That's funny, I actually ordered those because they came shipped on the bobbins! The little things drive me crazy.

The rest of the OCD tendencies show in the stripped off tank base (if you chop it down the glue at the base makes it easy to peel off the remainder of the tank). This makes it so much easier to build on and watch how your coil is working and make minor adjustments. I'm actually wiping the rest of the glue off with iso right now. :p

I actually have a stripped down tank that I use for dry burning my coils and holding it under the water to wash off the gunk. :D

Mine isn't stripped as lovely as yours is. I was afraid of cutting myself because i used a knife to cut the main portion of the tank off so it's good to know the rest will be easier. :D

I used the same wire snipers as the ones to chop up the tank and snip the kanthal, no scissors or knife. Standard pliers to pull off the pieces and compress the coil, and a straightened paper clip for coil adjustment. :D

Vapers are starting to multiply at my place of employment. Most, if not all, other than myself are staying local and getting the Kanger Evod kits. So I rebuilt a coil for one of them. They were very impressed with it, over what it was originally. I think I'm going to start rebuilding coils on the side, for a small fee of course. Hopefully, the local shops won't hate me too much, if I'm taking business away from them.

Hey this is a great post Joe! I have some questions as i am new to rebuilding maybe you or others could help out.

1. I have the Triton 650mah and when i was trying to rebuild the coils with 32 ga kanthal and silica ( i boiled the silica and blue flamed it then used flame on the kanthal) my dmm readings come out 2.8 but when i put everything together with Tribeca. i get an awful taste. This is the second coil i made that did this. i am unsure what i am doing wrong. after a couple fires i dump it out into the (1/3 filled bottle)

2. I also noticed that the bottle i have dumped the juice back in tastes funny when i used prepackaged coils now. Is this my bad? (i think so lol but want to check)

3. Those grommets keep tearing on the side, are they safe to reuse if they are not completely broken?

I have a very difficult time trimming the legs. i've had an issue with some being visible.

i understand that as being new to rebuilds there is a learning curve and i'm willing to keep trying. Also just to check if there was a short, will the battery just not operate? what happens? Does this mess up the battery? Just curious as i believe the Tritons have a protector right?

Thanks guys and i hope i posted this in the right place

1. Try a different cleaning regiment for the silica or don't clean it at all, see if that helps the flavor. Are you dousing it in butane?

2. Yes, you're re-vaping tainted juice lol.

3. If they aren't too torn I say yes, one of mine is still working fine.

The leg that goes through the grommet is easier to trim lower before installing the bottom metal pin. Try nail clippers.

Yes, if there's a short the light blinks fast 4 times and it will not fire on, no worries.

With what you ask about the crommets, the leg trim and such... I almost wonder if the burnt taste isnt because you have a partial short.. causing a hot spot someowhere. What is the Ohm reading of the coil, if you take it when it screwed into the tank?

Awesome and thanks for the info!

1. i am not dousing it in butane just a quick blue flame run through about twice.

2. I figured =) thanks

3. Great!

Ah i see with the grommet i'll have to try that.

To answer your question Fallen I have not tried to read it while in the tank. Only while i have finished assembling the coil and have slid the wick in. The om reading i had for both coils i built was 2.8. Do you recommend i take a reading in the tank to see? i've got one full and the others are drying right now so i'll get back to you tonight with my reading (i still have the coils i built just tossed to the side) I too am thinking there has to be a partial. I've followed the directions to a T. even verifying my MM was working. i think im messing up the final steps some where. hopefully i'll figure it out

Thanks for being gentle on the noob =)

Okay so i did as Fallen suggested (i didnt think to do this earlier) and the reading thru the tank was .7 so you think i have a partial somewhere? i really dont think i'm getting those legs clipped right at the end. could this be my issue (again pardon the noobness. i have a basic understanding of this stuff but i work on computers so i thought i'd give it a go. plus it is my only tank rig right now)

It all depends on the build. What does your meter read, when you touch just the leads together? Subtract that number from your coil resistance and that's a more real number. Also, what type and gauge wire? How big are your coils? How many coils? I built a 7/6 coil out of 34gauge and that gave me 1.67ohms. Perfect for my all day vape. I opened up the holes in the battery also, to match the holes in the tank.

sorry i should of said that. it originally read 3.0 the leads read 2 (sub'd it) so i got 2.8. i am using a quilters needle to wrap. its close to a 1/16 size drill bit but not quite. i will look around for a spare one in my husbands toolbox as i think that might help. The type is Kanthal AWG 32 gauge at 7/6 wraps. my target range for these should be 2.4-2.8 as i seem to like those ranges the best for vaping my current liquid selections

You get 2.8 when you test the coil? or the coil assembly?

but yes.. if you are getting 0.7 ohm reading when you test the tank.. you have a "short" the coil (most likely the coil leg that you slid down through the gromet is touching the outer coil assembly wall.

for future reference... always test the resistance of your coil 3 times... at least till you get the rhythm down. First after you wrap it, 2nd after you install it in the coil assembly, and 3rd after you put the whole assembly on the stem in the tank.

The first step is just to save you headache, the 2nd one is the important one, and the 3rd one will tell you if you have a silly "pinch" that happens when you compress everything down.
