I had some freetime and tried it out today.
Everything was fine, lit right up

But I had issues with the ekowool wick. The 1.5mm I ordered from okcvapes just wont work. Even after stretching and wrapping with teflon, it is still bigger than 2mm. (they dont even have the ekowool model numbers listed). And it isnt hollow, it seems to have silica in the middle
Am I better off ordering from lightningvapes and getting the SC-2 (completely hollow maybe compress more), SCN 1.5 (silica core, what I may already have), or SCN(C) 1.5 (cotton cored), or some other number I didnt list?
Or someone have an exact link to what I need?

I finally got around to doing this. Quite proud of the results. :)

I want to thank Joe for a few bits of info that I found crucial, namely the number of wraps to ohms, and the 1/16 drill bit. The "thread seal tape" worked perfect for threading the silica. The hardest part is pressing the silicon plug back into the bottom, a straightened paper clip worked, but I would like to find something that doesn't require a fight.

6 wraps/32 gauge with Silica wicks. I don't have an adapter to check the ohms, but it's definitely close to 3.0-3.2 ohm coils, I will try with less wraps next build. :toast:

Sorry Halo, I have 30 coils to rebuild, don't think I will be spending $12.50 on a 5-pack anymore.

Woohoo!!! I'm proud of you Oreo ;) So Greenleaf was it as hard as it sounds or is it totally worth it. I've bought all the stuff to do this but I just wanted to be prepared incase the FDA came down hard on us, I still just buy the coils. :D

Oreo, LOL!!

Not only is it easy, it gives you with a sense of accomplishment, plus you get to pick your ohms. The money savings are nice too. With the DIY stuff I will be doing and making my own coils, being ahead of regulations is a wise move imo.

If I can find a "punch" tool (or something hollow with the same diameter as the bottom silicone plug), this can be done much quicker.

This is cool. Seeing youse guys succeed in something that seemed undo-able months ago has given me inspiration. I have the kanthal, the wick, and the tools. And my trusty multimeter.

Question: are you guys marking which coil head you've rebuilt? I found it real easy to grind a vertical line into the fat part of the coil head, near the bottom. It turns bronze colored, and real easy to see in the tank. Now I got to devise a marking system.

But way to go! Does it vape as well as a new bought coil?

For which part of the build?

Compressing the coils after the wraps yes, should work as well as needle nose pliers. For pressing the plug back into the bottom, not sure if those would help.

Yes I was wondering for pressing the plug back into the bottom. If you find something that makes it easier let us know. :)

I keep them stored in the plastic tray with the foil backing that the stock 5-coils come shipped in and separate different ohm's that way.

I have only rebuilt a higher ohm coil thus far, it is performing exactly like the stock coils I am used to. :)

I'll have to video the vape from my triton; it's insane. I'm actually considering entering one of those vape cloud contests, with it. HAHA.

After some breaking in, this coil is performing even better than a couple hours ago. Definitely closer to a 2.6ohm based on heat and vapor. I will pickup an adapter to check the ohms and report back. Also looking for a small socket to aid in pressing in the bottom plug.

Are you set on wanting Ekowool?

If it's not hollow it won't compress when twisted in order to feed in through the coil. You could go smaller.

Or I can PM you the cheap twisted 2mm silica I bought if you'd like.

I accidentally cracked a Triton tank, so i took the stem out, cut off all the plastic tank material, and use this for testing. A regular mulitmeter then to check resistance, one probe stuck in the bottom and one touching the stem. Works great.

Would this not work without a tank? One probe in the bottom, one on the side.

It does work without the tank stem and base, I just find it easier to do with, less chances of it sliding around on me. Plus the added benifit it is a great thing to use for pulse heating your coil and dry burning as you need.

I ordered 25' of 2mm silica ive been using for the main wick, and ive bought the sc-2 (hollow) and had the 1.5 which dont work inside the coil, so Ive been using them as the top/feeder wicks.
Once i get a decent multimeter to replace my shoddy harbor freight one, I may experiment with slightly larger coils to make use of the ekowool. Got my eyes set on either a Klein or Milwaukee branded one. Huzzah for being able to write off all tool purchases come tax time :D
