USB Passthroughs - do they die quickly?

I ask this because I've got 2 USB Passthroughs. The first I got in November and another in December as a freebie. I didn't say anything when the first one died because I got the second one free the same day it stopped working (just by chance, but great timing.) Now though both are dead.

Is this normal? How long are they supposed to last? Is there some kind of maintenance that I'm supposed to do?

Thanks!

The redesigned, beefier, ones are currently being produced and coming shortly - as-per V4L

We have the samples on hand, they should be in stock with the next 10 days. I tried to take a picture on Friday, but our camera was not at the office. I will have a picture posted within a couple of days.

Sometimes, they get clogged up. Routine cleaning could solve the problem. My boyfriend uses an auto PT and every now and again it will just stop working. I unplug it, and give it a good cleaning with a slightly damp q-tip (make sure when you're cleaning that you don't get any alchohol in the center hole) & I make sure to poke around the air holes with a needle then I wipe it down really good to make sure it's dry. Plug it in and it's good as new! I've been able to revive it this way several times. Won't hurt to try and I hope it works for you!

I've had good luck so far - I am still using the first PT we got back in early November, and I often rolled up the cord, threw it in my pocket and took it to the office. I now keep a different one at the office, but the original is still going strong. I did put a drop of super glue where the cord exits the body, as has been suggested. Mine are all manual PT's.

Nice to hear. I have a couple PTs that I use heavily and have had no problems, but I have heard you can damage the thin cables pretty easily so I'm looking forward to the beefier models being out before I ever run into the need to order another. Puresmoker has some pretty beefy PTs but I don't think any come direct with a carto fitting - might have to use an adapter (could be wrong about that tho).

I tried to clean both of them but it didn't help. I've also glued the cables in to restrict their movements, but it sounds like too little too late.

Is there any way to fix them? Can I disassemble and perhaps re-solder a wire somewhere? I really enjoy my PT's and I would like to get at least one working again.

I don't want to order another if new, hardier ones are on the way.

I have 3 auto PTs, one is a spare, 1 in my van and one at my computer. The only V4L PT I've list since October was the one I rolled over the cable with my office chair one too many times. Guess I'm lucky.

Did have one of my original white, *red LED" batteries die a natural death last night. My most used trusty batt. Only the 3rd I've had fail and I consider that only one of those was defective, (replaced by V4L of course).

I've also not had any problems with my passthroughs yet. I used my first (manual) passthrough all day since mid October until I got my second (auto) passthrough on December 15th. Now I use them both equally throughput the day with no problems. I'm very careful about not putting any stress on the cord though. Since I started using a syringe to refill cartos, I have much better control with avoiding over filling and get 0 juice dripping out of the battery end, so I rarely have to clean my batteries anymore.

The first of the new passthroughs (which will probably be called the Vapor King Passthroughs, instead of my suggestion, the Leaford Passthroughs ;)) rolled off the assembly line today, and will ship first thing tomorrow morning! :thumb:

They have a sturdy multi-flex connector on the battery end, a shock absorbing and length extending flexible coil on the USB end, and a stiffer and more durable cable. All and all, the most durable regular e-cig sized passthrough on the market!

I've been using the prototype I got for a couple weeks now, and it's great! :D

The first ones are manuals, in black and white, but the autos and other colors will be rolling out soon, too.
