Just saw your edited post, jrs....ahh jeez that's a bummer....they should have better qc than that!

I would contact VF and bring these concerns to their attention for sure...

Bottom button is supposed to stick out more... Or so says the creator... Someone around here has both buttons flush tho

The top plate isn't even. It hangs over a little on one side and I can also see a slight gap in some areas.
I haven't even put batteries in it and I'm ready to return it.
Not sure if I want to contact VF or just contact Vapinart for a refund.
I'm not going thru a bunch of hassle over this thing.

Don't blame you one bit. For the price you pay it should be perfect. I ran out the door to my in-laws before I could really look mine over carefully. I'll let you know if I see anything similar when I get back home...

Mine came in today as well. Haven't turned it on yet as the new batteries are still charging.
Bottom button sticks out further on mine too and the flimsy feeling USB port is already concerning me.
...and now looking at the bottom there's a nice big scratch right thru the logo. The 3 of the 4 top hex bolts are rounded out like someone cranked down too hard.

Yeah, same concerns here as well....I just joined the VF group on Facebook, so maybe I'll try to see if I can get us some clarification as to whether this stuff is ok (ie: normal).

I remember reading that the usb port is supposed to have a bit of play in it, but there seems to be some conjecture as to whether the buttons are supposed to be uneven...I'll be sure to report back if/when I find out more...

Don't know if I would call it "Normal" but most are like that... loose USB and lower button sticks out more than the top. There are some folks that have gotten VFs with the buttons of equal height.

By the way on the USB port while I don't like it being loose I don't think it will ever be a problem. If you look on Evolv's site you will see the USB module for sale and it is a standalone board and the USB connector is soldered right on the board so while it looks and feels floppy it isn't. What I think is going on is the USB board is held in place by some rails that don't hold the USB card real tight so the wobble you feel it the entire USB card moving a little. IMHO (as aggravating as it may be) I don't think it will ever fail as it might if the USB connector was wobbling because it is mounted to the board incorrectly. :2c:

Well I've had a chance to get home and check over my new Flask, and besides the uneven buttons (which sounds like the norm based on all the reports I hear about this) mine seems to be fine. Fit and finish seem to be very good, so I'm bummed that jrs99 got a bad one!

I haven't had a chance to try TP mode yet though, so I can't say for sure whether the chip is good. Time will tell!

Aight, just rolled up my first Ni200 coil, 12 wraps on a GPFork sized spindle and it comes out to .24.
I left temperature default at 450 and set it to 10 watts, then 15 watts. Not too shabby!
Sure wish I could read the temp readout while I'm vaping but my eyes aren't so hot any more.
I will say this is the best taste I've gotten out of my Grant's Vanilla Custard! GVC needs to be kept at a lower temp which is what pushed me back into the regulated world to begin with.
Gonna have to play with it some more and do some more reading. The only regulated mod I've ever used is a Provari and I haven't really used it much since I went into mechanicals. I still have no clue on watts, just volts.

The VF does actually feel good in the hand. I tried an MVP once and it pretty much turned me against box mods but the flask is pretty nice.
I'll email them about the screws. The scratch I can live with but I'm concerned that if/when I need warranty on this thing they're going to look at the screws and say I opened the top.

I'm feeling a little better JP but still would have like to seen some better QC on this thing.
First thing I screwed on was a Spheroid and it went on just fine. Tried my Heron and it wouldn't screw down. It fits fine on any other mod so I checked the threads, ran a toothbrush over them and still had to work it back and forth a bit to get it worn in but it finally seated. No big deal, I'd say the tolerance is pretty tight which isn't a bad thing.

Guys -

hoping to get some input on an odd issue I'm experiencing with my 'Flask:

Over the last couple of weeks, I've seen sporadic issues with my fire button. For example, if I do 5 fast clicks to lock the mod, sometimes it acts as if the fire button is 'stuck' and will continue to fire. If I press the button again, it will typically (but not always) stop. If I remove my atty, however, the 5 clicks register correctly and the mod locks and unlocks normally. I'm still testing, but I noticed today after putting in fresh batteries, I'm able to lock and unlock the mod normally.

Here's the question: some of the batteries I've been using have been older (6+ months of use) VTC5's. Testing the batteries with a meter didn't show an issue with the batteries, but I'm wondering if there may be a connection? The newer VTC3's (received at the same time as the 'Flask two weeks ago) don't appear to exhibit the same issue.

