Vaping convert

I have given up smoking cigarettes exactly a week ago. Without any intent to do so, I tried "vaping" from an e-cigarette and that did it for me. I do not have a need, desire, urge to smoke cigarettes any more. Oh, I tried to light one up a few (5?) times since then, but I found that I prefer my e-cig. This, after 44 years of every-single-day smoking cigarettes. Not trying to quit even once, because I was chicken to do so. With the e-cig, I did not have to even *try* - I just prefer it.
Yes, I am "vaping"/inhaling juices containing relatively small amounts of nicotine (= the main addictive chemical of cigarette smoking), but I am not inhaling the other hundreds' of nasty things present in cigarettes (tar, CO2, etc.). This is just nicotine in vapour plus flavours. And speaking of flavours, that's where it gets really INTERESTING. On recommendation, I tried Green Apple flavour juice! And it is WOW! The Marlborough-like juice is OK, but I am eager to try the Mango flavour sitting there on the shelf.
My body is reacting to this (I guess, as a withdrawal reaction), by overheating, but it's been a very hot summer this year anyway. Overall, the body reaction is far less unpleasant than what I would have expected.
I love this vaping lifestyle. I can suck on my e-cig in the office whenever I feel like; and in the car too, without worrying about the ashes being blown all around. It is all just vapour!
Oh yeah, and it is *far* cheaper than regular ("analog") cigarettes in Ontario, Canada. And a lot more fun too.

What strength vape juice are you using? I use 18mg to 24mg varieties; you wouldn't be having those nicotine withdrawals if you use a more appropriate strength. If you smoke as much as you said you did, then settle in on 8mg vaping, then I think it's a mistake. you will be hyper-vaping to get the nicotine you crave.
I repeat-hit my unit with 24mg in it, then put it down for a while because I've gotten all the nicotine I can handle.
You should start with a higher mg fluid, then work your way down to what suits you.

Congrats on the conversion ;) Each of us has our own story, each of us different gear, each body reacts differently to the cessation of inhaling all those toxins found in cigarettes. As long as you feel good and don't get antsy, vape the level you have. If you start getting antsy you might want to pick up your (now favorite) juice in a higher nic level. Be aware of over nicing, usually headaches, queasy stomach for me. When that occurs you need to lay off for a bit. If it is happening a lot you may need either a higher nic level juice so you vape less often, or a lower nic level so you can still have the hand to mouth and inhaling motions which are so important to many. Each of us is different. What works for you may not work for others, and vice versa.

As your taste buds reawaken you might find, as many have, that the juice that tastes awesome now isn't quite so good later on. It's part of the changes your system goes through. Also if you limit yourself to one or two flavors your taste buds may begin to not taste them at all. Change off to something else until you can taste the first ones again. The switch to vaping from smoking is a journey, an educational opportunity, and a real gift to your body ;)

I've been vaping a year and a half and new things present themselves on a regular basis ;)

Vape on ;)

Thanks everybody for advice and words of encouragement. This is a wonderful community!
I was a full strength cigarettes smoker. I am using 18mg nic juices. I was actually worried that I may be "overdosing" on nicotine with it, because I love sucking on my e-cig so much :) But reading the beginners' guide here at ECF tells me that nicotine absorption via vaping is much less than via smoking. So, I attribute my body's reaction to some kind of detoxing affects. I do not feel antsy like I used to when I did not have time for a few puffs from analog cig between two meetings before. I am just taking is easy to let the body settled in this new mode. New sensations can be a bit scary - hopefully just because I am venturing into an unknown territory.
Anyways, thanks again for caring and advice. I am so happy to be part of this community and I hope that I will be able to reciprocicate.

