Anybody else find TPA Blueberry Extra a bit on the harsh side? It seems anytime I use it in a recipe the juice has one hell of a throat hit. One time one of my buddies tried it (rest in peace John) and he reeled back and went "Woah! What mg is that, 30?"... it was 16mg (It tested to verify). I've found myself using TPA Blueberry Candy (PG) instead... but I find I have to use nearly double the amount to get the same level of "bueberry-ness".

I don't ever use TPA Blueberry Extra at more than 8% in a recipe, but find it a bit harsh even as low as 4%.

Thoughts?

TFA is also making Blueberry Wild now. It's supposed to taste like a real blueberry (not candy) and is also supposed to be weaker than the extra from what I hear. I haven't tried it yet but plan on getting some to mix with my extra for a cheesecake recipe I'm planning to make. It also goes pretty good with Belgian Waffle (TFA). I don't get the harsh note from the extra but as they say, tastes vary. By the way I bought mine from WL if that matters.

Cheers,
Steve

Yeah, I heard about the new one. I want a strong blueberry though, which is why I want to use the extra, but I always get that harsh note, and it's not just me. Maybe I need to cut back and let it steep longer before I judge the flavor. And I usually pick my stuff up from WL too (though it's the same if I get it direct from TPA)... and I do mean pick it up, they're practically right down the street from me haha! Having to use Blueberry Candy at such a high % doesn't leave a whole lot of room for adding other flavors (though I do quite enjoy the flavor itself if I use enough of it).

Never experienced the harshness of Blueberry extra, I really like it. I like strong flavors though. When you say harsh I think throat hit. Do you mean overwhelming?

No, I mean harshness. If I recall that flavor was heavier on the blueberry than I normally use it. Problem is I can't handle a just blueberry juice... but I love it in a mix. Maybe I'll have to just suck it up and do a few just blueberry juices and to get to the bottom of this.

To me, Blueberry Extra is actually a "Soft" flavor. I've used it at 8-10% w/ 50/50, usually by itself.

So not harsh at all to me, I even have that "Softness" noted in my flavor testing notes, so it's odd to hear it mentioned as being harsh. Maybe there is alc in it, or something else, causing that feeling for you?

I've also found it gets even softer the longer it steeps too, how long have you steeped it before vaping?

It doesn't need that to be soft to me, I think it's good to go in a day or two, just curious if you were steeping and how long.

I'm gonna do some tests... just didn't want to waste the time and resources if this thread produced the "yeah man, it's a bit harsh" kind of response... seems I'm getting just the opposite, so it's worth testing to find the culprit... Like I've said I don't really like a just blueberry juice, so it might be a combination that's causing it.

Every flavor will be different for each individual.

I have vaped many juice with flavors that made my cough like I was about to die. Friends or others around me can vape it like it was pure air since it affects them differently. I have problems with just Strawberry or Banana yet I can vape Strawberry Banana. Sometimes mixing certain flavors just takes away the harshness as does a long steep.

Out of all the blueberry's we've tried, we've found that FA's Bilberry is best, most "spot on" fresh blueberry taste :)

One of these days I'll have to try flavour art... it's just so tough to move on to a different flavoring company when you have wholesale status at TPA and can get massive quantities of flavoring for such phenomenal prices;)

A few drops a smooth may help take the edge off. Maybe

Good call... how could I forget about smooth lol.
