Hello, It's been 95 days since I had my last cigarette. I still find it hard to believe that some people can say "cigarettes smell and taste disgusting" after only quitting for a little while, because I still love the way some cigarettes smell as I'm passing by someone.

Anyways, some side effects since I've switched to vaping are more acne, canker sores, and a sore thumb (but that's to blame on my Itaste MVP). I also get these bumps on my skin (I suppose it could be acne) similar to the ones I get sometimes when I've been eating junk and drinking soda all weekend, after long weekend vape sessions.

Everyone says "that's just normal from your body adjusting to the vaping." Yes, that is probably true, but it seems a bit unusual that supposed benign ingredients such as propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin would cause this reaction in so many of us.

I continue to have more acne even after 3 months now. I got a canker sore my third week directly where the tip of my protank would enter my lip. I had to switch sides, and the sore didn't go away until about 2 weeks after. It seems as if the inside of my mouth is more sensitive now because when I accidently bit somewhere, there's immediately a sore in there for days.

I know vaping is "a heck of a lot better than smoking," but benign chemicals shouldn't be causing any reactions. You probably wouldn't get acne from quitting cigarettes and nicotine altogether would you? You would think that going from 1100 contaminants in cigarettes including tar and pesticides would make your skin look better not worse!

Also, food preservatives aren't good for you either, so it's not like vegetable glycerin is the best thing to be putting into our bodies. Are there any other common side effects that i may be missing?

Acne is most likely due to not having the antidepressants found on tobacco. Hormones are a huge factor in acne, and hormones are effected by the harangue in cigs.

Wow I typed garbage and it auto corrected to harangue? What the heck is harangue?

Harangue = rant, or complain, usually loudly. The renter harangued the landlord about fixing his broken steps.

Anyway, I got a lot of achne quitting smoking every time, even when I did it cold turkey. I wasn't surprised to get it when I took up vaping.

Initially, the only negative side effect, I had experienced, was a dry mouth.

The positive effects are too many to note. The Vaping life style, although it may have hidden and unknown results down the road, has been a stellar experience, thus far.

ETA: I would be remiss, if I did not note the flowing.

I have had 2 sinus surgeries when I was younger. Since then, I regularly have had 2 to 3 sinus infections every year.

Since vaping, I have had not one sinus infection. :D

I use Orajel mouthwash and mouth sore gel if I get canker sores it helps. Maybe the acne is from the sweetness of the juices. I have IBS and it wasn't affected my quitting. I've been off ciggys for over a year and hardly ever had a canker sore before I quit. Things seem to settle down after a couple months though. Good luck!

Well, haha, they are caused by the herpes simplex virus and once you’ve gotten it it’s always present in your system. Can you please explain how people get canker sores in the bottom of the grove between the gum and lip when it’s impossible to bite that area? Three people with this problem have posted about their experiences with these sores yet you seem to think we’re all wrong. What gives with that? You're saying toothpaste can cause a sore but not eliquid? Makes no sense at all.

These kinds of blisters can spontaneously appear with what appears to be no provocation; the provocation actually is any challenge to the immune system, which may not be externally obvious until/unless one actually becomes sick -- but the immune system fights off many things so well that we never become ill, it's just that the immune system is so busy with that other challenge, it allows the blisters to appear. They can appear in any part of the mouth -- lips, tongue, palate -- it's just that the only ones anyone else can see are external on the lips.

I do have water retention I believe as my ankles and hands swell. I just need to up my water I guess. I can't think of any other side effects. I have many positives from making the switch though :)

This is actually more a symptom of electrolytes being out of whack; it happens because of dehydration, but simply drinking more water won't fix it; once it gets to this point, just drinking a lot of water can actually make it worse, by continuing to flush electrolytes from the system. Try coconut water; if you don't care for the taste, mix it with pineapple juice -- this completely fixed my "cankles" problem, and keeps them gone, by drinking some every day.

You may need to address other aspects of the problem like sodium and caffeine, as I did, but the coconut water is the first step.

