I was watching True Detective today which had this scene about ecigs:

Of course I don't agree with his views and thought what were the producers motivation behind this scene? Are they appeasing tobacco companies? I did it find it funny though and I'm a huge fan of the show

Theres another scene later on where another character takes a dig at her for her e-cig. I see it as the show reflectiing on the negative attitudes towards vaping without actually taking a stand either way.

That actor is like 30 max. That is NOT old.

30? He's 40 in real life and he's got gray hair in his mustache, and he's playing a burned out cop. I'm assuming they're going for mid to late 40s, not 30. If anyone's in that kind of condition at 30, they should really start making better decisions with their life.

I also wondered what exactly the motivation was behind the ecig comments. Was it simply a poor attempt at being relevant, was it an inside joke meant for someone who works on the show and vapes, or was it a jab at the industry? I believe there is almost always a political reason behind little jabs like that, they aren't harmless. However, I find it odd since I am from LA and a lot of people in the industry smoke....and a lot of people also now vape.
