I am in the same situation.. Smoked for 20+ years.. quit 3 years ago and wanted my mother to quit. I purchased her a Precise 10440 and an Ego. She never really converted and I started vaping myself.

There's no denying for most of us the positive health benefits of vaping over smoking. But it's also hard to deny the "hobby" aspects than many of us find as well... like trying different flavors, collecting different devices, building mods, mixing our own liquids, etc. Smoking cigarettes is boring by comparison![]()
Good point. OTOH, for lots of people our 'hobbies' themselves are killing us, and for some of us, smoking, along with its assorted paraphernalia, was certainly a hobby. While I mostly smoked cigarettes for convenience I also have a collection of pipes, and occasionally enjoyed a fine cigar. At one time I was into exceptional liquors. All these things, I think, qualified as "hobbies" for me, and every one of them was killing me in its own good time.
My point is, if a deadly hobby can be replaced with a non-deadly one that is a good thing. I think Life is supposed to be fun; I *don't think* everything that's fun is supposed to be in Life.

I definitely started as a hobby, coming from smoking hookah and such. I have got to say that I enjoy this even more. You don't have to spend 10-15 minutes setting up and cleaning a hookah haha. Plus it tastes better!
I had a psychologist once tell me that he had a theory about smokers. He said that, in his experience, smokers usually carried their stress in their chest and that smoking was a way to feel in control of their stress. He did not discount the addictive nature, but I have to agree that there is something comforting about the feeling that comes with the inhalation of smoke and the same with the vapor. I think this may be why so many can use the e-cig where other alternatives to smoking fail. As far as it being a hobby possibly some non-smokers get the same pleasurable feeling from that inhale. 0 percent nic juice is available. Maybe that is why. All the pleasure without the negative effects.
Now that's interesting, Bugs! For years as a smoker (& drinker & too many other things I try to avoid now) I've had a theory about psychologists .....![]()

I think that although science indicates that vaping with nicotine is about as harmful as a caffeine addiction that the eventual goal of all of us vapers should be to achieve freedom from nicotine dependence. With that accomplished and using 0mg e-juice our next goal should be to rid ourselves of the mental need to vape since the physical one is no longer an issue. That said, if vaping is keeping you from smoking analogs then vape is what we must do. My grandfather, when I told him I was quitting, confided in me that he had once chewed and smoked and that he quit cold turkey because "he never wanted to be a slave to any man". These words are profound. I hope that they can inspire you as much as they have inspired me. At the end of the day it is your life. It's your gift to do with as you please.
Addiction as such doesn't really bother me much. It's when the addiction is harmful to someone that it's a fault.I think that although science indicates that vaping with nicotine is about as harmful as a caffeine addiction that the eventual goal of all of us vapers should be to achieve freedom from nicotine dependence. Nicotine isn't a carcinogen, isn't anything like the horned, cloven-hoofed beast the anti-smoking Nazi regime would have people believe. But it is a vasoconstrictor, and it's very addictive. At the end of the day, it isn't good for you.
For my own part, I don't have a problem with that. Life is short, simple pleasures fewand you can plausibly argue the case for counting nicotine one among and embracing it, even if it shaves minutes off the back end of your life.
Or so I do argue, for my own purposes.
If, however, you truly vape only for recreational purposes, to "...experience flavors," you sound like a good candidate for zero-nic, zero harm vaping.
