I've now been using a 901 Puresmoker USBpass for several days (I switched from using a standard DSE 901 PV), so it is time for a review...

- This was my first manual PT, so there was definitely a learning curve, but I've got the hang of it now.

- I have the USBpass hooked up to a Kensington Power Pack, and the USBpass is a vapor monster

- Throat hit is great (much better than regular DSE 901 PV)

- Nicotine hit is way up. Right out of the gate, with the USBpass hooked up to a computer USB port, I dropped my eliquid strength from 24mg to 16mg with no problems (unlike when I tried to do so with my 901). Once I switched to hooking the USBpass up to a Kensington Power Pack, I dropped my eliquid strength from 16mg to 11mg. So, thanks to the Puresmoker USBpass, I have already been able to cut my eliquid strength by over 50% while enjoying a far superior vaping experience.

- Flavor is incredible. While Puresmoker's True Menthol has been my almost exclusive vape for a while, I have now started dipping into my collection of eliquids, and am amazed by the mouth-watering intensity of the flavors. Johnson Creek's variety of flavors, which I had long ago abandoned, have been reborn with the USBpass. One example: Peach Cobbler tastes amazingly realistic.

- The USBpass enables the user to take much shorter drags than with a standard DSE 901 PV, and still get all of the aforementioned benefits

- I have observed remarkable consistency in the vaping experience

For comparison purposes, I tried using a standard DSE 901 PV again, and here is a fun fact for all you kids: once you've used a USBpass, there really is no going back.

All told, the Puresmoker USBpass is a home run. I highly recommend it. Thanks, Steve!

In my humble opinion, the next opportunity for engineering advancement is to make a mobile 5V PV like the Prodigy that has a smaller form-factor more akin to the traditional DSE901 or the USBpass (minus the cable).

Great Review Tescela!

I agree with your impressions 100% and just want to reiterate that, I find it incredible how much more pronounced the flavors are on the PT's and the Prodigy's.

The PT's and Prodigys are virtually "Vapin' Twins" where performance is concerned.

IMHO... The development of smaller 5V portable devices is currently restricted by battery size. However, battery technology is rapidly advancing and will likely provide us with a remedy in the next year or two.
My hope is to see Steve introduce an atomizer with the same type of engineered quality that is so evident in His recent offerings.:)

Again, Great review "T"

anyone else using the kennsington power pack and having any problems? I've read earlier in the thread that tescela is using the kennsington.

when i vape my PS passthrough with the kennsington the pack only works for about 15 or so minutes. my other passthroughs last all day. i thought it might be the PS passthrough but after seeing tescela's post thinking it could be my kennsington. curious now ???

justchkn, are you using an 801 adapter or a 901 adapter on your USBpass?

im using a 901 . Its weird. with my other passthroughs, manual and automatic the kennsington works all day and into the next day.

when i hook up the PS passthrough it works for like 15 minutes. push the button and no lights on the pack.

does yours work all day?

Yes, mine works for about a day before I need to recharge. I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems. If this helps, I've found that I need to recharge my Kensington when it falls to three (3) lights. Once it drops to three lights, the USBpass stops working soon thereafter. I suspect that the USBpass pulls a lot more power than other USB PT's. For example, one of my computers automatically shuts down (to prevent damage) any USB port from which I try to use the USBpass.

Here is a quick test to determine if the problem is the USBpass or the Kensington: the 120v charger works as a 1A Wall Plug (i.e., you can plug your USBpass directly into it and vape away). You might want to try vaping through the charger for an extended period of time (with customary breaks to prevent atomizer overheat, of course). If that works, then it would point to the Kensington being the problem, in which case you might want to consider getting a replacement if your Kensington is still under warranty.

I hope this helps...

Do you have the newer model 1.5A output version of the Kensington? Sounds like you may be tripping a thermal overload or something? Have ya tried letting it cool down for 10 minutes before trying it again?

