Just remember people, that just as many of us feel that doctors and other who have a negative impression of ecigs are biased against it, we, as a vaping community have a definite bias towards it.

We honestly do not know of the full effect longtime exposure to ecigs will have, we only know the health benefits that are recordable and reproducable when one quits smoking. We can surmise based on previous evidence of the long term effects from nicotine, proplyne glycol, etc, but there could still be unseen issues. Smoking AND vaping are not healthy, but vaping appears to be far less damaging at this time.

Personally, I consider vaping, 'smoking' but of a different medium. I consider the term smoking to mean the inhalation and exhalation of a substance that can produce a cloud, though, and remember this is just my opinion. I have been vaping for four years now, and have no intention of quitting anytime soon. I vape a lot. I've had a few cigs over the last few months, and was surprised at how easily my body took to the difference between the two.

Anyways, i wouldn't be too hard on a doctor who is required to follow certain guidelines and standards. Recommending something non FDA approved is potentially hazardous to a doctor is a sue-happy nation.

I was diagnosed with COPD a few months ago. For your information, the doctor that diagnosed me had absolutely no objections to vaping. In fact he is trying to get me to convince his receptionist, who smokes, to try vaping.

However, I went to another doctor for a physical, and he didn't like vaping. His reason is that nicotine raises blood pressure, and I also have slightly high blood pressure... 130. But, of course, he admitted that vaping is vastly better than smoking, for the other reasons that we all know.

So, not all doctors are the same !

Id change doctors personally and thats solely based on her telling you that she's dishonest in so many words.

Integrity SHOULD go hand in hand with doctors and mechanics. She sounds more like a lawyer or a politician and Id sooner let my kid operate on me than them.

Shes a doctor and most have been corrupted by pharmaceutical companies. Health care isn't about making the right choices anymore its about who can make the most money.

Hence my comment about her lacking integrity.Get another doctor that you can trust. In fact start off asking them how they feel about vaping and base your decision on that. could end up saving your life.

I couldn't agree more. I would have changed 3 years ago when I told my doctor I was vaping. I see him every 3 months. In that short time he could see positive results and looked into vaping right here on ECF. My next visit I got a thumbs up.

Exactly! Doctors base their practices on evidence. There are NO medically acceptable published studies on e-cigs. Only warnings from medical establishments and the FDA that these MAY not be safe.

If any Doctor practice outside existing guidelines they CAN BE HELD LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE for their actions. So if e-cigs wind up giving you cancer 10 years later you could blame it on your doctor.

Just sayin.... don't take how every doctor SHOULD practice as a personal insult.

Just like how a lawyer can know that their client is guilty but isnt allowed to say so in court? No thank you my morals are a little more solid than that, established and accepted protocols or not.

Id still find another doctor.

I tried patches, gums, lozenges,Chantix, nothing worked. I had a heart attack in 2008 and my cardiologist has been on my case for all that time to quit.
I started vaping in 2009, but just went totally off of analogs about 6 months ago. At my last appointment with him, of course they asked about my smoking and I talked about e-cigs and not having a smoke in a few months. I expected the doctor to feed me the 'not approved' language, but he simply congratulated me on quitting. So, perhaps there's hope :)

Surprising and not at the same time. I mean... I told my lung specialist that I use an ecig and she was over the moon that I was not smoking. "Whatever you can do to avoid smoke entering you lungs is great in my book." Her exact words. My regular doctor was just concerned if I was still using nicotine (which I am not concerned with at all).

If you are going to go back to her, I might just to give her more info, I would give her this link Electronic Cigarette - Dr. David Baron, M.D. - PART 1/2 - YouTube. The more information she has the better. And while she wants to cover her .... and not go out of her way to recommend e-cigs to patients, it's not her place to tell you not to use them. I mean they are legal and their is nothing in them KNOWN to harm you like cigs do. I am very passionate about it because I know for a fact that my health has improved and my lungs are a million times better then when I was smoking. If any dr. got on me about it I would tell them that. I would let them know I was getting 5-10 LIFE threatening asthma attacks a day before I switched to the e-cig. And now I get maybe 1 very mild asthma attack a week. SO hows that for proof that e-cigs are a benefit and a WAY healthier option for people who smoke. I am living proof.

Honestly I don't have a problem with the Dr.. I realized she was between a rock and a hard place. Just the fact that she relented enough to acknowledge my choice as being smart was enough for me. She was very careful in the way she worded that. She has been fine in other regards but I'm telling you her bedside manner or whatever you label that is just awful. She could have avoided the whole thing very simply by not using the words can't and don't. I offered to get her some information and she said it wouldn't matter until it was an approved treatment. Oh well I don't think she'll question my vaping again. You can bet I will be mentioning it. I will continue to let her know just how much better I feel every single time I go in there! Who knows maybe a bit of that is what our medical professionals need to also start standing up for obvious improvements for their patients instead of pushing the latest pill. Worth a try in my opinion.

i was in the brain ward of one of the best nuerology departments in north america (suspected stroke) i am fine :) the head brain surgeon there was doing a daily check up on me, (admitted for 2 days for tests) we got to talking and i subcousiouly took a big drag off my ego c, he says, what the hell is that? you can't smoke in a hospital!! i proceed to tell him what it is and how long im smoke free, all he could do was gush how much better it is than smoking, so if one of the top brain surgeons in north america approves then it's all good!!!

I just had to get refills for BP. Was not at the Doc for quite some time and also had to change Doctor because my old one left.
The new Doc asked if I smoke and I told him no I use E-Cig instead. He did not say anything so I asked him if he has an opinion and if yes if he would mind sharing that opinion. He told me he does not know anything about them but some of his collegues recommend them.
He then regonized that my BP has gotten real good and was suprised as I told him that even though it should not be done I have 1/2 the dosage by myself. Thats when he got real interested in the vaping. He asked alot of questions about the nicotine and how I use it.
I had a P18350 with a Genisis in my pocket so I pulled it out and explained it. I even had to show him how the coil works hehe.
Then he wrote me a prescription with the lowest dose and begged me not to 1/2 that one hehe.
Was a great expierience to see his interest awake and having an open mind.:)
