Nothing is over until we say it is over. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Whatever you're drinking, please give me some.
I did. And now I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! :)
Hi night Birdie! :D
Right On Kat.

This forum has over 230,000 Members. Think what it would be like if Everyone did what you Did?
But the Active membership is only about a tenth of that and only about 2% care. That may change soon. The petition (see link in footer) has been moving briskly today. We're at 41,189 signers right now and looking for way more. Not bad for word of mouth though. :)

Its no secret one of the driving forces behind state law makers all out war on vaping is the loss of tax revenue. Tobacco taxes are a massive money maker for federal and state government, generating billions a year.

The federal government alone collects over $15 billion a year from tobacco taxes. In fiscal 2015 it is estimated state governments will collect a combined $25 billion annually from tobacco excise taxes. Some states in particlar have sky high taxes attached to cigarette purchases, in New York state the tax alone for a pack of cigarettes is $4.35. Ironically with the $25 billion collected by states, they will only spend a combined $490 million on smoking prevention and cessation programs. Which as noted $70 million of which will be allocated towards the ridiculous anti vaping propaganda that has arisen this year.

Although tobacco is a major money maker for the government, the resulting health care cost of smoking is exponentially greater. Smoking related illnesses account for $170 billion a year in health care costs. Over $80 Billion of which is paid for by our medicare and medicaid system, along with an additional $23 Billion a year spent by the VA fund.

To put that in context, the average median price for a pack of cigarettes is $6.35 but the total health care cost per pack sold is $35.

According to a new study by Scott J. Moody a leading contributor for State Budget Solutions, Vaping could potentially save our medicaid system billions a year. Using data from 2012, Moody`s researchconcluded “ The potential savings of e-cig adoption, and the resulting tobacco smoking cessation and harm reduction, could have been up to $48 billion in 2012. This savings is 87% higher than all state cigarette tax collections and tobacco settlement collections ($24.4 billion) collection in that same year.”

Law makers continue to cite the rise of vaping among underage children the real reason they have set the vape industry in their cross hairs. Yet as we have pointed out, the data also shows underage smoking rates to be in single digits for the first time in a generation and continuing to decline.

The healthcare savings greatly exceeds the tax revenue lost, not to mention the number of lives which would be saved.Along with siphoning off the $70 billion a year in cigarette profits from big tobacco into the hands of vape industry entrepreneurs who are creating jobs.

Is it any wonder that Big Tobacco and the health care industry both would oppose something so simple and beneficial as Vaping.

Vaping saved my life and it could save the lives of millions more

Awesome post of data!

Follow the Smell of Money...:rules:

This is the same FDA that doesn't protect us from food mislabeling i.e "artificial and natural flavoring" loop holes, chinese chicken processing etc. For that matter actual tobacco leaf products of which 14 year olds are allowed to harvest without protective gear and wind up suffering from nicotine poisoning. This actually happens in the U.S.A and is a dirty secret of the USDA Agriculture system thanks to profits for "Big Tobacco".

Nicotine does not have to be specifically derived from tobacco. It comes from the nightshade Family.

If you study the pharmacology it seems closer to mood stabilizers, metabolic supplements and caffeine.

We do not see the FDA banning "redbull" sale to minors or caffeine and in fact some people give it 5 year olds.. WTH?

Oh yeah Big Soda owns that...

If you want to talk Big money, Just ask anyone who works in the Healthcare Industry of which is the most important.
Healing People or Determining what is Billable?

All these Forces in place have finally become so powerful that despite the mass consensus want for better health and the technology to do so exists cost effectively, we choose to go the route that is the most detrimental route possible by using regulation once again to profit GREEDY CORPORATIONS off the death of the corporate slaves!

The Vaping community has shown in the last few years how a true "free market" without much regulation has vastly and quickly improved technology. Some Juice makers are even testing their own supplies for chemical anomalies and purity. Others are setting up scientific production lines etc. Temperature control shows great promise to safely and consistently use vaping. Designs approaches are all communally learning to improve.
You can actually buy sub-ohm equipment and Vg juice locally at my walgreens.

Yet the FDA needs to protect the profits of a dynasty industry built from slavery 300 years ago.(Big Tobacco)

The scariest thing to me in all of this is that we may only be able to buy supplies of Nicotine Juice from "Big Tobacco" with all their secret "proprietary additives".

:danger:The EPA allows Fracking(secret additives) so why not the FDA?:danger:

We are totally FRACKED!

Ooh oooh that smell...

Well if you want to go there ;), supplements send 23,000 Americans a year to the emergency room. Look at the history of Chantix, that will make you vomit. Check out kids and laundry pods (hint, they die). No new sunscreens approved in something like ten years but the ones we use are poisoning the ocean... List goes on.

