The medical sites say that it can take 6 to 8 months, even longer to appreciate most of the healing effects of stopping smoking, although there are benefits from day one. To get to the level of non-smoker in terms of your heart and lungs equaling someone who never smoked, it's projected at 15 years. Lung function improvement can take varying lengths of time depending on the condition of your lungs when you quit.

I've vaped for 2 1/2 years and only quit my last half pack of cigs a day 6 months ago. I smoked 2 PAD for 40 years. I'm still experiencing allergenic symptoms that come and go. It's like my lungs were deadened to allergies prior to stopping smoking. Now, when others complain about seasonal respiratory distress I have it, too. I'm more attractive to mosquitoes, also!

From: Stop Smoking Recovery Timetable

1 to 9 months
Any smoking related sinus congestion, fatigue or shortness of breath have decreased. Cilia have regrown in your lungs thereby increasing their ability to handle mucus, keep your lungs clean, and reduce infections. Your body's overall energy has increased.

I'm not a doctor, either. I'm just good at Googling. ;)

It sounds like you may be sensitive to VG. If the Nport is Dekang, which is 100% PG, then that's most likely it. I have VG sensitivity, where if I use stuff with a high VG content for a while my lungs feel like they're filled up with phlegm, my throat feels like it's coated in phlegm too, and I am constantly coughing up crap as if I were still a smoker. If the NPort you have is not Dekang, and is actually 100%VG than like others said, you likely are PG sensitive. The number one juice i've wanted to try for as long as I can remember is Boba's Bounty but I can't vape any AVE liquids due to my VG sensitivity. :(

Dekang can be many mix levels. My Dekang juices from Madvapes are 80pg/20vg. If you check with various venders, you'll find all sorts of mix ratios. Most are 100% PG down to 50/50. From the direct China sites, you get to pick the mix, but have to order large qualities at a time.

Being a carto user, I have to stay on the high side of PG in the mix or a carto is stopped up by the next day. I ordered some Candy Cane juice (peppermint) last Christmas that was so high in VG that I still have a bottle and a half left. It's drip tip only and you have to clean the drip tip daily. Some people who use 100% VG thin it with water and/or pure grain alcohol (PGA). They seem to do fine with cartos and tanks. I prefer a high PG content for the taste factor.

I had this same feeling with only 1 particular eliquid vendor, I have tried many different vg/pg mixes and only this 1 juice from a particular vendor. Theres 2 different types of vg and the medical grade I think is what caused the heavy lung feeling for me.
There is an ingredient in some vendor's juices that does this to me. I can taste it, it is perfumey and chemically, and it gives me a thick, sore throat. It surprised me at first to pin it down to that ingredient, but if I stay away from it I am just fine. I generally find that if it is in one of their juices, it may be in others as well so am thinking it is an additive of some sort. Since I do some simple DIY, and have tried various PG/VG mixes I know it isn't either of those.

Now if I could just figure out what it is I could be sure to stay away from it. So, my question is: do ALL juices do this? Or do you find that a different vendor's product doesn't cause this?

Sometimes you get that heavy feeling and switch to another mix and it goes away. Later, you get it again, switch back and it goes away again. I wonder sometimes if it isn't just outside influences that are at play or dryness that is alleviated by drinking more water. If you are having trouble clearing your throat, it's probably dehydration.

Fall leaf changes (tree pollen) are affecting me slightly right now. I drink more water and then realize why I felt stopped up in the chest after I thin the secretions and clear it all. I've thought about not vaping for a couple of weeks just for a comparison. Then, I say Nah, it'll clear up ... and it does.

For 2 weeks now I have been experiencing flem not in my throat, but lower down in my esophagus. If I breath hard or take a deep breath I cough. I have also been experiencing a rough time taking but the very smallest of hits of vapor in the morning without coughing, almost like when I smoked too much the night before. I only vape about 2 1/2 mil a day, it has me really wondering what is going on!

I've noticed the past few days that I get a really thick feeling in my throat, and my lungs are start to feel heavy. I got COPD so this is a major concern for me. I can still breath ok but they all feel like they been coated with something I can't get rid of. I'm vaping different ratios of pg and vg. 50/50, 60/40, 70/30. pg being the first number. I know that pg is in my rescue inhalers so I'm not really sure what's going on. I really don't get this feeling from the Nport I use.(no idea of ratio of it cause I got it from a local brick and mortar)
Any ideas? I got a lot of juice coming and it's all different ratios of mix. I vape between 18mg and 28mg.[/QUO

I have read if you have any kind of serious lung problems you should not vap,it will cause trouble, ill try to dig out the info,my advice is to stop vaping NOW.

Heres some info,i cant find specific article i mentioned but maybe this will be helpful, just take it easy on the vaping til you know more.
