I work in an office doing software support, and there are no other vapers as far as I know, the few who have seen me vape outside are aware of what vaping is now, but I have never even bothered to ask if it would be allowed for me to vape at my desk, honestly I don't eel like going through the explanation of what vaping is, I am ok with going downstairs and outside to vape.

I vape away at the office. Didn't ask the boss when I started, but waited for him to see me doing it. Knew he wouldn't care. He caught on to the fact that I was vaping, not from seeing me vape, but from not smelling tobacco on me everyday. Asked me about it, told him that I had switched, and he was more than happy to let me vape on in the office. Mean fewer smoke breaks, and more productivity in his eyes, plus my doc has classified me as a non smoker, meaning in another 3 months my insurance rate (which the company pays 100% of) will drop. He even pushed me to try and introduce the few other smokers at the office to vaping. (I have had limited success in this, none of them have completely given up analogs).

At customer sites (I am a network analyst, so I am often at clients) I only vape when I know they have a policy that permits it. One of my customers is a cigarette company that still allows smoking indoors. Oddly, they have given me the hardest time about it, jokingly calling me a traitor. lol I do stealth vape in restrooms in sites that don't allow or frown on the practice of vaping. I keep several cards with me from different sites that I order supplies from that explain what vaping is. When someone asks me about it, I explain it, and drop a card with them.

I have an office and since I'm the "boss" I vape away all day. :). I have a dept of 14 with 4 smokers - I've shown them my new setup (provari with a 3.5 dct tank) and have shown them a few lower cost options as well. I've told them they can happily vape in their cubes if they decided to switch. One took me up on it instantly...they others still go out and freeze their azzes off but I think they are starting to cave. ;)

What are your experiences with being allowed to vape at work? I'm in manufacturing, and refrained from vaping at my desk during the day, but would vape on the shop floor. Nobody had a problem for about a week and a half, then the VP of operations got on my case because it "looked like I was smoking" (I stopped myself from saying he looked like he was "being a jack-wagon").

Anyways, we have no company policy on this, and I’ve been invited to a meeting with the company president this week to present while I believe vaping should be allowed in the shop.

My points will be:

  1. There is no second-hand risk associated with vaping (I could use some data to back this up)

  1. Vaping lowers health risk compared to smoking, better health for employees can mean lowered absenteeism and potentially lower health care cost.

  1. Vaping on the shop floor, compared to vaping in the smoking area, will mean increased productivity (no “smoke” breaks)

  1. Those attempting to quit smoking with vaping should not be forced to subject themselves to second hand smoke to vape.

I eagerly welcome any input for other ideas I can present.

Thanks.

I wish you much luck with this.. It's great to have the opportunity to set pro vaping policy.

I'm a Warehouse Mgr. for an online retailer. I switched to vaping only about 6 wks. ago & I was vaping freely at my desk & throughout the warehouse until one of my staff (who's workstation is close to my desk) complained that it's been giving him migraines. I think it's in his head but that's another story. I step away for my desk to vape as a coutesy to him, usually in another section of the warehouse. Anyway, I have yet to tell my boss.. my strategy is to keep doing it until it comes up. That way I'll be able to say "I've been doing this for X number of months & nobody from the the office has even noticed". I keep my PV out openly on my desk, to show I'm not "hiding" anything.

hi
the organisation i work for has banned ecigs being used in the building and i have to vape outside in the smoking area with smokers, i think most of my bosses are non smokers and do not understand the difference and also that they do not want to give permission on the use of ecigs in case of litigation ie being sued because they let us do something that may or may not cause us harm, i think this is because ecig use here is fairly new and they may change their minds! good luck in your quest, i would crack on with the second hand smoke issue as that is a widely known risk, do any of your colleagues vape? could you not investigate developing a policy on their use?

I work for a Technology Company that deals with Multi Million Dollar Contracts and Clients alike. We are fortunate that all of our superiors CEO, PRES, VP all started from the bottom and worked their way up. Most of them were smoking analogs at one time or another. There are 4/5 of us that now Vape and have quit analogs all together. We are fortunate that we are allowed to Vape away at our desks in our offices and cubicles. We do however respect our clients.

When Clients and or Vendors come to the facility we keep it outside or behind closed doors as not to distract anyone.

Most of the people here are engineers in one form or another and are simply curious about the whole thing.

Guess we got lucky.

I'm in the Army (at a 'desk' job, so I'm indoors during most workdays unless I am in Afghanistan lol)... I use smaller KR808 style cig-a-likes for vaping at work, but I also have my own office. The door is open and I don't really make any attempt to hide it, but I also am not pumping out huge clouds all day. My boss and his boss have both seen my e-cigs laying out on my desk when they have come in and they asked what they were. I explain that it helped me quit smoking and also my two-mile run time has improved by over two minutes since I took up vaping last summer, which is met with a positive reaction, although smoking in general and anything that looks like it is generally frowned upon in the military these days. Still, nobody has told me not to so I vape on. If they only saw the setup I have at home ... they'd probably think I was a drug addict (and I am! love my 24mg juice!)

I work in a professional office type setting and usually vape at my desk without any issues (eGo-VV with 3.5mL DCT). Some people dip at their desk (like I did before I finally decided to quit and take up vaping) and no one from our office or other offices have said anything. There are two other people who vape at their desk and sometimes at meetings (they use devices from V2, or similar, which don't really produce a lot of vapor), I however do not. I think as long as you're not blowing clouds and/or being distracting, you should be left alone.

OP, I would think the 'no smoke breaks = more time being productive' would be a major selling point, reenforced with the health related info...just my thoughts

i work for Liberty Mutual insurance and they are very 'Corporate'

I've been blowing the vape under my desk lol for past week .. I doubt its encouraged, but i also doubt there is anything in the employee hand book banning it at this point.

i'm going to keep doing it on the down low, because I'm sure someone will give me a hard time about it..

what Corporate doesnt know won't hurt them :)

I work in a cube farm office and though my nearest coworkers know I vape, I don't do it at my desk. I don't think its right blowing plumes of vapor around me. I do sit behind the copier/fax so I know I would be constantly asked about it, not to mention my one of my cubemates also gets migraines, like one of the other posters and complains if I have showered with Irish Springs in the morning. Don't get me wrong I do vape when no one is around, but I keep it stealth. Another cubemate is a PAD smoker and I've been trying to get her interested in ecigs, she likes all my mods though shes had the same disposable I bought her on her desk for 3 months. One of the higher ups also heard about my ecigs and asked if I could pick him up some disposables. Same story here, I don't think hes even opened it, but he is on the older side so he'll get around to it when he gets around to it.

My job explicitly states anything tobacco related on the job can get me instantaneously fired unless a family states their personal approval often in a formal letter of such permission

ROFL. That cracks me up. I wish that was an option for me though. I work for the government and the Governor has explicitly forbidden all e-cigarette usage on state property.
