What saddens me in this discussion is the statistics already gathered that as vaping has increased in underage middle schoolers, the smoking rate has dropped considerably. Cigarettes are illegal for minors, there shouldn't be any underage smokers.

It seems the minor children will be forced to continue to use traditional cigarettes at least until they are 18. That's a given in these FDA and the various state regulations.

That is just silly nonsense.. Forced? Forced how? Someone is forcing minor children to smoke? Where?

It is just as bad using children as an argument for vaping as it is against vaping.

I think the biggest thing is that this is one of the biggest forums on the internet dedicated to vaping. If you think for one second that people on the other side of the vaping argument don't see what goes on here you would be wrong. It just stems down to that even if it might be better for a kid to pick up vaping as apposed to cigarettes, we couldn't and shouldn't tell them to on here. As soon as we did it would be everywhere that the community wants kids to vape and our own words would be twisted on us. Personally I would rather kids don't do either. If you never smoked you shouldn't vape. Simple :D just my two cents~

bluecat, I'm not sure how it is in cincy but kids here are forced to smoke during their guns and whoring training. It's so sad. We must save the children.

A few years back, I caught my 13 year old brother with a pack of smokes that he got from some kid that had the nerve to come into my house and sell my brother the pack for a ridiculously steep price.

I brought it up to my parents and we had a talk with him about it. We didn't offer him any alternatives, we didn't care what excuses he had, we made sure he stopped. That other kid was never welcome in the house again either. My brother is 17 now and has been smoke-free.

Cigs and e-cigs are 18+. Vaping is already a controversial topic in the media and minors getting involved is no good. I don't want kids that have no grasp of consequences and developed logic to ruin it for me. All it takes to stay off of cigs is a little bit of discipline(ing).

Man things sure have changed in the Windy City. Last time I was in Chicago was in the 80's on a road trip with my college mates to watch the cubbies and redlegs play, also cause we knew some pretty little ladies in Chicago.

Save those kids because you know they will grow up one day and maybe... maybe become President.

It's alive and well in my household.

We've had many a cell phone, laptops, TV's and parked cars on lock-down over the years. Our oldest started attending college with her car parked in our driveway for a year and a bus pass in her hand due to getting caught drinking and driving at 18. Seven years later she says she hated us for that but it got her to start thinking right and making better decisions which she's now applying to her 4 kids.

Respect rolls downhill...Kudos to you as well Zahzoo!

Kids will be kids. Adults should be adults. Adults set the rules around vaping and we should do so without regard to those who may rebel. You don't make rules or laws to enable those who would otherwise break them. You make them for the greater good. Kids shouldn't be on ECF. If a kid wants to vape so badly then they'll have to break the law just like they do with drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. An adult buys kids vaping supplies where it's illegal should be treated just no differently than an adult who buys kids cigarettes or alcohol. Seems like a pretty short discussion.
I agree 100% -- Well said HauntedMyst. ;)

Am I missing something or is this a "no brainer"?

1. Products with Nic are legal for 18 and over.
2. ECF does not allow minors to join.
3. This "kid" is 11.

Bottom line, it doesn't matter when any of us started to smoke, whether our parents did or didn't know, "risk reduction for the children", "my children this or that"........there are laws and rules, both in and outside of this forum.

Begs the question: Is ECF a site that bypasses "parental control" systems?

i didn't start smoking til i was 23. my mom smoked and i thought it was nasty. i remember there was always a smoke cloud in the living room if she was in there. when i was a kid she used to make me go to the 7-11 to buy her cigarettes (this was in the 70s when kids could even fall off bikes without people freaking out). anywho i digress. so in college i was going out to clubs a lot with friends, most of whom smoked and i just picked it up. in some ways i feel stupider than someone who started smoking really young must feel. i mean i was an adult. i wish these ecigs were around in the early 90s.

I remember those days! That was back in the days when the only kids on a bike with a helmet on was the jolly "special" kid in your group. That was back when if you got into a car accident, you had to reach around and pray there was something you could hang on to because half the cars still didn't have seat belts and most of the ones that did were tucked into the seat! That was back in the day when there were 10 channels on your TV and you mom kicked you out of the house if you watched it too long. And that was back in the day when when if you acted acted up away from home, another parent would smack ya in the back of the head and yell at you as a precursor to the punishment you got when you got home. That was back in the day when there was no such thing as a "play date". Kids just walked outside played

I'm with you.....I started smoking late compared to most (26) and I absolutely HATED when my mom smoked around me. I stopped accepting a ride to school with her after she fired up a cig in the car and I went to school wreaking of smoke. I was constantly asked that morning if I had been smoking by students and teachers. Needless to say, I began walking after that incident.

Likewise, I began smoking socially (cloves) so it started out as just an occasional thing I did. A particularly stressful day at work led to it becoming a daily thing. So, don't feel bad about it. The way I see it, we've all had triggers in adulthood that led us to various vices. I'm just glad vaping allowed me to stop before I started having any serious health issues.

Live well, Love hard, Laugh often & Vape on!

lol it started with cloves for me too. omg i used to think they smelled soooo good. i'd have a clove occasionally while out partying. bit i remember one day i smoked two cloves back to back and they made me so nauseous i had to go lay down for awhile. that experience totally turned me off to them. but i think after that is when i started bumming my friends regular cigarettes when out n about, then eventually buying my own pack, and of course the rest is history. :/
