I'm using the Subtank Mini with a nickel OCC head...

And yes, this is my first TC mod...

I'll try my STmini with ni200 OCCs on my Waidea to see if I have issues. My Waidea is 100% stock, haven't done a thing to it. I'm guessing I probably will, as they don't even work well on my real DNA40. I'll report back my findings shortly.

I can use my ST Mini fine on my Waidea for non-TC, but have never tried TC. Yeah that's what I heard re TC on the ST.

@diceman1000 , do you have any nickel wire? If you don't have any separate RBAs, one thing to try would be the RBA section of the ST mini as I believe that might work a bit better - I understand that most of problem with the ST Mini is the Ni200 coils themselves. So the RBA may well work better.

And if you do have both Ni200 wire and separate RBAs, then definitely try those together as well - in fact I'd try a separate RBA before even the ST RBA deck, if possible.

Remember, spaced coils when doing Ni200 builds - no coil touching any other. Plenty of build videos available on YT.

At this point there's no reason at all to think anything is wrong with your Waidea. You probably just need to use it with different attys for TC, or at least use the RBA deck instead of Ni200 coils.

ThunderDan's testing will give us a bit more info. I can't do the same as I have none of those Ni200 coils. I could try a Ni200 build on the ST RBA deck later, and will if that still seems like it will be useful by then.

@diceman1000 Been using the Waidea and STmini with ni200 OCC for about the last half hour. At first it was working pretty good, resistance was .22, then .21, then .20 for a while it would jump back up to .21. After setting it down for a bit and coming back to it the resistance has settled down to .19ohm. Now it will not produce any vapor. As soon as I fire it the wattage instantly goes to 0W, and temp jumps to 600F. I'm guessing that is what you are seeing?

--edit--

Now in the time that I posted that, one fire I got regular vapor performance, then tried firing again, and got 0W / 600F again.

Well, for my Waidea Flask today... It hits temperature protection almost instantly and the ohms jump all over the place... I am not pleased... Is this a ground issue? Should I just send it back for a replacement? So very disappointed

When you said "it hits temperature protection" can you elaborate? Do you mean it does what ThunderDan just said - it goes to 0W - or did you mean it actually says "TEMPERATURE PROTECTED" ?

If the latter, could you put a link to the VF that you bought? Because recent Waideas don't ever say that message - or they haven't for at least a couple of batches that we know of here.

It actually displays temperature protection...

And it's the black model from Focal's USA warehouse

Interesting. I'm thinking it's most likely that the US warehouse still has slightly old(er) stock - not at all unlikely given they had that huge delay for the wedding. Either that or the latest chips have the TP message turned back on again - I suppose it could have been a bug /unintentional that it wasn't displayed - or at least, something they reversed because it confused people that it didn't match the original and other clones.

Yours does have the Stainless 510 connection, right - not brass? And when you turn it on it says "DNA 40", not "KX DNA 40" or similar?

Mine is still not firing at all with this STmini, well like every 7th time, but that is just annoying. Its going back on the SX M, works like a charm always on that. Plus there is too much gap on the Waidea.

Interesting that you have a different board @diceman1000 I ordered from China around the same weekend they listed the US Warehouse page. Must be different batches though, I've never seen "temp protection" displayed on this board.

It is odd, because my Flask was shipped 31st March and doesn't have TP message.

But that was 3FVape. Maybe 3FVape were sending them out almost as soon as they came in to them from Waidea, whereas Focal with their US warehouse might have set aside boxes for the US a while ago, not sent them until after the wedding, and so the US is sending older stock.

Or maybe each batch of Waideas has variable chip revisions - two people could order around the same time and get different chips, because they're not being used in the order they were manufactured.

Who knows :)

I am surprised to hear that his battery caps don't line up, I didn't realise that was ever a problem on the Waideas. Has anyone else seen that on theirs?

I would think anything ordered from the usa warehouse of focal would be at least 2+ weeks older than anything ordered directly from China. They (china) has to ship them to the guy in the usa, then he ships to you. Ordering directly from China you'd be getting whatever the latest batch is (at the time of ordering). At least that makes sense to me. So if Bob ordered from the usa warehouse, and Joe ordered from China on the same day, Joes would be "newer" so to speak, as Bob's would have had to been shipped from China at least a couple weeks/days prior to get to the usa warehouse.

Also, I wouldn't consider ohms jumping from 0.20 to 0.21 to 0.19 going "all over the place"... That's still in the general vicinity... Ambient tempature does effect nickel coil resistance... Jumping from 0.20 to 0.05 to 0.80 or something like that, those are wild swings and most likely means a poor connection somewhere. Terminals on the atty where the coil legs are screwed down, the 510 pin on the bottom of the atty, etc.

Janky azz subtank and occ heads are part of your problem, they are known to cause issues.

But yes you could still have a ground problem also that is amplifying the issue.

Solution:
Fix ground
Throw subtank in trash and buy a real RBA and some Ni200 I recommend a Lemo or Lemo2 they are a perfect match for Ni200 and TP
