Jelly Bean invaded my Galaxy Nexus this morning. It's up and running and feels faster. I'm still discovering the differences. Here's an overview for those who expect it to appear on their phone. The voice search (SIRI clone) works very well. I tapped the mic icon and said "Where am I?" It popped up maps with a GPS location icon right on top of where my house is. Cool. The scroll functions are super quick and the phone is a little snappier, not that it wasn't really fast before.

Google Now is great, wait till you start seeing it get "intuitive".
It starts realizing places you go often, especially work, and mine started updating with cards (you'll know what these are when you get JB) with traffic for my commute home!

Here's a comparison of Siri vs Google Now:

Not to mention it gives you updates as soon as you search a place with maps. I noticed this the other day when I searched a restaurant...the technology is simply better than integration than the"innovators"apple.

Sandy, I know you've mentioned it but what phone model do you have?

I've yet to root a phone that didn't require a wipe for it to take effect. Most likely, you'll be starting from scratch once you root.

CM10 on the S3 is amazingly smooth. There are a couple small quirks, but it sure beats the hell out of TouchWiz.

Also meant to say... T-Mobile is offering their nationwide-unlimited plan for $30 - $5 cheaper than the 5GB plan. The only catch is no tethering. Of course, that's a non-issue if you're running a rooted ROM.

So you can tether for free with a rooted rom? I have the Verizon S3 but havent rooted it yet.

With Cyanogen, it's built in. However, there are tethering apps for any rooted phone. As long as you're not using the provider's tethering app, they have no way to know you're using the wireless for that purpose.

That could present an ethical dilemma for some, but we won't get into that. :)

I have a Samsung Droid Charge on Verizon. I had T-Mobile - it worked fantastic in Chicago, but when I take my cross-country train trips, the only one that has worked in podunk has been Verizon.

Starting from scratch sounds painful. I LOVE my apps that I use every day and I have them set up just right, as just right as mama bear's porridge!

If you are just looking for root, you do not have to wipe your data.
Here's a guide and a video. If this looks like a foreign language....it is, and needs to be studied before you try!

I rooted and installed clorkworkmod the first time with mac. Its mostly copying crap into console if I remember. Seems more complicated then it really is. Needless to say from the second on up I threw windows on ny mac just got one click odin

Sent from the future... Left in the past..

So I want to use clockworkmod? Then what?

(My kid used to work at VMware - They developed something called Fusion so you could run windows on Mac - maybe I need to do that????)

I just posted on Droid Forums asking for help with this. Fingers crossed

Good peeps over there for the most part. Yeah Macs don't like Android software, they make it hard. :glare:
Yes you will need a custom recovery like CWM, and you will gain root using that. Follow instructions to a T, and you'll be fine.
If you get in trouble, you can always Odin back to stock, but you will lose only data. No bricks, no worries!

Looks like you're right.
Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't think I had to wipe mine just to gain root. One of the benefits of Odin I guess. :)

That being said, it's almost pointless to root if you're going to leave the stock ROM. So once you're rooted, get Titanium Backup (pay for it, it's worth every penny) and then you can load any ROM you want and restore your apps to the way you have them now.

This is all way too confusing for me :(

Outside of tethering, I agree 100%. Take full advantage of root access. TiBu and Root Explorer are must haves.

It is at first. It's exactly like vaping though! It seems like a headache when you first look into it, but once you sit down, read and research, you start to get the hang of it. Don't dive in and start clicking random buttons, don't give up either!
