Vaping in public?!?!?!

How do you go about vaping in public? Do you? In public buildings? I'd never seen anyone do it ever until I was in an airport in NY and then I saw several people do it in Las Vegas but never ever in CT. I do it while I'm driving and in my car while at a public place but then I noticed people staring me down then I realized... They think I'm doing drugs(my husband made an off handed comment about it one day) ugggg..... It's such a social faux pas to smoke analogs but people look at me worse when I smoke an e-cig. Is it just my area or do lots of people have this problem?

Ignore them.

Seriously, vaping is not an illegal activity, unless expressly forbidden. It is not smoking. It is your business and not anybody else's. If you look ashamed, or shifty or...people will look at you and judge that you are doing something shameful and shifty.

So keep your chin up, confidence radiating and ignore them.

I definitely don't do it in public places where smoking is not allowed...I just don't want to have to deal with the looks, questions. But I do vape in public places where smoking is allowed (casinos, airport smoking lounges, some bars) and outdoor smoking areas. I am happy to entertain questions in those areas.

What I haven't tried yet, is vaping in public outdoor venues where smoking is limited to designated areas- like sporting and concert events. I have a couple lined up soon, so I'll definitely give it a try.

Most of us vape openly just about anywhere (some exceptions) but do so respectfully. I have vaped in malls, the doctor's office (he's a big supporter), the dentist office (also a big supporter), office buildings, sports bars and court houses.

I think it helps that I don't vape a cig-a-like but one that looks nothing like an analog. It also provides me the opportunity to educate the uninformed about vaping, that it is safe to be around and how it got me off analogs. I've easily passed out 300+ cards I made up with recommendations for people who want to help a loved one or friend stop smoking.

I can easily say that 99% of my interactions with people, by vaping openly, have been positive. And as far as the 1%, I really don't care what others think, as I am doing nothing to harm others and since I vape respectfully, they have no valid reason to be upset.

Another reason NOT to vape only in smoking areas is the perception it presents to the uninformed. Unfortunately, perception is reality. If through are actions, the perception that we provide the uninformed is that vaping is exactly the same as smoking and thus, just as dangerous, then that becomes the reality.

The last thing we want to do, is tell people through our actions, that vaping is the same as smoking and just as dangerous.

Hi xBexRNx. I Have been vaping for quite a while, I have long since taken up the stance that I vape , I no longer smoke. I do vape in public, I do not think that we should all be waking through the grocery store blowing huge plumes of vapor all over the place. Nor do I think that it is just fine to take out your PV in a restaurant and just go to town puffing away while others are trying to eat. I do vape pretty much anywhere that I feel its appropriate to do so, but with a modicum of respect for others in my presence. I do keep an eGo on hand to allow smokers to try this experience. As far as "onlookers" If I was worried about what they thought I would still be using a white automatic battery and huddling in the smoking area with the smokers, which neither is true.

Do what you are comfortable with. Spread the word about Vaping when the opportunities present themselves. Do not be embarrassed about doing something that is for the betterment of yourself and those around you. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

Hmm... persuasive perspective. I've only been dedicated to vaping a short time, but will definitely be keeping this in mind when evaluating open vaping opportunities.

My husband and I went out the other night. We vaped at the restaurant and had no issues. However when we went to the bar we had some problems. The owner of the bar came up to use and said he likes that we are using vapors and try to quick smoking. He went on to say that he didnt want us to use the e-cigs in the bar because he would have to explain to every smoker why it was ok for us to vape but not ok for them to smoke. Thats cool, i get it. At least it wasnt a "he's not educated on vaping" or just rude.

Well, try not to vape in places where smoking is prohibited unless you want to attract a lot of attention. For vaping in public, if you are using a big ecig (i.e. ego-c twist which I am using), you may want to buy a pouch to keep it hidden from view. Alternatively, vaping in the toilet is safe and stealthy if use flavors that do not smell (i.e. menthol).

I Vape openly, respectfully and with courtesy. I won't hide like a hunted animal. I promote and educate when needed.

What I've mainly noticed is this, no one hardly ever tends to give me a second glance go figure. Most people tend to just keep to them selfs.

