Greetings; Thanks to everyone who replied to my message for all the great help -- despite my frustrating experience, I'm totally sold on vaping (i'm now three days cigarette-free and counting). Having an online community with this kind of support for us newbs is fantastic.

I'm looking at some of the alternatives suggested above, and I'm leaning in favour of an EVOD starter kit -- they're inexpensive (at least here in Toronto) so I figure I can't go too wrong. If I understand correctly, I can use my eGo battery as a spare for the EVOD kit, and so my first starter kit won't be a total write-off.

Regards
Glenn

After three days, it's not really necessary to throw your equipment away and get something different. There are ways to get the equipment you have working.

hi Glen and welcome. Ego CC is a good PV but there is a learning curve there, like with any PV,

Have you watched any of the Youtube videos? There are several--this is just one of them: (links omitted)

Good luck!

As a matter of fact I have seen YouTube vids on how to fill the eGo-CC, and how to use it. I've been through the manual, and through the regular part of this forum looking for info on proper use of this model.

If the problem lies with something that I am doing incorrectly, I can't figure it out, though I understand that there is a learning curve. I've got a couple friends who've been vaping for awhile, and I hope I can meet up with them soon to get some tips.

Patkin, the product I have is the one shown in your link, so i'm sure I've got a real eGo-CC. I looked up pix of the CE4 eGo-CC, which has a different tip, along with black volume lines marked on the clearomizer.

Regards
Glenn

The EVOD starter kit is a great buy. I'm using the batteries/charger from one right now in my main set-up. I did end up replacing the EVOD clearomizers with Kanger T2s since I prefer the warmer vape of a top coil, but that's just personal preference.

One word of advice regarding the EVOD: before you fill it with liquid, take a toothpick, sewing needle or similar implement and "fluff up" the short wicks the protrude out of the coil head that screws into the base. This will help to prevent the leaking/gurgling problem that sometimes occurs when using this clearo with a thinner liquid.

Here's prolly the cheapest Vendor in Canada- also ECF listed/ verified/ trustworthy. Has stalls open on the weekend in and around TO. If you order online and pickup at one of the stalls it's not as expensive- prices are higher if bought at the stall.

Edit: For pickup on Sat or Sun you have to order by Thursday.

Ego batteries are fairly reliable and very convenient. They work very well with smaller tanks, evod, protank mini, protank, protank II, etc. I would recommend the 2.2 ohm resistance heads so you have decent control over the intensity on a limited battery like the ego. They generally don't leak...if they do you can replace or rebuild the coils on the cheap.

I wanted to provide an update to my OP, and say 'thanks' again for all the helpful suggestions made above.

I got an EVOD clearomizer on the weekend, which ended the problem I was having with leaking, but I find that the taste is a lot different from what I got with the eGo-CC clearmomizer, and I also found it harder to draw a satisfying amount of vapor on the EVOD.

I found a good EVOD Blog post How To: Fix Kanger EVOD leaking/gurgling issues | Deus Ex Vaporis -- the part that interests me is where the blogger talks about inserting his own wicks, to improve the vapor flow.

I want to give this a try, but based on advice provided above, I've also ordered a Pro Tank II which should arrive in a couple days. I guess I'm morphing from a total newb into an intermediate vaper (vape-guy?), and I believe that a little experimentation will lead me closer to that 'perfect vape.'

Glenn_K,

Welcome aboard.....Like you, I am new to the "more advanced" forms of vaping. I started back in '08 or '09, gave up because the hardware at the time was, in my opinion horrible. Now I have picked up an ego-c twist starter kit, along with an eVic.

I have noticed that at odd times, most of my tanks will gurgle or leak, at least a little bit. Sure that some of it is my technique, or over-filling, or maybe juices that are too "thin".

I do not think there is any "perfect" fill and go system out there; there will always be some fiddling. Nature of the beast, I suppose, as quite a few people seem to have no issues, and some have issues. Ultimately, I find that no matter how much "fiddling" I have to do, it is way better than everything that goes along with analogs.

My equipment, for record:
joyetech evic
2 ego-c twist 1000mah batteries
2 kanger MT3 tanks
2 vision victory bcc tanks
Anyvape Davide Glass tank -full size (LOVE IT, BTW)

I like EVODs but they are hit and miss. I say to everyone buy a few and spare coil heads and try all of them, changing heads as a last resort, before giving up on them.

Same goes for iclear16s, novas and CE4s (the type with replaceable heads and spring loaded battery contact).

I'm using ego style batteries and have all the aforementioned clearomizers.
EVODs can be great, I have a few good ones; some too airy, some gurgle and leak though. It can be a bad head (wick, coil etc), or bad technique using it.

Iclear16s are great, dual coil heads, lots of vapour and flavour; some are tight on the draw, some pop and spit a bit.
Novas are great, never spit or gurgle, lots of warm flavour; some leak though.

It's hit and miss and really need to buy a few (and spare head to change out if no luck), to evaluate them properly.
The old T2 is a good one too if wanting large tank capacity.

I haven't got my mini protank 2 yet, but not much different operation wise to an evod. I am getting a full size protank 2 because I expect to be able to get bigger batteries (ie a full size vv/vw device soon), but I would never recommend that to someone with a ego starter kit battery size - better off with EVODs if wanting Bottom coil models edit: or the mini protank 2; or the older kangertech T2 and iclear16, CE4s, mini novas for top coil models on a small ego battery.
