Guess it's safe to assume the dna 75's aren't bottom feeders ;)

now that I come to think about it, I don't think i've ever built a mod that wasn't a bottom feeder

yeah the dna75 is a bottom feeder too. it's the baby brother to my dna200, winds up almost an inch shorter, it's a single 18650 and it uses a conventional squonk bottle layout of course. I really wanted to wait till I got the dna200's into production and out there before starting on the dna75's, but since the new 510's winded up causing a little bit of a delay and re engineering on the 200's I decided to finish up my production plans for the 75 and try to pump out a few to sell while I wait for the materials I need to finish the 200's. the dna75's are easier to build and will cost less than the 200's, introductory pricing is $440 + shipping in a standard wood or built from your own supplied wood. like the dna200's, if I build some with more exotic woods that I provide then there may be an up charge depending on the cost of the wood.

these dna75's actually are a pretty cool mod, built with the same precision and design philosophy of building as compact as practical. to me the main reason the dna200 mod outshines these is because for less than an inch of additional height you wind up getting DOUBLE the battery life and the potential for more power, but if you like a really compact mod then these dna75's are pretty cool, assuming 75 watts is enough for you. it def is for me

this same basic mod design shown here could be built as either a dna75 squonker or it could also be built as a 2 cell dna200 non squonk box too for use with an RTA, price would be about the same because the difference in the cost of the chip is made up for by not having to do the fancy squonk hole. just depends on what chip is installed and whether a squonk hole is cut or a second battery wired in. here is a preview before the squonk holes are cut in these 2, bodies are unfinished, just roughed into shape. shown next to my dibi for size comparison, I also sat a 22mm atty on them, again for size comparison :)

oh, and these will also be built in either a left handed or right handed version, like the 200's. these first 2 shown here are right handed versions, left handed ones will just be mirror imaged with the chip and squonk holes reversed to there opposing sides. truth is either one can be vaped with either hand of course, it just comes down to personal preference of layout for that extra little touch of custom tailored comfort. squonk holes in these 2 will probably be corner loaded type for easy squonking, I should be able to show what I mean by that tomorrow... if anyone really wanted a standard front facing, in the door type squonk hole, that of course could be done too. I don't mind customizing the squonk hole to your preference, whether round or square or ergonomic type, beveled, etc...

if anyone on my interest list is interested in either one of these let me know, anyone from my interest list would have first choice on these, either in lieu of, or in addition to there dna200. if not then when they are completed I will be offering them for sale here. these are both made from the same block of afzelia burl. no up charge on these premium woods right now :)

here is the default squonk holes for the dna75's. the 2 tone one may be sold but the other one is up for grabs here, I will make 2 more 75's in the next few days to sell here to raise some funds and then go back to finishing up the dna200's once and for all.

this is really a sweet little mod, I didn't think I'd like them nearly as much as I do, I've wished for a squonker just like this for a few years now, more than enough power really at 75 watts, full temp control with any wire and very compact. it's only a single 18650 though. I've been rolling with dual 18650's for a while now, so I really got used to having way more than enough battery life for a whole day plus, but then again I'm really liking this little thing too, may have to build one for myself :)

as I've said, I'm not much of a fan of CA finishes but some woods just beg for a CA finish and this is one of them, it really pops with a well done CA finish. many or most woods I prefer a natural oil rubbed finish but certain woods like this I guess I don't mind the CA finish so much, only problem is I get carried away with trying to make the finish flawless and it winds up taking me a really long time to do a finish like this, adds several hours to the build

the materials for the 200's should be here Tuesday, I hope to have a finalized 200 design locked in by the end of the week. aside from the 510 upgrade there is just one more tweak that I'd also like to do, more on that when I get back to working the dn200's :)

hey rudy, whats up :)