But I have seen a few posts here where people are asking if the materials you just listed will also be heavily controlled, and a few responders have told them, with authority and certainty, that they probably will. Now I'm all for the cause at hand here, but throwing senseless sensationalism and paranoia into the mix doesn't serve to help our cause.
There is no sensationalism or paranoia about it. Indiana has already passed these things. It already law there.
Its too late now. I blame all the major US based manufacturers of hardware and juice for this blow we will take. It was their fight, not the consumers.
To be fare to the vendors this legislation was going to happen no mater who was against it.
First they decide what to do and then the deeming dog and pony show.
I Don't Know where people starting getting the Concept that the FDA's goal is to Restrict Cotton Balls or Kanthal Sales came from? And It is Divergent from what should be on People's minds.
I don't believe its the FDA's intent to harass DYI'ers initially. By not going right after DYI it gives them leeway to
clamp down on the regular market while the DYI'ers are busy DYI'ing. If DYI gets to big they will have the
regs in [place to shut it down.
Regards
Mike

I quit vaping about a month ago but consider me a supporter. My mom is close to quiting the vape as well. This is what the FDA fears the most, healthier Americans. Considering the amount of poison that is approved for human consumption and is causing cancer, they want people to be sick. Big pharma needs that cash flow. Big tobacco is there to help with that. Seriously, a lot of American foods are banned in other countries. Big tobacco will take over this industry and get back to feeding everyone poison. Vaping IS the ONLY effective way to get people to quit, and it was for me. THEY don't want you to quit the dangerous cancer causing habits. It makes me sick. It's even more disturbing when they only do it for the money.

I get called into work for two days straight and I come home to my 'lil happy vaping world going up in :vapor:...just the wrong kind.
Everyone who's reading this thread - make sure you go to the casaa Call to Action :)
And while you're there please follow the link to make sure you're registered to vote. Politicians love their money but they love their votes too and if you're registered your voice WILL carry more weight in that arena.

President Barack Obama (D-), Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-MD), Rep. John Delaney (D-MD)

Notified of my Position. :sneaky:
Imma bet they were more than just notified from knowing your special way with words here on ECF :p

BTW - Could this Wording be Applied to a Retailer who would like to Sell a Bottle of Mixed Flavorings for an End User to DIY themselves.

Page #6

217 ... For example, where a "zero nicotine" or "nicotine free"
218 e-liquid is imended or reasonably expected to be mixed with liquid nicotine. that e-liquid may be
219 a component or pan of a tobacco product and subject to FDA' s tobacco control authorities. FDA
220 considers such e-Liquids to be a tobacco product even if sold separately from an aerosolizing
221 apparatus.

The Reason I asked is that some Owners/Retailers are Hoping that even if they can Not Sell e-Liquids that contain Nicotine, that they would be Able to Sell a Bottle of Mixed Flavorings that an End User could put into Unflavored.
Let's hope Mom & Pop are in the process of becoming the flavor shop, at this very minute. At the least we have two years and that is a long time for people to stock up and find many work-arounds...I have no doubt that a community as large as this one is will have a plan b, c & d two years from now.

Guys...I am not a US citizen and I don't live in the US..I am Egyptian and I have to say that this upcoming legislation will not only affect you guys in the US but also our lives here in Egypt. The minute the US adopts a legislation that restricts or limits vaping in any way it will inspire similar and probably more stupid regulations in other countries around the world. In case you don't know, there are dozens of countries, my own included, that blindly copy FDA regulations. In our case it will be much worse for several reasons. First we don't live in a democracy by any chance and we have very limited opportunities to discuss regulations and legislation. Second, cigarettes are much cheaper in Egypt and other developing countries than they are in the US. A pack of Marlboros costs $3 in Egypt, including taxes(low production costs, low labor costs,..etc.), and local brands cost much less, with the result that Egypt has one of the highest prevalence rates of smoking worldwide. Still cigarettes are the goose that lays golden eggs for our bureaucrats since cigarettes can be taxed ad infinitum. Egyptian vapers have been told very bluntly that our Ministry of Health will never allow vaping products inside the country because they cause a threat to "sovereign revenues". That's why we end up smuggling vaping products, juices, even e-juice DIY ingredients and paying 3 or 4 times the prices you guys pay in the US.

For me and for thousands other than me vaping has been and still is a life savior...LITERALLY. I've been having severe problems with my coronary arteries since I was 30..(I started smoking at 15) and now I'm 48 with 8 stents scattered throughout my arteries. It was my cardiologist who actually encouraged me to try vaping nearly two years ago..and thanks to vaping I am in a much better shape. Actually, I can't remember being healthier. He (my cardiologist) even asked me for suggestions on vaping gear that he can recommend to his patients and relatives or things that he can pick up for his friends during his next visit to the US (he is a prominent member of the American Heart Association).

