I luv it all. & I like variety.
but MTL will always be my favorite.

throat hit is king.
I genuinely dislike an inhale I can't feel.
so whether i'm chucking enough cloud to make my coworkers die laughing, or squonking a low res on a mech, I really just wanna feel it. that satisfying oooph. which really, I can get either way. DTL has that light but full feeling TH, esp on exhale, even with 3mg juice, (esp at high wattage) which is ok with me. but I enjoy tight airflow, buildup, and that "SHUH" to the back of my throat so much. nothing beats a clicky button, quiet inhale, and that SHUH, FFFFFFFFF. :p
I generally prefer a vape that doesn't have a lot of TH. Aside from the TH, an MTL setup just feels like inhaling air with a bit of flavor, but I find there's never enough flavor nor flavor depth nor richness in MTL, no "punch", so, for me, flavor without big enough clouds is simply not possible, and, the clouds don't necessarily have to be the biggest of the big, but a dense, saturated vapor with only some fairly modest amount of restriction is still the only way. A lot of vapers keep assuming I'm more of a cloud chasing kind of guy. The irony is in the fact that any chef who doesn't know that the amount, the thickness, the temperature, and the texture feel of the sauce are equally as paramount as the actual flavor, isn't going to make much of a career in any famous restaurant. So, to me, personally, MTL compares to DTL like an ersatz product compares to the real thing. Sorry I did it on purpose. :p

If sucking down those clouds are the only way to stop from smoking it's still a better option, but what is weird is people showing it off like it's something to be proud of. One example is avatars of clouds blocking their face, that to me basically says that they think it's a cool thing, like it's a competition and that part of it is just strange to me..I was in a vape shop yesterday looking for a pod system for my wife and the worker in there was helping us at the same time was sucking so hard and so loud on this mod that I literally couldn't hear what she was saying, then as she blew it out, I couldn't see her. She had a hard time breathing and talking because she was basically hyperventilating herself. She had to be doing it to say, "hey look at my massive clouds bro" because she surely didn't need to do that for a few minutes we were there...in those examples, I just don't get it and can only surmise that they actually think it's good for them. I'm all for vaping anyway it's done, I just don't get the proud thing of it...

I will both agree and disagree with you - I definitely don't see why anyone would want to "show off" with their vaping, such as what you described at your local vape shop. I also don't really get the pics with clouds blocking their face, however, I would be lying if I didn't say I was somewhat proud of vaping - it got me away from cigarettes and I have every reason to believe that, while it's not a completely healthy habit - it is MUCH healthier than the one and a half to two packs a day I was inhaling for close to two decades.

A lot of people also turn vaping into a hobby and become very passionate about it - no different than a photographer that likes to flaunt all of their equipment and post their pictures everywhere, or a guitarist who likes drooling over the latest equipment, talking about music non-stop, and sharing their music with the world. If someone wants to use vaping as a tool to quit nicotine use completely and it never becomes an obsession or a hobby to them, that's great - but some people fall in love with it and have every reason to be proud of the fact that they are no longer smoking - even if they are still using nicotine.

I'm not a huge cloud kind of vapor. Even though I am now fully DTL vaping I still vape for flavor and nicotine. I take pretty small puffs off my .15 and .25 and .5 ohm tanks. I find it very satisfying. Once in while I'll take a big lung full just 'cause I can.

My son vapes the huge clouds. Watching him take huge sucks off his vape makes my throat hurt.

For me it was the search for the realistic cig feel that made me progress from MTL to DTL. To be honest MTL was always so frustrating never getting quite enough satisfaction and taste/TH. I'm now a full blown typhoon but its not to look cool and the clouds can be dangerous when driving too :D

I definitely understand because I'm also proud. I feel it's a great accomplishment to switch because it is , no doubt, a much safer alternative . I love helping people and trying to convert smokers which is an awesome feeling. I guess I'm proud when I'm by myself or here amongst other vapors, but when I'm in public or around people that don't smoke or vape, I feel like I'm still doing something that's not good for me and I'm kind of discreet . I'm also proud of my vaping devices, as some are real works of art and have come a long way since I started. So absolutely I'm proud I quit smoking and I know I will never smoke again , which is awesome, but I guess I'm not proud enough to know deep down inside I shouldn't be doing it at all, so I personally do it in a way that I feel is a bit less remindfull in terms of a visual thing...like small clouds, small devices, and small amounts of juice used....It honestly doesn't bother me how each and every person has to vape to stay off smokes, it's the competition of clouds and power thing to of show off that I just find a little strange... I really responded to all this from a post above that read , " who wouldn't want large , white, big, clouds coming out of their mouths" . I just don't feel that should be something that people strive for. It's like what's next, having a backpack that allows you to constantly breath in big massive clouds on every breath? Like in the future there will be a good percentage of people that only breath in vapor. I'm weird, sorry

It's true, with rewarding density it certainly should be satisfying to most of us. There's nothing like a slow full bodied exhale though, properly savored, to take it to a whole nother level. Done right you can break a tootie in a second or blossom billowy bliss with a bit more. Why I love the versatility of mechanicals. Blessed art thou with an understanding of amps to wetted contact.

Good luck. :D

I just want everyone to vape how they are happy, however that is. I love the variety in vaping and seeing all it has to offer. I personally doubt that DL is ever going to be for me, I just really don't quite have the lung capacity to enjoy very low DL, I kind of think MTL (although I do vape less restricted than I used to) is probably going to remain my happy place at this point.

