bigger fill ports.

The deck on this is pretty typical for a single coil... two posts with screws on top to trap the wire. No post holes here. But, there are notches to bend the wire back into to avoid the tails shorting out in the chimney. Note that the air on this comes.from one tiny hole under the coil only rather than three (bottom and sides) like the Ammit.

The wicking channels are the same though.

It will easily handle a 3 mm coil with the cotton brushed out, our a 2.5 mm coil without too much cotton combing.

To be honest, I wish I had gotten a little closer to the air with this build...

Building is really easy though. Just one tip... install one leg and tighten the screw down, then - with the screw on the opposite side loosened up a bit - slide the other leg over the post and under the screw. Make sure you end the leg back into the slot to clip. Even the tightest of cuts using my wire nippers left enough of a leg to cause it to short out... Straighten the coil after tightening, and you're good to go... well, after wicking and priming LOL.

As with most all modern top air tanks, this one channels the air through a double walled chimney...

The air comes in one both sides through one of three tiny holes. At a guess, I'd say they were 0.8mm, 1.5mm and 2mm. Since I bought a black tank, it ain't easy to photograph the air holes, but...

All the disclaimers I wrote about the Ammit apply here... I'm not a dedicated MTL vaper and yada-yada blah blahzitty blah...

That said, this is smoother than the Ammit, and I think I like it a bit more. On the other hand, it holds half the e-liquid. On the other other hand, the Engine MTL is easier to fill.

Long and short: if you want capacity, get the Ammit. If you want a slightly smoother vape, get the Engine. If you want variety, get one of each :) I honestly don't think you can go Terribly wrong with either.

Consider a dedicated single coil RTA like the Serpent Elevate or QP Designs Juggerknot Mini. The difference is quite noticeable. Other single coilers include the Vapefly Horus, the Kaees Solomon 3 and Solomon 3, and the Advken CP-TF. I just finished reviewing the second of 2 single coil MTL tanks, but they are dedicated MTL to be sure...

Color was important to me in choosing an RTA for this mod. The Serpent Elevate isn't really gold, it is more of a cream color. Also, tank capacity is a big deal to me - I am used to the GeekVape Creed, so 4mls is about as low as I am willing to go. I will check out the others you mentioned. Mainly I posted about the Dead Rabbit RTA to let people know that it is possible to get good flavor using it as a single coil - it just isn't easy. :D

Serpent Elevate is good for "Restricted-lung-hit" type of vaping (as stated by the designer himself). IMO, it is only good at that!

Its high raise deck means you will face burning lips if you use high wattage and big airflow - try a lengthy draw, you will be stroke...

In my case, when I use it with one of my creamy e-juice, I face intolerable spit back problem.

Not my experience at all. I prefer a long, slow draw, and that's what I am able to get with a properly built and wicked Serpent Elevate.

Getting proper built and wick with Serpent Elevate is easy... the problem is I cannot get a pleasurable vaping experience... particularly with big airflow.

Imagine I only run the tank with 30watt (plain Khantal coil) under power mode, I believe it will cook my lips if I run it say at 450F TC...

Note: I use drip tip made with Ultem, so the drip tip material does not contribute to the too hot matter.

safe distance from a black hole
I am curious, what size, type and material of coil are you using? Have you had spit back problem?
Right now I have a SS fused clapton 24ga*2 + 32ga at 0.12ohm. Generally though I have a SS fused clapton 30ga x 2 =38ga at 0.55ohm, 25 -35w, or a simple ss 28ga at around 14w. Regardless of build I generally vape around 180 to 200c.

Thanks for doing this mega top airflow RTA review Shawn. A lot of great information here that has probably saved me from buying several of these attys, although that is balanced with purchasing a few that weren't on my radar. I'm currently running the Zeus X in single coil mode and am very happy with it, but I'm waiting for you to finish the attys on the scheduled and will try a couple more after you finish. Great thread for me since I'm only interested in top airflow RTAs at the moment because I hate leaking vape equipment and these attys pretty much eliminate that irritation.

Besides saving me from uninformed buying decisions, I have learned a lot of what to look for and what wouldn't work for me. The details you uncover are things I would typically not find out until after I purchased and found out didn't meet my needs. Great thread!

Update on the Expormizer. As I stated earlier, I got a tracking number. Now, it's in Limbo...

"Label Created, not yet in system:"

Makes me think Sourcemore might not be the way to go in the future. Of course, this almost ALWAYS happens when I preorder something... I end up getting it AFTER it's readily available everywhere else...

*sigh*

That's lame. It's not even like the video game industry where you pre-order and get a digital gun and wallpaper lol. I know others have said this, but I want to reiterate, thank you for doing this! It has been helpful and useful information, so thank you sir!
