He's been trying for years and nothing has worked. He also lost his job ATM and can't afford to try vaping even. The longest he's quit temporarily was 2 months than a break up with girlfriend or something and its us clubbing till he settles down again which means alot of partying.

Well then he sounds like a likely recruit... I mean addition to our family! You could just try a eGo style variable-voltage with a EVOD or ProTank mini for starters and see if he digs it or if it's just *meh*. Of course, if he doesn't really like it (and I can't imagine what's not to like) you get some nice back-up gear! Susan W has some solid advice there!

They are not that giant. The Sigelei Zmax Telescopics are 100mm long x 23mm wide at smallest with a 18350 battery. It telescopes to 128mm long with a big 18650 battery. Also fits two other battery sizes in between. The batteries are removable. The atomizing device you put on top adds to length. The Sigelei I pictured has an 18500 battery inside that lasts me 6-7 hours. It fits in my jeans pocket.

The Innokin SVD is a great device, and very affordable at fasttech (do reserve a lot of time for shipping though, two weeks if you're lucky and more than a month if you're unlucky). The Innokin MVP v2 is supposed to be really good as well, but I've never owned one. I've really liked evod clearomizers, quite good clones can be bought from fasttech (as well as the rgm2 glass clearomizers). Yaeliq.com has great juices. From Israel, but ok shipping times and $10 worldwide shipping, free if you buy $90 worth of juices). Affordable as well, $18 for 100ml bottles and 18ml for 5 x11ml sample packs.

That's correct. These are VV or VV/VW rigs and are pretty sophisticated. The atomizing device that fits on top is purchased separately unless provided as part of a "kit" deal. Lots of different atomizer types and sizes to pick from: Cartos, Carto tanks, Clearos, RBAs, etc.

You see I spend a lot of money on a lot of unnecessary things like my extreme car hobby, toys, and expensive exercise equipment I wish I had more time to use. Since I've been injured for most of this year (ruptured disks and nerve damage)I've had a lot of time to read, think and appreciate the simple things in life and I want to start the new year by helping others first.
Looks like I have alot of reading to do. I still don't understand the cartomizers and tanks vs the clearomizers and the digital features on the PVs yet. But I've gotta buy something soon lol.

My Sigelei with the fairly large carto tank and drip tip measures 176mm with the 18500 battery, or just under 7". Still fits a jeans pocket. Provaris are shorter but VV only.

I think an easier set-up would be good to start with like an ego, or the mvp2 you mentioned before. Honestly, if I can set my voltage to the wattage I have set on the mvp2, it's basically the same. But if you get an mvp2 the battery will be much larger, and has some nifty features for when/if you progress into vaping. It has a resistance checker, which could come in handy, and even if you decide to not vape it has a usb out option where you can charge your phone with it.

101vape has them for 40$ I believe, or at least they did. I'd think that they can ship them to canada, the battery is housed in the device and is non-removable. And that I think is another plus for a beginner, you don't have to worry about what mah/drain the battery has. Or what a good charger for lithium batteries is. The mvp2 should come with an iclear 30 with each kit, which is an ok atomizer. I find that mine leaks out the bottom a little more than I'd like.

I started out with a kanger t2 top coil, and I thought it was amazing. I ordered a few evods after that and the difference between top and bottom coil seemed like night and day. Both were good.

Now I'm on to rba's and rda's. I'm just saying that an ego got me in the door, it was a cheap buy-in, relatively. But it made me think hey, this could actually work.

With these VV or VV/VW devices you should choose IMR batteries. AW is great (the red, non protected AW IMR). Efest is fine for most users. I use both.

Ok. Messiah; I feel your pain.

Well you cant go wrong buy a few chargers; or 10. Now that the 510 seems to be the standard you might as well buy a few 510 chargers.

Batteries; now theres a somewhat of a conundrum; are you getting 510 batteries like most people or are you getting 'mods' that take the more standard 18xxx rechargeable batteries that go in things like a provari.................

The ZMAX V5 is a good PV to start with. It's better than an eGo and not as expensive as a ProVari. And if you get the button top batteries, they will work in a ProVari if later that's the way your brother wants to go.

Two other things:
Juice - Could be costly depending if your brother is really picky on what flavors he vapes and it takes a while to figure out what flavors, what liquid pg/vg percentages to use and also nicotine level. I suggest buying samplers or small bottles to begin with. It's more expensive but I guarantee there will be flavors he won't like and you don't want him to be stuck with large quantities that he's never going to use.

Delivery system - Clearomizers, cartomizers, tanks, rebuildables..... Something like the Protank 2 is probably the easiest way to go to start with. Lots use cartomizers and tanks as the flavor tends to be better but they are a tad bit harder to fill.

Also, back up equipment. Definitely need at least a couple of back ups, including an extra charger.

I second this. And I'll also say that it's pretty hard to go wrong with a ProVari (I think one or two people have, though). Get your brother an eGo twist (plus charger), a juice sampler, a ProTank mini or two and some replacement atomizer heads for the ProTanks. When the coils in the heads burn out, save them. They are really easy to rebuild when you get to that stage in your vaping journey.

Hello from another noob (3mos)
I was going to ask the same question as Uncle with this addition.
Have you discussed ecigs with him or has he investigated the options?

What I mean is, the MODS can be a bit intimidating when you first see one. (I thought it looked like sucking on the end of a lightsaber when I first saw one) There was just NO WAY I personally could have jumped right into that.

Additionally, being more addicted to the ritual of smoking than the nicotine , I needed something that looked and mimicked a cigarette as much as possible to fool my brain into thinking I was smoking not vaping (i.e. a cig-a-like)
I also was much more inclined to use it no matter where I was (in public) as I transitioned.

Not saying what type of device is best for your brother--but you might want to discuss with him what he would be comfortable with.

Convenient accessibility of eliquid/cartos is another thing to consider. If I'm out late partying, I ALWAYS know I can pick up an NJOY/Blu if all else fails!

I've tried to quit smoking in the past and nothing worked for me. Vaping is the only way I was able to get off analogs for longer than a month. I have no desire to go back to smoking since I started vaping.

Assuming your brother really wants to quit and money isn't a problem, here's what I think you should get:

ProVari v2.5 kit in the mini or standard size. The mini has more options as far as making it smaller or larger depending on the extension caps or tubes used. The smallest batteries might last 2 - 6 hours. The bigger batteries might last 6 - 10 hours. It's pricey but he will never have to buy another one unless he runs over it with a lawn mower.

Two eGo type devices for back ups and a charger.

At least one other Protank 2 and extra heads. The heads last anywhere between one day and a month depending on the juice and how well things are cleaned. The coils on the heads can be rebuilt easily but I wouldn't worry about that right off.

Juice - if he's a heavy smoker, start with 24 or 18mg nicotine level. Common mixes are 80pg/20vg and 50pg/20vg. Buy flavors that he likes, some people say to stick to tobacco flavors, others say it's better using something entirely different. I don't have an opinion about this, I like coffee so I started with coffee flavors and still use them, though none really taste like real coffee.

This will give him everything he needs to start off with and he can even use the eGos as alternate devices. The Protank 2 will fit the eGos.

After he gets started with this, he can look into different delivery systems such as cartomizers, tanks and rebuildables.
