Vaping in public

I'm pretty extroverted, and in general don't really care what people think about me- so I vape pretty much where ever I like. In confined spaces, the movies, or in large crowds inside I'm discreet about it, but no one has ever bothered me.

For folks not vaping in restaurants....you're missing out! I always carry a spare mouthpiece, and if the restaurant is slow I vape pretty openly after explaining to the server what it is. A lot of food service workers smoke, and they're really excited to hear about it, and give it a try. A few have even bought me drinks

I look at it as a public service, and agree that smokers are generally the most critical of it. Pretty much everyone at least knows a smoker- so anything that can help a friend or love one is pretty welcome. Most people are cool with it.

I've been vaping about a week now, and it's nice to be able to vape inside instead of having to go outside in 100° weather! I haven't really gone anywhere that I'd be vaping in a place where smoking isn't allowed, but I'd like to think that I'd feel comfortable vaping anywhere.

After smoking about three packs a day for over fifty years, I switched to vaping and never looked back. From day one I have vaped just about everywhere. I vape in Walmart, hospitals, doctors offices, grocery stores, and yes restaurants without ever having asked permission. I wouldn't think of asking permission. That is like admitting that it might be as bad as smoke. I had one lady in the hospital to ask me if it was something that helped asthma. I told her no it was an alternative to smoking. I asked her if it bothered her, she said no, she was hoping it was something that would help her asthma. I was sitting with one chair between us. I told her I would take it outside if it did. But she was just fascinated and amazed at my PV. I have had a few doctors in the hospital shake their heads and grin, but no one has ever ask me to stop. One nurse was about to once before she realized it wasn't smoke, but when she got a good look at it, she laughed and waved me on.

I vaped for the first time in a bar this weekend. needless to say, it got tons of attention. and it was a conversation starter for a girl I ended up going home with

I openly vape anywhere smoking is allowed. Like the OP I tend to shy away from vaping inside places like restaurants. One person mentioned here that you won't get questioned if you act like there's nothing wrong with what you are doing. That same person mentioned that when vaping in a restaurant they exhale under the table, lol. IMO having to duck under the table is a bit odd.

I personally have never had anybody in public question me. To be honest I don't believe anybody has even noticed that I'm vaping. They just continue on their merry way, oblivious in their own little world. The only time I've ever been asked about it is once when a couple of college kids knocked on my door doing a survey for one of their classes. I opened the door with an eGo in my hand. I think he thought it was some kind of taser or something at first, lol. I can't help but wonder how he would have reacted if I had been holding my REO.

Funny you should mention that. Last night I was at a restaurant and as is my custom, I asked. The waitress got the manager and he came over and showed me his cheap m401 knock off. I'm afraid I laughed and said it was junk. He knew that already but, he got a lot of info from me and gave me his email address so I could send him more which I did.

You, I don't want to use anything in public that doesn't look like a cigarette, types need to read this. He told me I could use it as long as no one complained. There had been a guy at the bar the night before vaping a cigarette sized PV with a red LED. The customers complained about the guy smoking at the bar. I had my homemade bottom feeding box mod. No one would ever mistake it for a cigarette. I vaped all I wanted. No one complained.

When we left they bagged up our leftovers and he threw in a free desert.

I'm new to vaping, but last night I decided to go have a few drinks at a restaurant my niece bartend's at. After being there for just a little bit, I asked her if I could vape and she said I could. I got a few funny looks at first, but then a few people sitting at the bar began asking me questions about vaping. It was pretty cool. Hopefully, I may have helped some future ex-smokers! =P

When you are approached by constant questioning, give a brief summary but always tell them "It's very important that you go to ECF and all the information is there because everyone is different when it comes to vaping."

People, especially friends and relatives are LAZY and don't want to do the research you did to enjoy vaping. I got soooo tired of answering questions I just started telling them over and over.... ECF... ECF. They finally left me alone and did their own homework.

it certainly is a conversation starter. i was at a family gathering the past weeked and now 3 of them want the same thing (which i will order for them).
what is starting to bother me a bit is the fact that i seem to be the one that has to do it all for them. not the unit itself but juices as well and as u all know, its hit n miss.
i do like that they are interested and gladly ge them off analogs but...its starting to take up lot of time to explain it all and then order stuff. the last 3 weeks ive turned many 8 people to vaping.
sometimes i vape someplace "because i can" even if i would not have lit up an analog there. i do find myself vaping in places i would not smoke, including my own house. i agree fully also with Cookiebun

I made a little card (about business card size) that has ECF's address as well as the addresses of three suppliers I know do a great job and CAASA's address. It also has a few pointers on it such as get manual batteries. I always explain a few things and then hand them the little card.