Congrats! There are quite a few here who tried vaping and didn't intend to quit. Some have surprised themselves when they realized they had quit the analogs. Just wait till your taste and smell come back, now thereare some new sensations! My boss said since I quit smoking my seasoning in the food greatly improved, before I had a tendency to under season, thankfully it wasn't overseasoning or I might have been fired lol

Yeah, I've read in the Beginners' Instructions (Yes, that's me, always reading all possible manuals and instructions :p) that vaping dehydrates - and it puzzles me. How come? Obviously the vapour we ingest is not all water, but I would think that we are getting more water in this way than from the smoke from analogs. Hah, something else to study ;)

I cleaned my oldest (9 days) eGo-T atty using the soda bicarbona + vinegar method that I found in the "Maintenance" forum today. And I did not go through any overnight drying, as suggested in some posts, because I did not see the point of it. I just dry burned it a few times, dropped a bit of e-liquid into it, puffed on it a few times without the carto inserted, and started using it right away. There was a little bit of lingering burned taste for a few minutes, but that was it. I still have to figure out why so many people suggest drying it overnight - even for several days!
I also liked another suggestion - using the ultrasonic jewellery cleaner. I have to explore that too.

Oh, so much studying and exploring ahead! Vaping life's good !!!
And thanks for all the advice!

Not everyone makes the change to vaping the same way, as there are different aspects to smoking we are addicted too, while I won't disagree the OP may prefer a higher nic lvl, it does not mean they won't go through any withdraws just by upping it.

Many have had to change over to WTA juices for that very reason.

Qetro, congrats and welcome to ECF

Nice! I was like that too. My first hit, I was like "yeah, this is gonna work!" Then I got into dessert flavors, lost a ton of weight, and it was REALLY on! Luckily, you actually prefer vaping to smoking, so the transition will be a piece of cake for you! :)

Don't worry too much about the withdrawals. They don't really last that long anyway. You can up your nic if you want to (I started with 12mg coming from VS Slims Menthol Lights 120s), but if you're OK at keeping it low, then keep it low - remember, you can vape all you want now! ;) This nic delivery system is quite a bit slower, so you may have to vape a little bit more than you smoked, just to keep a steady supply flowing. Drink lots of water - the PG/VG base of the liquid will dehydrate you like crazy! It'll help keep you cool too. And listen to your body. Feel jittery? Just cut back a little. Feel sleepy all the time? Vape a little bit more or up your nic strength a little. Here's me: I like chain-vaping, so I fought through withdrawals and lowered my nic. Down to 6 now. And like you, I can go for crazy long periods without vaping and not get cranky or out of it. When I was smoking, it was maybe 2 hours tops.

Here's a really good thread for info: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/health-safety-e-smoking/3305-list-symptoms-when-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html

Congrats, and welcome! :thumb:

ps: people like their atties/cartos dry because water interferes with the PG/VG base and lowers performance. If you have cartos that are poly-filled, the drying time after cleaning can be a really long time! There may be a tiny bit of water in the liquid, but that's not mainly what it is...;)

EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thanks a bunch. I've got a lot of reading to do, that's for sure - 101 pages!
I would like to believe that my symptoms are a result of body detoxing itself, rather than withdrawal ones. And that it will all pass relatively soon. Nothing too drastic.
I'll play with it and try a little lower nicotine level with my next order. I've got my current e-liquids all 18mg, so I will step it down one notch and see what it does with my body.
There were suggestions to lower the nic dose when experiencing some of the symptoms that I have at that Health/Safety discussion - that people may be overdosing on nicotine while vaping. I've gone through about 23ml of e-liquid (18mg) over 10 days. Is that about average, or am I overdoing it?

I just regret that I haven't discovered yet a "vaping boutique shop" here in Toronto (I don't thing they are allowed here), where I could check out all kinds of e-liquids and pick one small bottle at a time to try - rather than ordering it over the web.

Cheers all you good souls.

Welcome qetro. You're story sounds so like mine. I too have become a convert, smoking half the time you have but I ame totally sold on this. Tonight has been a drinking night too and my new PV has proven I can make it through a beer session without cigarettes.

I also was speaking to my mother earlier this evening, she has been a nurse for many years so I decided to tell her of my attempt to stop smoking. When I told her of the e-cigarettes she surprisingly said "Oh yeah, "whats his name" uses those and he is 75 and smoked for 60 years". Again I'm sold, it seems like such a miracle something like this has came our way.