I'm popping in here to update the progress on the dna200, I've been working on the 510 offset in stainless steel, I came up with a way to tig weld the cross drilled hole closed then grind it flush so no extra plug would be needed there, but I've also been working on a way to reorganize the internals of the mod slightly to maybe do away with this offset all together and I think I've come up with a way that only adds like .05" to the width of the mod and eliminates the need for the offset entirely. I'm going to try to build a version of this maybe today. here is the latest version of the offset in stainless steel

the other last little pet peeve I've had with my prototype 200 is with the lower sliding door for the bottle cover. I originally designed this door as a friction fit, combined with the pressure of the bottle this itself retains the door in place and it works ok to keep the door in place, but what I have noticed in using the mod for several weeks now in testing is that over time this friction fit can loosen up slightly from repeated on and off sliding, to the point where the door slides on and off easier than originally set up to, and I'm thinking that for some, if the door winded up working in so well that it starts to slide back and forth really easily, then this might become an issue of the door sliding out of place unintentionally. there is no room down there for a magnet or anything and stuffing something behind the bottle to create additional pressure on the door is a crude way of dealing with this, so what I have now come up with is a way to have a definite "lock" on the lower sliding door.

originally the door slid up to the chip cover as a positive stop, but now I redesigned it for the lower door to actually slide through the chip cover too, and I'll make a locking tab to lock the door in place. now to slide the door on or off you will have to press a little release button tab to allow the door to move in or out of the locked position. this last addition will solve the only remaining thing that I felt was less than perfect on this mod. I hate little annoying things that could have been better implemented or solved with a little redesign and this one has shown itself to be that case here but this solves it

before :

and after(locking tab not in place yet, new chip cover will have to made for that) :

How thick is that front and bottom plate? <=Rhetorical no need to give specs. Don't see why a magnet or magnets couldn't be installed there and the bottom plate. Rob has some pretty thin ones in the Grand door and they hold.

yes, you're right, now that the lower plate passes through the chip cover I guess I could use a magnet there too, but the way it was originally, before it passed through the chip cover there was no edge large enough for a magnet at all. I already designed a locking tab but a magnet there would probably be easier. a locking tab would be more secure though... hmmm, I'll def consider this thought when I go into the shop later :)

I think a way to secure the bottle door is a great idea. This was something I had thought about also. I could see the door sliding out and losing it. :(
Some latches wear out over time....magnets probably won't. :)

I must say that the pictures don't do it justice. The fit and finish on this is incredible. Initial reports indicate that it seems to be idiot-proof as well. I managed to get it up and vaping with only one extra peek at the instructions [emoji3][emoji3]

thanks for the kind words mike, glad you're happy with it :) the other one that was built along side yours was sold last week and the new owner should receive it Wednesday, hopefully he's as happy with it as you are :)

Bob yours is moving along, fabrication is finished and first coat of oil finish applied, needs to dry then rubbed and coated another few times, then I can install the electronics and button her up, so another few days...

Bob's is the African Blackwood here, the other 2 in this batch are a Bolivian Rosewood. these are both very hard dense woods and are a great choice for an oil rubbed finish, so this weeks batch are all an oil rubbed natural finish. one Bolivian Rosewood is a traditional brass chip cover and the other one has a lot of nice black streaks in it so I used an African Blackwood chip cover with brass trim. the black chip cover will use brass buttons to match the brass trim, the ones with full brass covers will use ultem buttons like last weeks pair unless someone requests something different.

both of these Bolivian Rosewood mods are available here and will be finished in the next few days and up for grabs. the one with the African Blackwood chip cover is a left hand cut mod and the other is a right hand cut mod. either of these mods can of course be used with the opposite hand too, but the door will be facing your palm when used in the opposite hand.

... Initial reports indicate that it seems to be idiot-proof as well. I managed to get it up and vaping with only one extra peek at the instructions ...

speaking off this, I am pre programming each mod I send out to have the latest firmware installed and also pre configured profiles for SS316, SS430, Ni200 and Ti grade 1 for temperature control, as well as of course kanthal and nichrome in regular variable watts mode, so for those not very familiar with escribe and regulated dna mods in general it will be easy to get going right out of the box with no immediate need to use escribe. I'm also including a quick little rundown of how to operate it and change profiles and stuff.

although I do encourage anyone who gets a dna75 or dna200 to eventually download and play with escribe to really fine tune there mod, playing around with escribe is not necessary to use this mod right out of the box. I know this may be intimidating for some, especially those coming from mechs so I want to make the transition as painless as possible and I am wiling to help anyone with this :)