If u get a chance please join CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association they do an awful lot for our right to Vape. Ty.

I vape here. I vape there. I vape pretty much anywhere. Not at my kids school(after hours yes), restaurants, and in most stores(except walmart. anythings allowed in walmart). I do in the mall because they sell the cig a like style.

I do not understand how a person cannot go to department store or a grocery store and not vape. Seems like those people are just doing it to be in peoples faces about it.

I, for one, am not going to go to a public toilet to vape! But I do occasionally chain-vape when I'm in one. Auto batts do have their good points :)

If you keep it discreet and stay decently polite, almost no one is going to freak out about your vaping. If they ask you to stop, then stop - otherwise vape on.

I'm brand new to vaping and i've only been doing it in my bedroom and in my car. I haven't had the opportunity to do it in public and quite honestly I prob won't. It's just a personal preference I guess.

I don't know what it is, but I'm kinda reluctant to vape in front of my other smoking friends only because they aren't educated about it. Yea, I could educate them but they are old school smokers who have been smoking for decades and who won't give up smoking for the world.

So I may just enjoy a few puffs on my vape but I won't have a long vaping session while hanging out with them.

Funny story, I was at a baseball game about a week ago and some nosey jerk came up behind me while I was vaping and screamed to the usher that someone was smoking!!! I told him I was not smoking that I was vaping, he just gave me a dirty look and walked away...the usher knew what I was doing because we had talked about it earlier in the game. I vape openly most of the time, I don't care what people think.

You need to use your common sense, dont vape in elevator with others and go on...
Worst case: raise your MVP and yeal " smokeless, electric cig"- "thank you and god bless you all"
Usually people come to me to ask " Is that Smokeless-electric-electronic?"
Then they asking for advise : how to quit or how to force there family members to quit and where to start/buy vaping equipment.
Be patient with them, you might save somebody's life!

My basic rule is that in some places it becomes more of an etiquette question than a legal one. While you can vape in some public places, I liken it to sitting next to a guy with way too much cologne on. While it's not bad per se, it is annoying. So, while I might like strawberry scent, for example, the guy next to me may hate it. So, out of politeness, I'll go outside to vape or something like that.

There's a bar and grill here that expressly allows it, but even there I go outside most of the time.

Well I been vaping for 3+ months and have not touched an anolog cig since. Yes at first I was scared to vape in public places and during this harsh time my dad has been in and out of the hospital. With me being in las Vegas with all the heat I always vape in the hospital in my dads room. The hospitals here are always tabacco free but you always have people smoking even staff of the hospitals will sit right outside their own establishment and smoke when clearly the signs say "this campus is tobacco Free". Sorry talking a lot but as I was saying I vape in my dads room and nurses come in and ask "is that an electronic CIG" and I tell them what I'm vaping on and they always say that's cool and ask "how long have you been off cigarettes?" Well at that time it was only 6 weeks then she goes" where did you get them?" I told her where I get my stuff at and the same thing is always said either they need to tell their mom, dad, cousin, sister, brother, aunt, or uncle that they need to get them to stop smoking and I always feel better trying to help others. The many other places I vape and never get looked at strange and never get told anything are McDonald's, burger king, long john silvers, Walmart, Kmart, target, best buy, auto zone, staples, KFC, all casinos, ect too many places to name. Yes I do vape where smoking is not allowed but until someone tells me I can't vape there like this guy who was clearly a loner told me" I don't care if that is vapor your not smoking that in this store" I said OK and put it in my pocket and by the way it was 7 eleven lol. My point to this is vape where you want. When someone says you can't vape in their establishment then don't. And me reading of you guys going to designated smoking areas to vape defeats the purpose of vaping in the first place. Yes you are vaping now but you are also breathing in second hand smoke now if there is a guy/girl smoking while you are vaping. I learned that I can't go into most establishments in las Vegas because it smells like cigarettes in the establishment example casinos I have been in a casino only 2 times since I started vaping because I can't breath if I'm in the casino with all the smokers. So that is my story and I'm sticking to it I hope all you vapers can understand where I am coming from and vape on!
