I've had my pro-tank II for about a week and I've gone though about 5 coils. Is this normal? I thought I read somewhere that they should last a week or 2. Could it be that I'm changing flavors too much?

TIA for the help.

What is the reason you're change coils so often?

I don't know the answer. BUT.

I've heard of people getting from 2 days to 1 month from Kanger heads.

I get on average 1 week.... and that is rotating tanks and using different atomizers at home in the evening. So much depends on your liquid, your vaping style, the power of your e-cig, the ability to sense changes in flavour or vape.

I know somebody who gets a month regardless of liquid. He smoked 50 a day for 30 years. With the greatest respect to him and his incredible achievement on quitting smoking, I'm not sure he would notice a small drop in flavour.

I tend to have a look at a coil I consider past it's best. Some are gunked up and coated in horrible yuk. Some are still fairly clean. I found one this morning that looked "as new" so I can only guess it was a bad coil to start with. I remade it with wire and cotton wool.

They should last longer than that. I've got 3 pt 2's and about 10 coils that I swap daily and I'm goin on a month with them. I'll use 3 coils one day and swap them the next day while letting the ones from the day before soak

Soak in what? This is the first clearo I've owned. Everything else has been what came in the starter kit. I'm sorry if I seem dense but what do you mean you switch the 10 coils out daily? Like do you switch with each flavor?

coils should be lasting more that that easily up to a month but if you like fresh coils you will rebuild them about 3 times a week

I haven't tried rebuilding anything yet. Honestly I'm a little intimidated but I really want to try the fogger v3 that was being talked about in another post so I may just put my big girl panties on and dive in.

There isn't much to it just make sure you got the proper tools and watch tons of videos online you should be good :)

I change and throw out when I notice an 'off' flavor or a burnt taste that isn't fixed by turning my battery down or if I notice a big decrease in vapor production that isn't fixed by a fresh battery. When I take them out they look darker and one looked a bit fried even.

I have a friend that has been rebuilding for a long time so I'm going to ask him to show me and tell me what to buy. I'm excited I'm just scared to screw up. I just don't want anything blowing up. lol

Rebuilding is not as easy as some people like to make out. If I rebuild, I take my time and it pays off. :)

I also check and double-check on a multi-meter. I did a nice Protank this morning, but it won't be going on a mechanical mod until I've vaped it a good few times on a mod with short protection.

That's when to change them out, and they get darker. Ballpark, 10-30 ml of e-liquid will gunk them up, depending on what you're vaping and power/voltage settings.

It's definitely worth a try, rebuilding coils isn't just for the money savings, it's about quality control. A properly done hand-wrapped coil and wick assembly blows factory coils out of the water.

Starting out, it's not easy, and can sometimes be frustrating. But with time and patience, you'll get to the point where you can whip out a coil in two minutes with your eyes closed. ;)

I still remember the first one I built succesfully. After about 10 puffs on it, I had an "Ahhhhhhh" moment when the flavor and big cloud of vapor hit me. I had always thought that the whole rebuilding and cotton thing was just over blown hype. It's NOT!! They work so much better that I have had to cut my nic level from 12mg to 3mg. A 1.5 Ω nano coil at 8 watts is vape heaven, IMHO.

My Protank II coils last me months. I have some that are at about 3 months right now and still going fine.

I do as suggested in an earlier post. I have 5 coils total in a rotation, I take the coils out of the Protank daily and put them in a Tuperware container. When I have 3, I soak them in vodka for a few hours - overnight, rinse them with really hot water and let them dry overnight-up to 8 hours-ish.

No dry burns, no alterations to the Protank and whey they are toast, I put them in the "if I ever decide to rebuild a Protank coil" drawer.

Rebuilding coils takes some more supplies and a desire to tinker with stuff. I have never found an alteration that worked 100% of the time and dry burning has always been a waste to me. You can buy a pack of 5 for like $6 plus shipping...............if they go bad, you can just replace them. Some are duds out of the box but maybe I am lucky, I haven't had one of those yet.

EDIT: If you are going to buy coils, buy the legit Kanger coils. They come in a Kanger box and the grommit (the part between the bottom pin and base) is clear-ish. Knock off coils are the root of a lot of people's issues IMO
