Virginia should come out strongly in favor of e-cigarettes provided, of course, Phillip Morris and other traditional tobacco businesses can get in on the market. As long as e-juice stays legal, I see no reason VA farmers could not profit, stay employed, etc.

At the same time VA continues to receive revenue from individuals and businesses engaged in the tobacco/e-juice industry it could (hopefully) save the $6.whatever the Ash-hats seem to think it is spending on "smoking-related" health care.

Of course, I would be willing to bet it does not realize anything like those projected savings. Why? Because more than half the crap they are calling "smoking related" isn't. If everyone went cold turkey tomorrow, people would still have heart attacks, strokes, cancers, even COPD ... Sucks, but there you have it.

If you live in the Commonwealth of Virginia, please respond with the number of packs of cigarettes you did NOT consume during the year 2009 as a direct result of having started to use an "electronic cigarette".

I'll kick things off. I used to smoke 1/2 pack a day and started using on March 27, 2009. I'll round that off to April 1, which would give me 275 days in 2009 when I did not consume 1/2 pack, for a total of 137.5 packs.

I have information from the VDH Web site that states:

Smoking-caused health costs and productivity losses per pack sold in Virginia: $6.27

So by my calculations, I single-handedly saved Virginia over $928 in 2009.

Let's total it up. I need this information for a project that I am working on. Thanks!

EDIT: While we are at it, if you have experienced any changes in your health that you attribute to this, would you mention that in your response as well.

In my case, stopped wheezing, can laugh without going into a coughing jag, no more morning yuck, and lowered blood pressure.

*Hotel Info for the East Coast meet up

Here is the deal for the hotel guys...

We were originally going to stay at the Holiday Inn but it isn't built yet so I decided to look around and find something else so we could get the ball rolling. I contacted Wingate by Wyndham Fredericksburg Virginia Hotels - Wingate by Wyndham Fredericksburg

They have given us a rate of $76.50 per night.
If we book 25 rooms (or more) we get a meeting room free.
If we do not book 25 rooms the rate for the meeting room is $450 (see update below).
I have it set up so everyone will call and book thier own rooms. It will be easier than a master account. The name of our group is "Vapers"

If we have to pay for the meeting room, we will all need to chip in to pay for it. This gives us a place to hang out other than the halls I am sure that, that will happen anyway though

We are going to get at least a few adjoining rooms for the night owls

I told him that we will have some people staying Friday night and Saturday night and some just Saturday night. So the rate is good for both nights.

If you look at the website, there is a "things to do" tab so you can see what's around. The guy from the hotel said that there were lots of restaurants in the area.

Update: I just heard from the guy at the hotel. If we do not book 25 rooms, the meeting room will be $450!! However, if just 25 people show up, that's only $18 per person and obviously the more people, the cheaper per person.

He also said that he will do his best to get us all in the same area of the hotel.

IT IS TIME TO BOOK YOUR ROOM!!!!!!!!
To book your hotel room, you need to call 540-368-8000

The code for our block of rooms is CGVAPO

You have until 2.12.10 to book

I'm interested in meeting up. Fredricksburg is only an hour from my house, so I don't need a hotel room.

What's the plan for locals like me? Should I show up at the hotel to find the festivities?

All are welcome, we would appreciate any type of a money Donation toward the Conference room we are renting, we will be live on Upstream for those two days, Friday March 12 , and Saturday March 13. Their will be many suppliers theirs like, Rath Juice, Cigtechs, Eliquidplanet, ElectroNicStix, and many others. We will also have Raffles for some great e-cig prizes, proceeds go to

sounds like it will be a lot of fun :) . . you said there will be vendors there, can you give us an idea of what equipment they'll have for sale with them? sounds like a great opportunity to meet fellow Vapers. I don't live too far away and think it would be a great opportunity to really expose some family and friends to Vaping on a "larger scale" . . . not just my personal experience, but to show it's really made a difference to a lot of other people as well.

Sounds like a great chance to stock up on some atty's and juice . . and maybe some fun new "toys" :p

Keep us updated if you can on how many more rooms have been booked, or how many more you need. I live in Falls Church . . actually moving to Richmond in a couple weeks but still have a home in FC . . but i'd be more than willing to book a room if needed and it helps the cause.

79 Packs in 2009.

I no longer have problems with my activated asthma due to smoking or have trouble adjusting to sharp temperature changes. My blood pressure is lower, especially after exercising.

If you really want a large number to make them think about, I own a business selling E-cigs in Winchester (We specialize in Modern Vapor products right now, they're great) and the annual Virginia sales tax is estimated to be around $13,251.00. This estimate is for 2010 at our current rate of sales, which is increasing daily due to referrals. Without e-cigs that would be completely lost to VA as well.

Thanks Vocalek =)

Hi, just saw this thread and thought I'd add my $0.02...well, a lot more than that, actually!
My husband and I got our e-cigs for Christmas and have each cut our analog cig consumption by at least half. So conservatively estimating for the dates of December 25, 2009 through December 31, 2009, the figure for the 2 of us is 13 packs or $81.51!
Seems like a lot for such a short time! Hopefully we will both be analog cigarette free by the end of this year!
This sounds like an interesting project...I just wonder if they will realize that the "savings" will be offset by the loss on cigarette taxes. It seems that the whole uproar over public smoking wasn't really about the health issues after all, since e-cigs aren't even acceptable. It bothers me because I understood folks not wanting to be subjected to second hand smoke, and the odor, and the ashes and butts, but where is the objection to vaping coming from? This almost feels vindictive. "Not only will you not smoke near me, but you won't do anything that remotely resembles smoking near me."
There are a LOT of things that others do that are far more unpleasant than vaping...people better start getting used to losing their civil liberties, too, if they are OK with arbitrary bans on personal vaporizers!!