I've contacted VaporFlask and they're setting up an RMA - if the issue is with the batteries, though....

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Any fellow flask owners seen similar oddities with older batteries? Bueller?

Question: Does anyone know if the silver Flasks are anodized or bare aluminum?

BNEAT,

The Silver Flasks are Anodized. Also they are not totally clear Anodized they have a slight gray cast to them, very nice looking.

@ jaxgator, "Bare Aluminum" wouldn't hold up or look nice after handling for any length of time. Believe it or not Bare Aluminum oxidizes and the surface is much softer then Anodized Aluminum.

Really? It's coated? I did not know that. Thanks!

I do remember that sellers called them "clear" so I guess it is clear anodized.

Well, I unfortunately had to ship back my brand new Flask today. The problem is one that I have never heard of before with the DNA 40. Basically the mod never ONCE asked me if the coil was new or not. It didn't matter whether I took off/put on the same atty or a different one. I tried four different attys with nickel builds in them actually, and the Flask never asked me if the coil was new. Because of this, the device was always reading the resistance of the previous coil and it was causing TP to not work properly.

Now I am aware of the fact that the device will not ask you if it knows that it's the same coil, but this one NEVER asked me. didn't matter if I just fired the coil and took it off/put it back on....

Well hopefully Vaporflask will get it sorted out soon!! :)

JAX,

Yuppers they are definitely Anodized. The problem with Aluminum is that bare Aluminum does oxidize. So if you take a piece of aluminum that is polished but not anodized it will in short time look dull after handling in just a short period of time.

Anodizing does two things prevent the aluminum from oxidizing (albeit Anodizing is a form of oxidation under specially controlled conditions) and the other is it makes the surface of the Aluminum harder than the aluminum below the level of the Anodizing which is a good thing to prevent surface scratches from normal use.

By the way anodizing is not actually a coating but a specially controlled oxidation and color staining it is done via electrolysis (much like regular metal platting process). The different colors are produce by adding different chemicals to the electrolyte chemicals while passing electric current thru the tank and the device you are anodizing.

One more bit a trivia is what VaporFlask calls clear actually has a slight gray cast to it. When manufacturers call some items clear anodized they sometimes take a fair amount of liberty in what they call clear. My V.F. is a slight gray cast as I mentioned. Actually I like it better than true clear. If you just hold the V.F. in your hand by itself you might not notice the gray cast to it however when you put a polished silver S.S. atty on it you will instantly notice the difference. I don't mean that it looks strange or bad I actually like the slight contrast between the two finishes. It give the assembly a little more dimension and character.

I know, way more than you ever wanted to know about the "Clear Anodized Flask".

PS - I have even had the folks at VaporFlask (on the phone) call the clear flask S.S. and when I said "Oh - they are not Aluminum but S.S. they immediately corrected there statement to "no not really they are aluminum just like the black and the Gun Metal".

Wow JP, that blows!
Mine was working fine but all of a sudden today it would hit the TP threshold, I let off the button and it'll flash the Temp Protected warning a couple more times.
.25 coil @ 10 watts I can't hit it for more than a couple seconds before it starts flashing TP warning.

ETA: Just emailed Vapinart for a refund. Hopefully they'll allow it...

Bummer. I have appearance modifications planned (if I ever got off the fence and buy one) and anodizing will make it harder for me. oh well.

Maybe I'll contact them and see if they'll send me one pre-anodized!?!

BNEAT,

Now you have my curiosity up what "appearance" mod did you have planned?

Since I have had mine I have often thought something like a "Dragon" (or just some design to give it a little cosmetic flair) laser etched on the convex surface would give it some character. Something along the lines of the Provari or my Seven-30 has.

Yeah man....sux.....Mine works excellent in non-tp mode, but I really want to use it in tp mode!! Unfortunately the device never asked me if the coil was new when putting a different atty on (with nickel build)....or the same atty for that matter....

Vapinart is supposedly a very reputable company, so I don't see why they wouldn't allow a refund....bottom line is you're not a satisfied customer, so you deserve to have it resolved properly!!

I hope so. For the money I definitely expect better. If you give me mass produced quality then I want a mass produced price to go with it.
I really want to like this thing! The feel in the hand is great but the flaws are too much. For the cost of this thing I should be loving it and I'm not :(
Screw this, I'm staying with Mechs.
