I'm a subscriber to Steel Jan's videos and heard about her resignation yesterday as a goodbye video done by her neighbor was sent to me via Jan's subscription service. Maybe I'd be well off to just let things be, but I can't help being a little curious about what so bad happened to Jan that she succumbed to the pressure to remove and silence herself from this community.

It appears that she has removed all her YouTube ecig related videos and also, all other videos posted here or on YouTube that would inform us as to the cause of all this fallout have also been deleted. Does anyone here have the real story, or should we just let things be? I'd really like to know the truth of the matter, because right now it looks like some bad guys have won a pretty big victory.

As far as I know, and I could be completely wrong, it all stemmed from an off-handed remark in the phoenix carto review where she criticized people using those big honking meters to read out measurements (volts/ohms). Apparently, a vocal minority attacked her for it claiming she was stupid. I'm not any electrical engineer so I wouldn't know for certain. She had a reasonable belief, but on the other hand, I think meter makers might have taken into consideration her misgivings in their design.

Really, the whole thing is childish. Honestly, both sides make me cringe.

Thanks, Katatonik, that explanation helps a lot!

I watched that whole thing unfold, but in her "Help!" video, she said it's been going on for some time, so it wasn't just that comment and the commenters that set her off. I'm sure that was the final straw, but she made clear that it's been a problem for quite some time.

I've uploaded videos to Youtube and gotten negative comments and PMs (along with the positive). Youtube commenters are largely made up of trolls and people too young to know better than to use ad hominem attacks in an attempt to assert their opinion. I ignored them, but not everyone can do that, and it's a shame she had to be put through attacks over whatever issue people had with her. I know I enjoyed her videos -- it was unusual to see a nice, educated lady of her age advocating vaping and explaining things in very interesting ways.

Here's hoping she returns...
