Holy crap SD you really did have it down to a science - quite impressive. I certainly never got that far into it... had little dosh back then
That's amazing though... I've never heard any of that in such detail before (I guess I knew on some level) but really never considered that deeply/scientifically. I'm sure if I were to get back into it, that's where my interests would be today... the analysis and the implementation of the best possible setup. How long ago did you get out of racing? I can imagine you'd miss it given all the efforts put into it - I was just a punk teen driving fast with just enough money to do modest upgrades in relation to what you did - nevertheless Wednesday nights were fast and fun - miss 'em too.
Well the Camaro was smaller and lighter than the Chevelle, was one thing! Yes the Wally(wally Parks originator of NHRA)is a trophy for NHRA Nationals and Divisional events, I won mine at a division 5 event! I ran in the Super Classes which are Super comp, super gas and super street, which are run under an ET index. 8.90, 9.90 and 10.90 and thats sea level standards. So what they do is have an adjusted altitude index and at Bandemere which is at an altitude of 5800 feet aprox that 8.90 is 9.47, the 9.90 becomes 10.53 and the 10.90 is now 11.59 and there are tricky calculations here to determine that and not going to go into that! Running at altitude is quite different than sea level, takes a lot of different jet configurations for carbs, gearing and timing also very important and basically have to run a much leaner combination. So anyway I have had my car run a high 10 seconds on a good air day because what the car see's and what the actually altitude is, is two different things! Use of a weather station is needed and i had one where you can calculate what the car see's! So on a medium day running at 5800 feet the cars thinks it's running at about 8500 feet due to humidity, temp, barometric pressure and actual altitude and a few other factors. So you calculate all of this to find the adjusted altitude of what the car see's and you can get pretty good at this after a while and tune accordingly and thats what i found to be the most fun, to learn how to set everything up and make good consistant runs and having all the right electronics, in the car and other for tuning purposes! Oh yeah and fuel, I used Leaded 102 octane, it all depends on your compression ratio of what to use. If you use to high or low for your ratio, your defeating the purpose of higher or lower octane! WOW, i'd love to be into this again and thats why i love watching racing so much and knowing a lot of what goes into it, very sophysticated!

And like these Nitro cars, they rate them at something like 10,000 HP now and when something goes wrong it's like a nuclear explosion, fun to watch!
