Vaping in Public

The sad thing is, is that some people have to put up with this stupidity because they need their jobs. It's a vicious cycle, do you stand up, and say that your rights are being violated and lose your job or conform to the stupidity for the sake of your income? I think what is happening in the states even just with regards to tobacco laws is absolutely insane. You can own a gun, buy ammo anywhere but damn you if you smoke? This is the strangest thing I have ever heard.

I'm not sure what the vaping laws are in Canada though, I'm just speaking about the American laws

Currently there isn't any restrictions by the Canadian Government about vaping in public. Currently its at the discretion of where you ate vaping. Here in Winnipeg, most bars and pubs don't mind it as long as its not disturbing any other customers. At least for now.

I suppose that's a choice people going to have to make: Do they value their jobs more than their freedom to do as they please on their own time?

Do they need a job? Probably. But they need that particular job?

I agree with you 100%, it's easy for me to say though, in Ireland I haven't come across one restriction yet. I just think it's really barbaric to just make laws as you go along, and make everyone who happens to have a nicotine dependence or enjoy vaping basically an outlaw. This is 100% violation of rights, and should be seriously looked at again.

Meh, put me off any desire to travel to the USA if i can't even vape OUTSIDE.

edit: That quote went terribly wrong! Glitch in the matrix, or user error?

I've been vaping for about a month now, and I never smoked. Makes peopLe around me wonder why I even started vaping. LOl.

I vape mostLy at home, Like 90% of the time. And outside the office or designated smoking areas onLy. I just dont want peopLe to think I'm an insensitive douche bLowing vapor everywhere.

I even took it as far as choosing eLiquids that dont have a Lot of smeLL to them when I vape. Whoever said to not vape where you wouLdnt normaLLy smoke, got it right. :)

Let's look at it from a different angle...

Why aren't the people who go all Rain Man (Smoke! Hot! Burn the baby!!! Nooooo!!!!) when they see a puff of harmless vapor the insensitive douches?

Oh, wait...

In reality they are.

I've been fortunate concerning vaping. I've turned many people away from smoking without even seeing them. I'm a mod on a very large parrot board. The worse thing people can do is smoke around parrots indoors. They have extremely sensitive nasal areas and many die from cig smoke. On the board I've told loads of people that I vape and also have told them how parrots aren't affected by E cigs at all. I've gotten loads of PMs asking me to get into specifics because they smoke heavily and are very scared of the effects on their birds and family. I can't begin to tell you how many changed over to vaping. And it's not because they want to stop smoking. They're addicts just like me but now know how to cope and deal with their addiction without affecting their parrots, children and other types of pets they own. SO, to me, vaping has been a satisfying experience for me and others that I've never met. As a matter of fact, a few of those people are constant lurkers on this board.

As far as vaping in areas that could get others upset, I wouldn't do it. Irritating people isn't my bag. Live and let others live happy.

That's just not right, Next they will be testing for nicotine
What are they going to do About drug testing in the state where p0t Is legal, hmmm
If they can't fire you for drinking at home, Which is legal, why would they be a be able to fire you for doing that at home?

This is off topic but I worked in California during the time of the Med stuff and it appears that there is a loophole that is being implemented that goes after the "safety" aspect of enforcement. If the lawyers can come up with that, imagine how far that could be construed? Just a different perspective.

I work for our local municipality - at City Hall (the same place local cigarette bans are implemented and enforced city-wide). Several of us vape in the lunchroom - and so far haven't encountered any problems, complaints or otherwise. A few fellow employees have asked the typical questions (as expected) - but we haven't had any complaints brought to our attention or any sort of policy handed down that prevents us from vaping.

And we're not overly discreet about it.

I vape in my office at work in LA (post production), and so many people smoke there, that no one bats a lash. Several people there also have ecigs devices and smoke as well. If I have a particularly smelly juice, I go outside or in the halls.

Having never smoked cigarettes, it's actually nice that I can have an excuse to smoke and hang out with everyone else when the "smoke break" occurs.

I think people go overboard with thinking everything is hurtful! The lady walking by with perfume on is more harmful than vapor from these ecigs! Vaping is nothing like smoking yet people place it in the same category! It sort of defeats the purpose to stand with smokers like what you are doing is just as bad! I understand being respectful but I think we need to take our rights back!

Well, to be real, we really don't know how harmful it is or if it isn't 100% harmless. It is a healthier alternative, and that has been proven, but other than that we really don't know if there would be a safer way to vape or not. There hasn't been any deaths as caused by vaping so I suppose that's a plus. I would really like to see stuff get regulated though. It might put the smaller vendors out of business but if they are dedicated enough, then they will follow through. Just my personal opinion.

I try not to vape often in public as I don't like unwanted attention. But when I walk in to my local vape shop...clouds are-a-rippin i'll tell you that! Even around the general area that the vape shop is in I vape outside just because everyone is more familiar with it around there. have never been kicked out of a place or asked to stop yet. Hopefully that won't happen

I just want the vendors who sell fake products as genuine products to be regulated. I'm tired of spending 17 euros on a tank that is so badly cloned, but sold as a real kanger, or vivi!

I vape pretty much everywhere I go without any complaints. If I feel I may be pushing it, I ask someone who works there if I can vape. I've vaped in government buildings without a single hassle.

You really need to do some research before making these statements. Here is one of several studies that demonstrate that vaping is harmless to anyone in the general vicinity:

http://publichealth.drexel.edu/~/media/Files/publichealth/ms08.pdf

Also, what product is 100% harmless?? Water is not 100% harmless. Deodorant, perfume, hair products, etc are not 100% harmless.

True, we don't know if its harmful but we do know that those of us who have switched from smoking to vaping breathe better, feel better, and have more energy. I do think it all need regulated, but with regulation comes taxing and government overseeing everything. That's good and bad. I think some studies and testing needs done so we can stop speculating. Since I know I feel much more healthier than when I was smoking, I actually feel like I did way before I started smoking, so I'm sure there may be some negatives to vaping, there is more positives with vaping and the ingredients in ejuice is also found in others things we all already use...