LOL the only times I get jealous of the DL crowd is when I over mix and I'm like, "I could go through this 100 ml of juice so much FASTER) although I've learned at this point to restrict myself to 20 ml of new mixes, that way I get more variety faster.

I hear that Anna! I just mixed 3 120ml batches as I was switching back to MTL. Don't know WHAT I was thinking. Now I'm vaping just over 1ml a day?:rolleyes:

For another perspective on the "clouds" issue...

Many of you know that I worked for a vape shop back in 2014. Our store would often have "parties" which might include contests for free vape gear and e-liquid, free food and pop, and cloud chasing contests. Our store was pretty spaceous when compared to the typical vape shop and the parties would draw vapers from all over Cincinnati.

Below pic shows just half of the store. The other half behind the camera had a lounge area with couches, a large screen tv, and some tables/chairs. To the far left, outside the store, you can see our store manager grilling chicken and burgers before the party gets into full swing. It would soon become shoulder to shoulder vapers in and outside the store either eating, drinking, or vaping. One of the local radio stations often had a table outside broadcasting live and giving out free disposable e-cigs. Good times.

Although I loved the social aspect of the parties, I have to admit that I often dreaded working them. The parties were a good idea by management to bring the vaping community together and helped generate some extra business for the store. However, the vapor generated from nearly a hundred vapers in an enclosed area was overwhelming to me. Sometimes I could hardly see the person across from the vape bar the vapor was so dense. The store had an air ventilation system, but all of those vapors blowing clouds overwhelmed it and made it hard to breathe. I had to frequently step outside the store to get a breath of fresh air.

I've always had some issues with the cloud chasing "thing". Maybe because I vaped to get off and stay off of cigarettes when other methods that I had tried failed. Would that be called being a purist? I could never get my head around the idea of vaping recreationally just to make humongous vapor clouds to impress my buddies or that vaping could be considered a competitive sport. Maybe I'm just an old fart who is set in his ways.

I think we are pretty close to being in complete agreement! I've never understood the cloud competitions, or even the vape tricks - to me it just draws the wrong kind of attention to vaping. I do vape on sub-ohm RDAs around 55w and it does produce a decent amount of vapor, but when I'm in public, I try to vape in isolated areas or not take huge drags off of my mod. I think common courtesy is important, even when around other vapers and/or smokers.

Lastly, I think we are all a little weird in our own ways and that is definitely NOT something you should apologize to me for! :toast:

I guess in a way those social gatherings are a good way for people to come together but I definitely see your point...I think when it comes down to it, it's the "where are we going with this" that gets me weirded out...in just a few years we went from hardly no vapor to major clouds, so what's it going to be like in 5 years from now? I constantly think of zombie vapors being around

Many people have brought this up before. In the below video, PBusardo talks about the amount of smoke a cigarette makes and then compares that with a drag from his mod to show the amount of vapor it makes. He questions whether it is really necessary to make so much vapor when we were quite satisfied with the amount of smoke a cigarette made.

I've said it before, but the reason I started the whole DL, lots of vapor style of vaping is because the MTL options were being choked out by the DL/sub-ohm options - not just devices either - a lot of juice companies were offering juices in lower nicotine concentrations that weren't all that suitable for MTL - especially for those trying to kick the habit of smoking cigarettes. I haven't been paying quite as much attention to the industry lately as I used to, but it seems to me that MTL is making a comeback with all of the pod devices, nicotine salts, and new MTL specific delivery systems. It's a great thing - unless you ask my wallet (or my wife).

Never been to a show or gathering that was so vaped up you couldn't breathe. But come to think of it there were a couple in '14 at the SVL in Ft. Lauderdale that things got so thick the eyes glazed, or so it seemed. The few times the doors had to be cleared. Pity that it's gone along with COV in Boca. SFV was always a fun meet at Grady's. Now it's just a camp on a domain (pics all gone) :(

Good luck. :)

Great thread people! I'm not a cloud chaser by any means. Flavor over clouds. But I do prefer that heavy feeling. I am careful in public, especially not to chuck at or around people. Every once in awhile, I need to inhale massively and blow out a huge cloud. Like when I'm stressed or something like that. It just goes along with my addictive behavior. Being a recovering alcoholic, I also still desire that need to be "full" and sometimes a huge cloud satisfies that. I am certainly not judgemental of people who chase the clouds, but yea, I don't get it either.

Yep, there are times when excess is wretched and its enjoyment, well…creative. But then it's amusing too when sipping through a coffee stirrer seems to satisfy others. It's fun to find the center of that universe. Even more so, shared with others.

Good luck. :)

The diversity of our preferences and pursuit of the vape is inversely proportional to our enjoyment of that damned cigarette. If we hated it, we're apt to just be grateful we kicked it and about anything that gets us over first will do the trick. If we loved it, we're likely to be forever in pursuit of duplicating and expanding upon the experience in any and every way. It's not a hobby, it's devotion to something that fulfills us.

I loved tobacco, always enjoyed it and the social aspects of participation. Never felt I was fixated but for the psychological impact of being reminded constantly that I was an anti-social stupid addict. Still were it not for my health (unrelated) and the politics, I'd prolly still be at it. It's unfortunate what regulation has done to the industry, it's products and to us as people.

I celebrate your vaping exuberance, be it large or small. Cheers!

Good luck. :)