I'm very open about using my PVs. I vape openly in my office and at home. I don't care who sees me or what they think. The only places where I won't vape freely is in stores, restaurants and other places where I've been told that I can't. When I'm told that I can't vape, I don't get angry or go on the defensive. That just derails our cause and makes me look like an ....

What I think is hilarious are all my friends that always say "you and that goofy electronic cigarette thing, it looks weird, blah blah" yet they are the first ones hitting it when we're sitting at a restaurant or bar BSing and they don't want to go outside to smoke.

The lady at the table behind us started coughing. After a few mins she said "sir can you please stop smoking, I'm allergic to cigarette smoke." I responded that its not a cigarette but a PV and that all it is emitting is vapor and steam and water. She froze for a second and said in a very snotty way "WELL I didn't start coughing till you started doing that." Resulting in me putting it away and my entire family just leaving. I found it pretty humorous.

Great Story!!! I have not Vaped in too many public places. We do have an "open air" mall where I live. As we are strolling I vape. I actually went into a store there and was vaping. Yikes!!! After two months of vaping, it's become a habit having that PV in my hand. No one saw me vaping when we went in, at least I don't think they did. But I immediately put it away, I didn't want to cause any issues. I'm still a little self conscious and don't like confrontations. I wasn't a heavy smoker before, however, I've become a "heavy" if not "chronic" vapor!!

I thought it would be a good idea to vape in my lecture hall, ended up getting kicked out of class haha. Teacher had no idea what it was and just freaked out.

I vape in most places but i dont blow out big plumes of vapour .When i am on the train i just take small inhales and never had any problems .I work on an oil rig and i used to go into the designated smoke shaks but now i just vape in the office and nobody seems to care as there are 18 vapers on the rig i work on .I think if you are in a bar ect then some people might get the hump if you were to blow out great big clouds of vapour and you might end up in a few confrontational situations and wee dont want that !!!!!

We have our own shop. We welcome vapors, but ask them to be considerate when other patrons are in here, especially children. Children don't know the difference between vaping and smoking, it looks the same to them and they don't need to be encouraged to do either.

I've gotten a few strange looks here and there, but I vape everywhere. Maybe that's not a good thing because the whole purpose of me switching to this was to stop smoking. The place i was worried about most was The Chicago Theatre, my daughter was in the Nutcracker this past year and I had just started vaping. Nobody said a word to me, and I was in the front row. Same at the United Center. Never was approached.

I've only been vaping for about a month and a half. We pretty rarely go to the bars, but the one time we have since I started, I just vaped when I went to the bathroom. We live in a really small town, and I think if I were at the bar more often I would've spent the time to explain what it was, and asked to just use it at the bar. I think the only problem the owner would have had would be the worry of other patrons wanting to use analogs inside.

I've really enjoyed being able to vape inside my house- I never smoked inside. I never liked having my kids see me smoke before, though I am quite sure now that they could definitely smell it on me when I came back in from a smoke, and I wasn't crazy about them seeing me vape, either, because it so closely resembles smoking visually. I just explained it to my 4-year-old that it was to "help keep mommy from smoking yucky cigarettes" and he's fine with it. I do really closely guard any bottle of juice I am using, and keep them all in a really inaccessible cupboard.

I have to agree with the people who have said that it is really about attitude. I will vape anywhere with the mindset that if and until I have been forbidden to do so it's ok. I'm not sneaky about it, and although I've read about it I've never bothered learning how to stealth vape. I have never yet been asked to stop. I have had staff ask what it was and explained it to them. Have given out information and won a few converts as well. I'm not doing anything wrong so I don't act like I am. Of course, I differ a little from a lot of people, in that I never started vaping as an attempt to quit smoking. I was intellectually aware that cigarettes were bad for me and that I should quit them, but I liked smoking more than I wanted to quit for health reasons. I enjoy vaping as much as I enjoyed smoking and it has the added benefit of not smelling bad or killing me. I am also in my twenties and hang out with a very alternative crowd and generally explain vaping as a cheaper, very enjoyable and non lethal alternative to smoking rather than a way to QUIT SMOKING NOW!!! Then again, I have always owned my habits and never felt particularly guilty about any of them, whether that be smoking, drinking alcohol, drinking caffeine, or vaping.
