I'd be interested to know how the lower wave models work out of curiosity. I thought someone else posted that they bought one of the smaller battery operated models like that, but that it was a "sonic" cleaner, not an "ultrasonic" cleaner, which, the OP (I believe) said is not the same thing and would not clean like the ultrasonic machines. Was the one you bought sonic or ultrasonic?

It was advertised as "ultrasonic" but who knows what the industry standard for "ultra" is?

Yeah, I'm not sure what the difference between "sonic" and "ultrasonic" is. Maybe the OP knows. I just saw a reply that said sonic wouldn't work as an ultrasonic. Good question. Anyone know what the diff is?

Up to 20,000 Hz or 20kHz you can hear it so it's sonic, over 20,000 cycles/second is ultrasonic.
I tryied the ultrasonic method on my ego-t with plate removed, 5 cycles of 3 minutrs each, 90deg alcohol and hot water, put the ato both vertical and horizontal. I am dissapointed, the black residue un the coil is still there. The only way to remove it it's dryburn, nothing else removes it.

The ultrasonic cleans the mesh, wick, and all the material below the coil to like new. The coil you have to perform a dryburn, just as you have to with any other cleaning methods; the gunk on the coil can only be removed by burning it away.

:unsure:Finally, my cleaner is on the way from Harbor Freight. I really hope this takes care of my three burnt tasting attys  Gonna use everclear and see what happens.

Just a note that if you ordered from HF, it will take a good month or even longer to get. Most of their stuff comes from over seas.

Next question, are you all saving the solvents you are using? Leaving it in the cleaner until the next time? Throwing it? Just kinda wondering. Using PGA or vodka would get kinda expensive to throw away every time.

Did u end up with a clean atty if so what worked for you?

Sorry kilascay, I just got back to this thread. I did end up with a clean atty, but like alldayvape said, only after a dry burn. The cleaner does a fantastic job cleaning everything but the coil.
I've since gotten much better at fashioning wicks so I still remove the plate to see the coil as I dryburn, I've never been able to see the glow with the plate on.

I actually had someone pick it up from the store. In response to your question though, I did save the alcohol because the 2 attys that I cleaned weren't too dirty at all. I think it just wasn't wicking for some reason. It did take more liquid than I thought it would but the PGA that I bought wasn't too expensive so it isn't a problem. If it gets really dirty next time I use it, I will throw it out.

I also don't change the water/PGA every time (I use about 2/3 PGA and 1/3 filtered H2O). I blow them out and rinse them well before putting them in. I check the water and see how it looks. Thus far, I've been changing it every 2-3 cleanings.

Just wanted to see if anybody could confirm. I've read thru the majority of the posts on this thread, got the itch for a cleaner now.

How about stainless steel attys? Since there is no paint, there shouldn't be anything to worry about other than the adhesive in the atty working loose? Or did I miss something else I should watch out for?

I was planning on using some everclear I have, which I've noted could mess with the adhesive.

Water + Stainless seems pretty safe, as long as you don't overdo it?

The stainless won't be a problem. Just have to be careful with the smooth finishes like the black ones because it starts to look like it wants to peel until you let it dry. Seems to be fine after that. I only have one tiny spot of missing finish on the one atty that I use the most.

I use a mix of water + PGA to protect the attys w/finishes that I have (and also bc water is cheaper than PGA, and I'm thrifty). But I have a few SS attys that had a juice that just didn't want to leave the atty. I had them soaking in there for about 2 days (and the juice FINALLY vacated my atties) and they look just fine.

I bought a Chicago Ultrasonic from my local Harbor Freight, been cleaning for about 30 minutes i have to keep pressing the button as it's auto off at 3min.

I have an njoy cartomizer which i have taken apart and sit in 420 glass cleaner. In 24 hours the carbon eventually gave, i threw it in the ultrasonic bath for 15min, this thing looks prestine, i have a jewelery scope that magnifies 100x, the coil looks clean but retains charcoal colors, same as the fiber but i see no debri in the fiber what so ever. It's clean but stained.

I haven't taken the ego-t atomizer yet, i want to clean it for 1 hour and i'll post results

Well, dry burned 2-3 times, works great, but it lacks in wicking (i'll need to pop off the wicking cap and cleaning the coil myself with a toothpick but i need hemostat clips or a nice thin strong alligator plier [ty cignot for the tip]).

I noticed with the loose atomizer i had on hand the fibers were ripped around the coil from the ultrasonic (that or a few strands managed to wrap itself around it from the waves). I hope this didn't happen inside my tank atomizer but meh w/e I just ordered a mini storm from stormy's vapor cellar (i wanted the led version but i want to try this out, if it doesn't leak i am getting a Storm LED and my sister or dad can have the mini storm. I also noticed in the Ultrasonic bath were floating pieces of fiber, at first i thought it was dog hair but again using my jewelry scope, it is indeed fiber.

Not saying that the ultrasound didn't work, it cleaned it but there is the risk of the fiber/wick being ripped apart. I would also not recommend using ultrasonic on a MAP/Storm tank mod as thewaves WILL destroy your fiber.

Mind you, this is after a 1 hour bath.
