All over the place
See i didn't have an issue with my blood pressure when i was smoking, but i was also a lot more active when i was smoking too. The thing with vaping and my current issue with blood pressure is that i have been alternating days when i vape in the mornings and days that i don't. I then check my blood pressure at noon and on average my diastolic blood pressure number is 15 points lower on days that i don't vape.

Good luck, bud. I hope you find some comfortable middle ground where you can have your cake and vape it too.

Sorry to interrupt the argument guys, but does anyone know anything about the effects of nicotine on blood pressure ?

Never had issues with high blood pressure when i was smoking, but the last checkup i had borderline high blood pressure. Bought a blood pressure monitor and have been checking at home. When i don't vape my blood pressure seems to drop to normal levels, but when i vape again my blood pressure seems to go up. I'm a little confused since i am sure i inhaled more nicotine when i smoked. It might be that i am getting older, but i see a direct relation to vaping as well. Is there anything else besides nicotine that might have an effect on blood pressure ?

I think it may depend on what's causing the high blood pressure and that's often difficult to diagnose. I've been on BP meds for just over 5 years now but don't know the cause of the BP. I assumed it was from smoking but when I switched to vaping nothing changed. My readings are all over the place and don't seem correlate to when or how much I vape. I think age plays a role as well as family history.

I'm not too concerned right now. The doctor said it's borderline and there is no need for medication, but to monitor it and make some adjustments to my diet. She is supportive of my vaping in general.

If you never closely monitored your blood pressure when you were smoking you would not know what it did as you smoked, or didn't smoke?

Since the nicotine in e-liquid is not addictive, switching to 0 nic should be easy...
I haven't made any comment on whether it is or isn't addictive on this thread, and i would rather not tbh. I just wanted to see if others have links or personal observations as far as its effect on blood pressure.

Nicotine raises blood pressure. I thought everyone knew that...

The nicotine in cigarette smoke is a big part of the problem. It raises your blood pressure and heart rate, narrows your arteries and hardens their walls, and makes your blood more likely to clot. It stresses your heart and sets you up for a heart attack or stroke.

High Blood Pressure and Smoking: How to Quit

The activists will say the nic in e-cigs is special, or that it is the tobacco, but it really is one side effect of nicotine...

The nicotine in cigarettes and other tobacco products makes your blood vessels get narrow and your heart beat faster, which makes your blood pressure get higher. If you quit smoking and using tobacco products, you can lower your blood pressure and your risk for heart disease and heart attack.

Yes, quite a few things. I watch my blood pressure carefully because years ago it was higher than it should be (Also my father had 2 very serious issues caused by high blood pressure). The most important thing I did was to lose weight, I'm down 30 pounds from my highest weight 4 or 5 years ago. "They" tell you to watch salt intake, but I never found that salt made a bit of difference. Magnesium and vitamin C supplements do help, IME.
Vaping nicotine raises my BP a few points early in the morning, but I see no further change later in the day.

I've experimented with this. My systolic gets about 10 points higher under full exertion when I chain vape for about 20 minutes before I ride a tough course on my bike...

That's true too. I had no reason to closely monitor in the past. I honestly don't care about the politics of smoking vs. vaping and the effects of nicotine within and without the smoking context. I believe i am a little addicted to nicotine, but was a lot more addicted to cigarettes, and i really don't care what anyone else does nor do i have any advice for them :)

"Slides into a pack?" So in this scenario the vaper would just turn into a smoker because they become that fiendish for nicotine? Hell, why not just say that once their battery dies the vaper (that never smoked) may even begin trolling the freeway to pick up used cigarette butts off the ground just to get his fix? I can totally see that happening...in an after-school special.

I can't remember, but how did we "slide into packs"? If I recall, it was because we just wanted to smoke, not because somehow the gas station ran out of candy cigarettes or Big League Chew!
Car battery analogy is super dumb. The step from vaping to smoking is a tiny step. Who are you kidding? My guess us most of your kids who never smoked and now vsoe....smoked first...puhleeze.

And even if you did experience cravings, so what?!?! I've been vaping for almost 5 years and when I travel, I experience cravings for nic but that's because I don't typically travel with vape gear...no matter how long I am gone. And no, I don't go running to buy cigarettes becasue I don't have my vape gear. But wait. How is that possible? Oh, because it's not that big of a deal. Now, when I was smoker I didn't go to the mailbox without smokes, let alone out of the state or country.

I still vape 24 mg/mL during the morning and 3-6 mg/mL during the afternoon into the night. I love nic. I really love vaping. I can do without it, but I choose not to.
Do you really believe your last sentence. No truer words have ever been spoken by any addict on the planet. I can stop anytime I want...Denial is not a river in Egypt.

Special nicotine? No, just saying that if you want to test nicotine you should not conflate it with the consumption of burned leaves just to speak on the effects of one of its many alkaloids. For instance, here is a study on non-smoking individuals from nicotine administration (i.e., nicotine administration, not smoking):

Nicotine treatment of mild cognitive impairment

Reduction in systolic BP of non-smoking individuals who were tested "to preliminary assess the safety and efficacy of transdermal nicotine therapy on cognitive performance and clinical status in subjects with mild cognitive impairment (MCI)." That study also has other results of non-smoking indviduals that are interesting.

@Mazinny , just curious, what happens with your systolic readings?
I am not as concerned with the systolic tbh. It usually fluctuates between 115 and 140 and i haven't noticed a pattern tbh. It always did fluctuate.

These were people with an underlying issue- amnestic MCI...
I am sure you can provide a valid study showing nicotine lowers blood pressure... Perhaps Pfizer had one done...
