good news....lemme rephrase....GREAT news for sprint customers...the guys behind vodaphone japan bought a 70% stake in the company...and they have really, REALLY deep pockets....they are tired of coming to america and getting "incredibly slow" phone data connections....so they are basically going to come in and overhaul sprint....LTE deployment will probably go into overdrive in the next couple months...and our plans might even drop in price, as vodaphone introduced plans that were equivalent to about $12 a month for cell service in japan....granted, these probably were not smartphone plans...but its an insane price for any type of monthly cell service plan....i think it's a great move...i'm actually excited to see what they will be doing once they take the forefront with the company...which will retain the sprint name

Where are you seeing this news?

I've had numerous amps over the years ranging from single 12" speaker to 4x12 and 8x12 cabs. For the past 4 years or so, I've played a Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 that's a 1x12 open back cab with Sharc processor modeling. That's probably techno speak to most, but it has 12 amp models that are fairly true to the originals, 11 stompboxes, and 11 rack effects built in. All those are controlled by a foot controller that incorporates a wah pedal one one side and a volume pedal on the other. It's kind of a one amp fits all solution for me. I don't use floor effect boxes anymore.

Today, lots of musicians are using their Iphone to download (and pay for) foot controller programming that can be transferred to a specially designed stomp box. That allows them to upgrade and change the entire personality of the stomp box. It's really a god way to keep from paying over $100 for each stompbox you buy. Android hasn't entered that market, but there no reason why not.

Digitech is big on these things. You just pay for and download the pedal programming, hook up your Iphone by cable and transfer the code to the box. It becomes a new pedal with new capabilities.

My Peavey Sanpera II foot controller looks like this and communicates with the amp using MIDI.

Very interesting! The main reasons I like Verizon now is that I can make and receive calls in my house.

Mini review of what mobile services I have tried:

T-Mobile G1 and a Samsung - Good service in the house. Got service only in big cities. Chicago was great, small towns, bad.

AT&T iPhone - Lost service in my house, my elevator and my garage. Good service most anywhere but my house.

Verizon iPhone - Lost service in my house, my elevator and my garage.

Verizon - two different Samsung phones - Great service in my house, my elevator, and my garage. Great service in small towns and big cities.

So for now, I like Verizon. I don't drop calls, and I can use it when I travel by train around the country and get service most everywhere.

If Sprint beats Verizon for that, I'll change over.

I've had AT&T and Verizon and it does depend on where you live. AT&T was full bars on the high side of our neighborhood road in a hilly section and 1 to 0 bars at our house. AT&T's coverage map that allows zooming in to the street level actually does reflect that situation.

Verizon is 2 to 3 bars in our house and full signal most everywhere we go, including metal buildings in high traffic areas. Looking at the nationwide coverage maps for AT&T, SPRINT, and VERIZON reveals lots of heavy and light areas across the nation.

We need competition to lower prices in America. One of the reasons for Verizion's high rates is due to their heavy coverage. It's wither high prices or weak signal. Most people will pay the price to be able to travel and still use their phone. Japan updating Sprint's network is a good thing. It will make the big guys get off their butts and install some towers.

On Verizon's 4G service, I get 11mbps to 21 mbps. That's 2 to 3 times the speed of my AT&T 6mbps extreme DSL service. With the $47 a month I pay AT&T for DSL, I could buy some more gigabytes and install a hotspot in the house instead of using a wireless router and modem.

there ya go, softbank is the parent company and brainchild behind vodaphone, who was struggling in japan...then they turned it around...read the article....good read....especially if you're a sprint subscriber

Cool, Tried to find an article on it last night with little luck. Was going to look again today, but you saved me the effort. :) My family has been with Sprint since around 2001. Will need to watch this closely. Especially since mom can upgrade in November, and I in December.

I don't get why other countries mobile service is so much better than ours. I mean, I know they don't have good land lines in a lot of countries, but why aren't we keeping up with the technology?

Part of it has to do with the sheer size of the US' infrastructure. A country like Germany is about the size of the state of Georgia. (Hrm, being an avid Fark.com reader, I suppose I should have done my size comparison in Rhode Island Units, but ah well)

You have an elevator in your house?!?! Thats way cool! I am full time in a wheelchair and if I had the money for this it would make buying a home much easier!

America had internet first. Our backbone used version 1 hardware. As it expanded to other nations they bought the latest hardware and got the higher bandwidth. That's one reason. The other is that our internet access is controlled and limited by private enterprise to make the highest profit. If you want a T3 line, you can get super speed for an astronomical price. Otherwise, we'll sell you a trickle for a premium rate. When the big commercial guys are in heavy usage, home internet gets throttled. They service the high end accounts with the fastest routes.

When I was in the network lab at Central Ga Technical College, the first thing I noticed was that the internet browser response was instant. You click and it appears with a snap. I asked the instructor about it and she told me that they were on a statewide internet link through state government that was outrageously fast. Lag was non-existent and latency was so low as to be almost nothing. You'd download a file from a web site and it was like taking a picture. The thermometer was gone almost as it began, like you were loading a file from a hard drive.

so all my other pvs feel kinda....dinky now...it's strange

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

I was about to post that to you and then I read this post! Yes, all other PV's will feel like lightweights the more you vape your Provari. The Provari is on the heavy, hefty side, but that will become normal and every thing else will feel like it's lightweight and dinky. Stainless Steel vs aluminum. Aluminum is good for flashlights maybe, but SS makes a PV last a lifetime.

I'm not sure if it's still PeachNet. The instructor told us that they had created a new system using a faster provider. It's designed to provide high def video access to classrooms. She said that it was insanely fast and was routed through huge data links at the backbone level. It was probably overbuilt for future expansion.

My first internet exposure was through GEnie back around the first couple of years of the 90s. It was text mode and the first browsers were being released about that time. Before Netscape, compuserve software was it for me. At that time, I was proud to eventually own a 9600 baud modem for dialup. We've come a long way.