Nice explanation! I know all that Andria, but what drives me nuts is people coming here and describing symptoms they are having and some people just have to essentially tell them they are full of it. Heck, even on of the mods had problems with sores. You've had more than your share of difficulties over the past several months to know how frustrating it can be. Glad you are coming along so well now. :)

I too have developed some acne but have read its from quitting analogs after 20 years. I use asthma inhalers and have some issues with thrush. I know it's the PG so I only use 100% VG now and still can't taste anything. It takes a long time to clear up so hang in there. Its been 42 days for me.

Thrush is from the steroid in the inhaler cause infection growth to be on super speed. PG is actually antibiotic.

It really is a huge relief to finally be on some kind of "even keel" with my health, but I was quite determined that not even appendicitis or stupid cankles were going to keep me from vaping; got rid of that faulty appendix, and found the cure to the cankles! :D Coconut water is now my best friend! :D

I won't tell people they're full of it, but I do observe that many people are so attached to their cigarette habit that the slightest little thing can make them give up vaping and go back to the cigarettes, feeling fully justified in doing so. If that's what they really, really want, that's fine; no one is going to force them. My major concern with folks like that is that may then go about spewing the 'vaping doesn't really work' line, when that's just pure BS -- it's kinda like AA, "it works if you work it." ;) There is NOTHING that vaping can do that is worse than what cigarettes do to a human body, not one thing, but to make any kind of major lifestyle change like swapping vaping for smoking, your body is going to give you some weird symptoms, and for sure, an addict's brain is going to throw everything it can find into the mix to make you go back to giving it the thing it craves. Brains can manufacture symptoms -- the brain does control the entire body! -- and if you aren't careful, you'll fall for it, because the symptoms the brain can manufacture are so *real* and seem like something you really ought to deal with -- by going back to smoking?!?!?!? How idiotic is that?!?!

I confess, I went back to smoking briefly, but I knew when I did it that it was GOING TO BE briefly, not a real return to my old never-quit habit. It took a month to re-establish my taste for vaping, but now that I have, I really doubt I'll ever take that risk again, because it's scary how fast the old habit can reclaim you.

When you think about the negatives, you also have to remember the positives. You don't smell like cigarette smoke anymore, You probably quit without gaining weight thanks to ecigs, your lung capacity improved, and your cancer risk goes down with every year you don't smoke.

I've found ecigs to have very few side effects. The best one is that I was actually able to quit smoking and stay quit this time. I don't have those orange stains around my fingernails anymore, either.

Not true. All antibiotics can cause thrush, which is actually an overgrowth of a fungus, candida albicans. The only way to get rid of thrush is to encourage the regrowth of the helpful, necessary bacteria in the mouth -- Activia yogurt works well, as it's a probiotic -- sure, it's meant for the intestines, but those "biotics" are needed in the mouth too.

Hmm I am only going off the pediatrician who prescribed it to my son. I am no Doc.

Then ask the doc, who was likely just giving you a "layman's" version -- ask him about a fungus called candida albicans, which is the cause of thrush, as well as the cause of "yeast infections." Or you could just believe a woman who's had to deal with many "yeast infections" in my lifetime, thanks to antibiotics. My son got thrush as a newborn baby, likely from my milk, due to a 4 day course of antibiotics after my caesarian.

As a relatively new vaper, I also developed 2 symptoms (side effects) the canker sores (treat with baking soda and water paste) and a really sore throat, lower in my throat than where you would expect to get a sore throat. Im not posting this to give myself an "out" to go back to smoking, definitely not going back there! The positives totally out weigh any negative side effects, and the side effects are clearing up now. Lowering my PG on my next batch of juices to try hoping that it may help with the throat issue. From Canada, and our taxation on cigs here was insane, the cost savings I have already incurred, far exceed what I have spent on vaping set up. (and I have a touch of shinyitus too it seems) Anyway, hang in there with the canker sores (try the baking soda if you havent) They do improve!

When I first quit I didn't take peoples advice about hydrating and got the most epic case of laringitis of ALL time. I lost my voice completely for about a week and it felt like I had strep throat(doc said nope). Once I started taking in MANY more fluids than I was used to, it straightened itself out after another week.

That's about the only side affect I suffered, but I maintain that was my own doing. After all, I just needed to drink some freaking water(Thank got for flavor enhancers).