Mine works for a full day on the PT also. Haven't had any issues with it at all....might wanna take advantage of the warranty.

anyway it made it and I like it,been dying to try a 901 with 5 volts I heard alot of people saying the 901 gets to hot but my usb port on the front of my computer only puts out 4.88 volts so Im not getting the burning taste unless I hold the button to long, my APC runs at 5.26 volts and will give the burnt taste pretty quick, but the reduced voltage on my comp seems to be about perfect.looks great, has a nice size to it,for me anyway.vapor is great from it,It is the best thing i have for a 901 so far.I have an SD (sent in for repair)and it was the best thing i had for a 901 untill now the cord on it kinda suprized me its almost as big as the cable going into my tv lol but thats a good thing, shouldnt wear out to soon.not sure what else I can say about it,it works great and I like it,waiting on an 801 adaptor for it,im sure it will be good to.the only concern i have is the cable,is it suposed to spin around freely,im afraid if it gets twisted around to much it cant be good other than that seems real solid, awesome job steve and co.Hope you all get caught up soon so you can get back to normal. Bob

my number was 16445

Hey Vinyl,

Yes, the cable is supposed to spin around. We only recently started pinning the switches, so just be aware if your switch gets slightly off center, you can just give it a little turn and it'll be right back where it belongs :thumb:

hey Tescela thanks for all the input. my passthroughs do work with the charger plug for the kennsington . Both puresmokers and my other ones.
guess i'll be using that when using puresmokers passthrough and watching t.v. . I do like to take the kennsington with me when out and about using my smaller manual passthroughs. the puresmokers passthrough is a little big to take out with me. cant tuck the wire into a pocket like with the other ones i have.

thanks for the input StratOvation. I took out the box my kennsington came in and it says on the side that the output is 1.00A max, input 1.5max. I've only had it for a little over a month. you said in your reply that yours outputs 1.5A max.

my model number is K38021. Could you please post which model yours happens to be. Tescela could you also please post which model yours is too.
thanks for all your help

This may be a bit off-topic, but somewhere along the line this thread turned into "re: kennsington with PS passthrough."

I've just paid to have my name added to the list of those eagerly awaiting the Puresmoker PT (my first PT). [801 adapter] Since I'll be using this primarily on my patio (away from my desktop PC), I'll be plugging it into the wall outlet (via an AC converter).

When I can afford it, I'd like to use the PT with a power pack. But which one? Parked's video review of the PT was with the APC pack. Most of those in this thread have mentioned the Kensington.

What are the pros and cons of each (for the purpose of use with the PT)?

Thanks!

Yes, the 6' USBpass is great with a wall plug, but blows if you are seeking the around-the-house flexibility provided by a Kensington, because there is just too much cable. 2.5' USBpass is what I use with the Kensington.

Mine is a K38021US, so I think we have the same model. According to the box, Max Input is 1.5A and Max Output is 1.0A.

hey DonBoldUser, in another thread Cash told me that he is waiting on several different power packs he ordered for the purpose of seeing which one works best with the passthrough he has made. I suggested maybe a new thread once he's done testing them all out. going to keep an eye out.

anyway i only have the kennsington pack. works great. Lasts for two days with other passthroughs i have. It has a battery meter on it that lights up when you push the button. output is 1amp or 1000ma. In order to use a power pack with a passthrough the output needs to be 1amp or more. It comes with a usb to mini usb cable for charging via usb slot on computer and comes with a wall plug adapter for charging with the usb cable. so you can vape with the passthrough plugged into the wall plug adapter as you stated in your post as this is what you would like to use with your passthrough or you can just charge the pack from the wall with it. I also use mine to charge standard e-cig batteries when i'm out using a usb charger.
It also comes with a 2 year warranty which is great.

I think i might exchang mine using the warranty because i think i'm the only one having trouble with it using the PS passthrough. Other than that I dont really have anything negative to say about the kennsington. Hope this helps. oh, you can also try doine a search on the forum using "kennsington" or "apc" powerpacks

Oh and Tescela mine is a k38021us.

Just a quick follow-up: I know these devices aren't rocket science, but I really like my USBpasses. These things rock.

For anyone interested in using the USBpass with a Kensington, I would recommend asking CaSH to make a 2.5' 20awg version for you (6' of cable is just too long for this purpose).

For those using the USBpass with a USB Wall Plug, I would recommend asking him to make a 7' - 10' 20awg version for you (for this purpose, 6' works in a pinch, but the extra 1 - 4 feet of cable would really increase your flexibility).

With all of the balls that CaSH has up in the air, there's no guarantee that he will accommodate "special orders" like these, but he is usually quite good about helping his customers meet their needs when he can.

One more thing: I've found that I currently prefer the 901 to the 801 when using the USBpasses. Some people prefer the 801 due to the larger cart size, but I drip exclusively, and the flavor seems better on the 901.