I apologize for the lengthy message..but I needed to tell you that this will not just affect you guys..it will affect the lives of many more people around the globe. Once this piece of legislation or regulation is passed it will be very difficult to reverse..and ignorance and stupidity are contagious! So if there is anything I can do or a way I can contribute to your/our cause please let me know.
Your post brought tears to my eyes. Maybe there is a way you could ask your cardiologist to use your case as an example of a vaping success story, since he is a prominent member of the American Heart Association his opinion and observations may have weight here in the US? Just a thought.

Anyone else who's worked with their doctor while switching from cigarettes to vaping and had positive effects on their health could also ask their doctor to write to the FDA or lawmakers as well and give consent to use their case as an example.

Good to see so many positive opinions. I just didn't want to go through and sample a bunch of bases, which may be very lazy but there you go lol.
Katya, I been stocking up from NN too....good stuff, like you said, unflavored is actually good...!
Anyone who is looking into DIY as a result of this should really do lots of research and due diligence on their choice of nic supplier. I specifically stay away from Nude due to the issues last year and again recently with their nic levels not being accurate. This new situation is scary and emotions are very high, while NN may be a great nic supplier for experienced DIY folks who test their nic levels or know what to expect from experience, I feel like it's especially important for anyone new to DIY to be encouraged to research and make an educated decision, rather than just shoot off the emotional hip in choosing who they buy their nic from. To me it's an important decision and it really will effect how well your DIY juice suits your tastes and expectations in the end. It would suck to get two years down the road and have nic you hate as your only available option. Sadly, what you put in your freezer today may be just that in two years. /soapbox off

Just to complete the scenery, here in Spain we're trying to counteract a draft of regulation which, over all the facts correctly stated by cllmda, it dares to ban all publicity-related activities of vaping. In a surprising and disturbing twist, Spanish regulators have proposed to ban public meetings and hangouts of vapers, any kind of publicity and marketing related to vaping in any media, and any kind of defence of vaping (as it were a criminal offense), effectively going far beyond today and future regulations for tobacco. It carries us back in time to darker times of dictatorial regimes. All for the allegedly sake of public health, as if they were fully convinced that vaping is far worse than smoking.

We've been astonished by this, specially as it is running up in parallel with recent news about British and French proposals to alleviate the expected punishment over vaping industry which comes from the EU directives, as they are starting to consider vaping a valid smoking-cessation strategy and are likely bound to prescribe e-cigs to heavy-tainted smokers who cannot get out of the tobacco by any other means.

It is happening, and it has several shades according to the level of protection of each ruler over the tobacco industry, or, if you like to say so, the pressure applied by lobbies here and there, Big Tobacco and Health Industry related. It's like they have surmised that the last train to stop the vaping industry and the constant leak of smokers to vaping is now, and they are rising the stakes at their maximum. Because of that, every regulatory proposal has some minimal grounds which effectively kill the vaping industry and leaves us, the vapers, with a grim future, and smokers with one even darker.

Because of the last paragraph stated, it is also some criminal attack over 'we, the people', in whichever country it is happening. It's a global dilemma, in the short time, comparable to the global warming as it renders a heavy death toll if we (as active vapers today) and the civil society (as the ultimate interested in avoid that toll) do not do anything, exactly as the global warming could do in the next decades.

But, for reasons I cannot fully understand, we've got very little media impact, and even in our ranks we are not able to move them..... Recent WHO statements about processed meats do have it though....Not so old biased and gutter press releases had it.......:(
Nice to see the Spanish Inquisition is still alive and well, even if on a different persuit. This is some scary stuff from Egypt to all of Europe to the entire world. Big Tobacco and Big Pharma both have A LOT to lose in this fight. I just hope our fight isn't over before it's barely begun. It appears we have one day from the time this :censored: crap hit the fan to an Executive decision? If that's the case I would say it wasn't unintentional, but is it really the case?

Tonight I've thought quite a bit about the fact that Obama smokes. My first thought was he knows personally our struggle, how could he not look at vaping and at least consider it? The more I think about it though he's spent 7 years in front of the Country lighting up, certainly hasn't gone out of his way to hide it from the media. It reminds me of the well placed cereal box on the kitchen counter of a tv show or the actor holding a can of soda during an interview. I guess we'll see where his interests lay in the future...it still won't stop me making my calls tomorrow though  and sending some :mail: messages his way following said calls :D

I don't think they're going to intentionally go after DIY for the reasons you mentioned. I do think they will quickly go after bulk nicotine that is readily available to the public. We're all little kids who are doing boob'd up hand checks on social media...not a responsible enough portion of the populace to handle nic in bulk.

Ugh, I need to go to bed...first sad, now angry, by tomorrow I'll be in the next stage of grief, lol.

I can't help but wonder if the FDA went full tilt with this because they're afraid some or a lot of it won't stick. They have to know they can't stop it. I think they know this and that's why their jumping in so strongly. I'm not saying there's nothing to worry about, I'm just saying it looks to me that they're just as worried as we are but for opposite reasons. This industry was built from the ground floor up by vapers and they know we're not going to just hang our heads and slink away from this.
