Vape or e-cig?

Okay folks, I am having a hard time here. I started vaping about 2-1/2 - 3 years ago. At that time I was using an ecig. (ego, to be exact). Fast forward to today and I am still vaping albeit on some upgraded equipment, which I still call e-cigs. My daughter, otoh, just started vaping a few months ago and is always asking to see my "vape." Took me forever to get that she was talking about my mod! Have we segued into calling the whole shebang a vape? When did that happen? I know I live in a small town (where we use E-CIGS) and she is int he big city where, apparently they use VAPES, but c'mon, we are not really that far away from each other. What do you call you device? Do you ask to see someone's vape or their e-cig? Or do you just say, "Hey, lemme see that..." Inquiring minds want to know!

To me a device is a mod and that's what we refer to them around my area.

I see e-cigs as a device that is designed to look like a cigarette and ego and 510 pens to be a vape pen or vapes or vaporizers or PVs, and then you have mods either regulated or mechanical, me and just about everyone I know except a couple use some sort of mod so we just ask to see or test or check each others mods out.

Wow, so it really is a regional thing it seems! I laughed at her when she called it a vape because to me that is what we DO, not what we USE, lol!

It's just a stigma I prefer not to have. I don't smoke I vape. My device I refer to as a mod.

I think the term vape is becoming more popular, because people are wanting do distance themselves from smokers. i.e. I don't smoke I vape. You also hear PV, for personal vaporizer.

It's semantic, kind of like Pop or Soda. Like other's have said, I vape on a mod, but they are all classified as e-cigarettes.

When i'm looking for my mod, My family understands it's a "PV". like : (Have you seen my da_n PV...)

People in the "know" in vape stores say mods... and the average users at work say e-cigs.

Ha! Yup, has a much bigger sense of urgency when you call it a PV, lol! I do call my MVPs mods but my Buzz Pro (why yes I DO still use my Buzz Pro!!!) is an e-cig to me. I guess I better eat me some owl poo and wise up!

Generally I refer to ecigs as the cig a likes and pvs/mods to anything ego and up. But thats just personal opinion and what truly matters is what keeps you off the cigarettes.

Lots of conversation goes on about the name for vaping. I kind of agree with the blog at the following link. Smokers are looking for something to switch to and e-cigarette and e-smoke appeal to former smokers who are looking for an alternate. I don't care for e-smoke because it's not smoke, but I can see the logic behind calling it that.

I call it my vape. Especially to people who aren't vapers. "Mod" would just confuse them.

I call it a vape or a PV mostly, and I use eGo setups. I call husband's stuff mech mods. For me, e-cig refers to cigalikes only.

The Straight Dope - Fighting Ignorance Since 1973 may give you some crazy answer in a few years.but the best I got is "shut up and listen to me", it wont work but at least you got the glory of age and its your angel, she thinks your a relic but at least you got it, enjoy the fact she still ask you questions of meaning instead of were is your hearing aid.

my family has always called any vaping device I use a vape. But when I'm asking someone else about theirs I'd call it a PV. However many in the general public who refer to my pv call it an ecig (even the REO). And the ones that are totally unfamiliar with ecigarettes or vaping call it my smoking thing.

I generalize... they're all vapes except cigalikes, those to me are ecigs.

I hear different terms... one guy at work calls his ego/ce4 his mod. To me that's like calling a Chevy Volt a Muscle Car... not quite, there buddy.

Another guy I know calls his Provari an ecig... That's like calling his Muscle Car a go cart to me.

I like my converts term. Her PT2/x6 battery is her Puffer.

They're all vapes... it's easier that way

Hahaha, this is true! I do have the glory of age over her. Besides, I brought her into this world, I can take her out! I suppose I will probably call them whatever feels right in the moment. That is pretty much how I roll.
