Well that's just ignorant. There was at no time anything stating it was "against the rules" and I had no idea that it would set off a fire alarm seeing as how there's no smoke involved. If you'd be so kind and go back to bed, try and get up on the right side next time. ;)

    NO, that's "informed".
There are numerous threads here on ecf about vaping & hotels. There are also many threads on here about to much vapor & fire alarms.

It's always nice to ASK if it will be OK.
Also, I've never been in a hotel room that didn't have a window.

Sorry to hear about your experience, but I have heard about smoke alarms can be tripped off by vapors, smoke doesn't necessarily have to be a factor to set one off. I read about this in an article some time back about people vaping on airplanes and I heard that you could BUT be very discrete about it as they said it can trip off smoke detectors and I didn't know that, so I guess you have to do stealth vaping and produce little to hardly no smoke, but it sounds like its not worth the effort.

I've always had a window too, whether or not it opened....?

Most of the ones I have been in do not open. I think due to the fact they don't want anyone jumping out...or getting in.

When I do find a room with a window that opens, I am truly surprised and happy! Most of the time those only have a very small opening, so that people cannot open them up far enough to either jump or get in. They have a guard that won't let the window get opened far enough for even a child's arm or body or head to get through. Mostly only about 2-3 inches or so.

A couple of years back I was having surgery yo remove my gall bladder. I was vaping in my room a few minutes before the surgeon came in to do the pre-op review with me. He walked in an exclaimed "what does it smell of candy floss in here?" rather brusquely. I just shrugged my shoulders.

Kinda silly the whole thing IMO first off being charged for the false alarm is just GRRRRRRR Our Taxes pay for their salary. Just more gooberment BS!
Next Im Glad it was you OP and not me cause if the Fireman would of got snotty with me Id of got just as snoty back. Certain jobs and titles get my respect but the person holding the position can lose it very quickly!
A simple quick education of your mistake would of been sufficient.

Part of a travellers vape kit should include plastic or vinyl shower caps. These are placed over the detector so you can vape in a nonsmoking room.

You, Mr. Bruce, deserve to be member of the year here on ECF. Seriously this is so useful. I was just staying in a hotel using a cigalike because of the fire alarms. :(

Save yourself the embarrassment and look up the laws, ask an employee about rules involving vaping, and for the love of God and all that is holy, don't vape near a smoke detector.
    Do you blow clouds?

For six years now I have vaped in every imaginable place imaginable.
I've never set off any smoke detectors though.

the neighbors know supper's almost ready when they hear the alarms *lol* after their first worried dash to the house when we first moved in.
My wife sets off the alarm every time she cooks breakfast sausage.
Unless she remembers to turn on the vent, open a window, and open the door to the garage.

It just happened again this morning.
    My dog REALLY hates that.

#2 if your vaping is setting off fire alarms ... that's your fault.
Yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking.

Umm, sort of. I've known quite a few firemen in my life, both volunteer and paid. False alarms cut into both their time and operational budget. Waste MY time and/or money, I'm gonna be a little steamed. And as someone that's spent a good portion of their adult life being on call for emergencies 24/7/365, I know I don't like being pulled out of bed or away from family to begin with. Finding out it's for a non-issue only makes it worse.
