Well vapor ain't smoke so why did my detector say fire? The same goes for the plane detector just linked it detects the looks of smoke not actual smoke.
That what Ive gathered. These cheaper devices just detect a visible flaw in the air and not actual smoke. Fog machines or heavy steam would set them off as well then... I think...

I had a few people sitting around me that caught a whiff of what I was vaping and asked if I had an e-cig. They were smokers and were sold on the idea of vaping before we landed.

Well all I care about is new vapers messing up what we can do atm by being like wow I can vape on a plane and blow a big cloud and it gets to the news if it keeps happening.

I usually vape in the plane and at the airport on business trips. I DO, however, keep it VERY discreet. Carto with an eVic with it turned down a little bit and 12mg juice. Also, I typically exhale sharply either into my shirt or in a blanket just aide in quick dissipation of the smoke.

Yeah hopefully nobody messes this up for us. I'd hate it if I had to "check" my equipment into my luggage and I just so happen to have a stop over (which I almost always do). Have a safe trip man!

True. Its always better to err on the side of caution, so as to help avoid any unwanted attention/regulations/bad reputation.

So wait a min. Can anyone confirm 100% that's a smoke detector can be set off by vapor? I wonder if it depends on the make/model or even type of vapor pg/vg or just pg???? the smoke detector at my house does not go off from a 50/50 pg/vg juice

The ones used in aircraft will go off with enough vapor. Theirs are $ mulit-thousand systems. The $20 uint in your house isn't as sensitive.

I ask the airports before flying (via email) if vaping is allowed in the airport. All I have
asked have told me yes. After landing, while getting luggage, I discreetly semi stealth vape.
If any of the airports had said no, I'd just stealth in a bathroom stall.
On the airplane itself, I semi stealth in the bathroom (with a disposable, not big plumes
of vapor, and double inhaling then blowing in the shirt method while bent down so my face
is close to the floor - yeah I don't do it often, LOL).

I have three types at my house, a multi function smoke/carbon monoxide detector (it goes off) a decent smoke detector (goes off) a cheap smoke detector (doesn't go off).

thanks for all the great answers guys!!!! Ill stealth vape with a little ego in the bathroom. Keep it discreet. So what do you think would happened if one of the smoke alarms started to go off? I wonder what they do to you.

Have some stuff to spray and play dumb.

A year ago I was flying and took nicotine gum (wasn't vaping then).
Had never used the gum before. Up in the air, I put a piece of nic gum
in my mouth. I had had it awhile and don't know if it changed or what, but
one swallow and I thought I was having a heart attack. Tasted like I was swallowing
pure nic. Musta turned green. Frantically looked for a piece of tissue or something to
spit it out. First and only time trying the gum.

The smoke detectors on planes are a hell of a lot more advanced then what you can get for your home. They also show location of the incident.
Airlines have been dealing with this kind of thing (both stealth smokers as well as stealth vapers) for some time now. I am sure it would be more difficult to fool them then you think.
How did you manage before you started vaping?
If I were you, I would just abstain for the duration of the flights or use patches or gum.
There have been incidents where flights have been re-routed and made emergency landings because "smoke" was detected. Why risk turning a nice vacation into a legal nightmare?

Its seems fundamentally unamerican to ban something like stelth vaping when it causes no distraction/safety risk/ect. I don't know for sure if there is some kind of hazard to stealth vaping on a plane, but I doubt it... see http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-cigarettes-public/458879-college-classroom-3.html for my hypothetical thread that seems to upset a few teachers.

Does that fact that you find it necessary to "Stealth" indicate that you recognize it is wrong/illegal/against the rules?
