So, a sorta bank shot to the coils.

OBS Engine 2

This is a dual coil banger that measures 24mm at the base, but widens to 26mm at the glass. It's 56mm tall, and holds 5ml of liquid.

If you've ever looked at an OBS Engine V1 or OBS Engine Nano, you'd be hard pressed to immediately spot any significant differences... Same style 510 drip tip, same raised platform airflow, same pop-up to fill method, same propeller logo on the barrel. On the surface, the differences are in the slight belling (24 to 26mm on the 2 vs 25mm on the 1), the lack of extra silver engraving on the 2, lack of internal cage on the 2, and resin vs delrin drip tip.

Inside, things are a lot different... The deck is a set of Ts with Philips screws, and bottom airflow.

As such, there's a learning curve to building this. The coils (which should likely not exceed 3mm for exotic or 3.5mm for round wire builds) have to be poked in and up over the airflow. Once in position, tighten the screws without letting the coils drop (I bent the leads out to kind of lock things in), then position the coils.

As usual, I made a 3mm ID 6 wrap SS316L fused Clapton (2x26/36) spaced build.

Although I did not take pictures of it, the barrel has slots for air to come down the sides and exit under the coils as well as tabs that index with notches in the deck to make aligning the base easy.

Wicking is simple once the coils are setup properly. Just tuck the tails into the provided slots (don't pack 'em, but do fill 'em).

This build, oddly, came out to 0.14Ω, but it's vaping great on the Ijoy Avenger in TC mode.

Honestly, this doesn't feel like a version 2 to me. It's a version 1.5-ish. I wish they had included a bubble glass and expanded airflow to the edge of the tank to accommodate an 810 drip tip. This would have also allowed for a little more air. As it is, the air is not much different than on the version 1.

That doesn't mean it's bad. In fact, it's good. The flavor is better than the version 1 and gone is the spitback that almost always accompanied the first few pulls after a fill, but it falls a step or two short of being great.

That Stainless/Ultem Lyra sounds like something I must have!
I thought I had a pic of the setup on my phone, but, alas, I cannot find it... It's a nice looking setup. I wish the Ultem on the mod were polished to match the tank... Or that the tank was media blasted to match the mod :)

I hate when they have a thin base and get wider on top.. what for? OBS1 doesn't do that, OBS2 does. OBS1 holds 5.5mils, OBS2 holds 5.0. So what are they doing with that widened chassis? make a bigger build deck?
The chamber had to be significantly larger to allow for the side Channel air flow.

Today, let's take a look at the Vapefly Horus RTA...
1536261310705247.jpg
This is a single coil, top air RTA that directs the air down the side of the chamber to come up under the coil.

The tank holds 4ml. That's a little less than I like to see, but single coil atties don't slurp it up as fast as dual coil units. I can live with it. It comes with a silicone plug that reduces the capacity to 2ml for TPD purposes. I ripped it out and tossed it.

The drip tip is the o-ringed 810 style popularized by tanks like the TFV8. Plenty of aftermarket tips available...

The deck is big enough for my standard 3.5 mm SS316L fused Clapton...
1536261312209229.jpg
1536261312406621.jpg
Installing the coil is very easy. Each post has a wide open slot with a little tab on the outside. Slide the coil into the slot, and tighten the flat-tip screws... The tab prevents the coil from slipping out of the slot.

This coil came out to 0.268Ω, but I bumped it up a bit... Not the tanks fault the mod wants to run cool.
1536261311612446.jpg
1536261311907835.jpg
The wicking slots on the sides of the deck are also big enough to handle 3.5mm of cotton if you comb it out a bit.
1536261311013956.jpg
There is a lot of air on this tank... Too much... I'm running the air at half. It's easy to judge where half is as there are 2 slots per side. Close off one, and go... At least, that's what I do.

Vapor production is quite nice for a single coil tank, and the flavor is very nice. I've got it in TC mode, SS, 50 watts, 440F.
1536273415525494.jpg
I think the tank looks very nice perched up on the Sigelei Top1... All matchy matchy black and gold. Some people may not like the inside cage. Although the innards of the tank are also black, I have no issues seeing the juice level.

So, good flavor, good vapor, adequate capacity, very easy deck, and not too hard on the eyes (IMO)... Or wallet... I picked it up for around $28. What's not to like?

So after a couple weeks, how are the Zeus and Zeus Dual holding up? Im finally going to replace my Cthulhu MTL with something (Im tired of almost 2 years of leaking) and narrowed it down to one of those two. Was originally going to get the Serpent SMM but it seems thats a 50/50 thing where half the people love it, the other half complained about leaking. I can get the Zeus a couple bucks cheaper, but should I just get the dual? Its gonna be a single coil, plain old regular Kanthal build about 18w or so. I love the Cthulhu wide open on the AF but man the leaking and other 'issues' it has are getting old!!

It occurred to me that I ought to mention the Cubis line of tanks.

I mean, they're top air, and there's an available RBA section.

Problem is, I can't stand it.

The deck is stupid small with impossible to use screws, and it's very prone to flooding.

There... It's been mentioned.
Now you've done it!
I tried to suppress the memory of that little monster with all my mental strength. Now I have to check my room again before going to sleep.

Holding up fine, but I'm not using them. They aren't shelved, mind you... I've just got more to test for this thread.

As to what might be a better replacement for the Cthulhu MTL? Lemme think on that...

Shinyitis got me, I ordered the Zeus Dual this morning. Still open to others though hehe. Cant wait til you get to the Intake. I just found that this morning, and it looked pretty awesome. Same size as my mod too (the Zeus is bigger), might have to pick that one up later. The reviews for both at ECiggity were the same 'Its the greatest RTA ever' so I just went with the Zeus first.

Taking a look at the Augvape x Mike Vapes Intake RTA. This is a single coil, 4.2ml RTA with tight airflow. The Intake is nicely machined and comes apart or goes together with ease.
1536689987331605.jpg
The deck has pipes. The pipes channel the air down under the deck and back up to the bottom of the coils. There are two posts with notched slots and fairly chunky Philips head screws.
1536689988542568.jpg
Installing the coil is a breeze... Drop it in, slide the leads into the slots, tighten the screws, straighten the coil. With a premade coil, this is a 3 minute process. I do worry that this deck will not do well with smaller guage round wires, though... I'll consider testing that out later. With my (nearly) standard build - SS316L Fused Clapton 26x2/36 5 wrap 3.5mm 0.26Ω - everything fits fine.
1536689989164323.jpg
1536689988852499.jpg
3mm - 4mm (depending on how this the wire is) should fit just fine, but 3.5mm wicks work great... 4mm would need to be thinned a bit, and 3mm might be a bit loose. Wicking is dead simple, too. Slide the wick through, and fold it down... Scissors will slide right under the deck for a really accurate trim. Brush lightly, tuck in, and prime.

Assemble and fill. The fill ports are under a quarter-turn topcap not unlike those found on the Zeus and Themis. Closer to the Zeus, as this tends to be tight.

It comes with a stubby little 810 drip tip. The kit also includes a 510 drip tip adapter, and a spare straight glass (2.5ml), a spare not-so-stubby 810 drip tip, a tri-tool, spare screws, and spare o-rings. In this case, as restricted as the air is, a 510 standard would have worked. I think the 810 is wasted, here.

Restricted or not, the air feels smooth, and the flavor is quite good. Vapor production is satisfactory... I find myself taking long, slow draws.
1536689987160608.jpg
I like it, but it'll likely not stay in the regular rotation... It's too restrictive for my tastes, but not MTL.
