I've been messing with some ideas and I figured out you could squeeze ejuice covered cotton in tweezers and insert it into a small metal tube and heat the tube around the cotton with a lighter. It works pretty well... like a vape crack pipe
I used the body of a metal pen that I sanded down to remove the coating
Practice? No.. does it work? Yes
You could use a magnifying glass outside on sunny days :)
What kind of metal?

I really have no alternatives except the suggestion to lick a small drop of juice off your hand. It's often recommended for people on long flights and seems to work well for them. Would it work if you are deployed for months aboard a ship? It wouldn't for me and I've been vaping over four years. Being forced back to smoking due to the negligence of others is cruel. I hope the Navy comes to a workable compromise quickly for the sake of our sailors.

Here is a link to a thread in the media section (which has a link to the news story) about the ban. US Navy bans vaping, e-cigs on ships

Not sure why other branches of the military haven't had the same problems or enacted the same ban.

People wanna do something that's banned, it gets done anway.
With jury-rigged contraptions. Gets done with hooch all the time.
Will get done with vapes too. Fermentation is simple to do.
Generating vapor is simple to do.
Ingenuity always finds a workaround.

Jury-rigging is inherently less safe.
I'd say the navy would be better off tolerating regulated mods and saying no to any unregulated hardware...

What about disposable e-cigs like NJoy? An expensive way to go but it does not require electricity. Buying them in bulk would save on cost (relatively). It's not a great vape, but better than being forced back to using cigarettes. NJoy sells them in a 36mg version allowing you to get a nic hit that is comprable to an analog. I hope a reasonable solution can be found or our men and women in blue.

I know many many sailors who vape to quit smoking, and a lot of them are gonna be forced to use analog cigarettes again unlessanyone can find a practical way to vaporize eliquid without electricity.
Anyone have any ideas

Just a thought. They don't require recharging of the battery with electricity. Hope you guys figure something out.

Hard to say without knowing exactly what the reg says, but if the problem is batteries then use a passthrough (the kind with no battery)(Search FT). If no electrical outlet most Seamen have laptops or tablets for usb power. I can't believe even the Navy would have specifically outlawed tanks, but if they did, there are a lot of other atomizers available. This route may not equal a top line vw/vv system but it will work. This might be a better way than 18650s in a hazardous environment anyway.

A usb passthrough mod does contain a battery. All that happens in passthrough is the mod ceases charge of the battery when the fire button is pressed, then resumes charging when released. Under the best circumstances a usb plug will supply all of 2A, too low to fire off most tanks.

The injuries involved mech mods. If the Navy had banned those from the start there would probably be no injuries to talk about. The industry and the community is to blame for not talking about the diifference between mechanical and protected devices.
Yeah...

Great...

Put a bunch of macho knuckleheads together and watch them all swap ego chargers.

Then what do you blame for the INCREASE in fires?

$3.97 Variable Voltage USB Passthrough for E-Cigarette - silver at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
No Battery. It will work at the highest setting on 2 amps but I would not do that on my tablet however at 3.5v I would.

Another thing the Navy should have done already is have a criteria for what chargers are allowed for phones, tablets, music players, etc. A fire in the confined space of a military ship has to be a scary thing. There are already Li batteries on these ships for operations and there are instructions and restrictions for how to have them on board safely. It's not a stretch for the military to look at all the other Li powered devices on their ships and have reasonable safe guards. As soon as everybody involved starts discussing the issues honestly and openly they'll find a way to allow vaping on ships.
