I hate to here this. As little as we've heard of this lately, I assumed they increased the size of the holes.
I ordered mine as soon as I got notified from Vaperev they had them back in Stock, and after watching a YouTube video with one of the owners of VaporFlask last night, it was just recently recorded (Plumes of Hazzard), he said they had tried addressing the size of the tubes, but had several issues and made the decision to keep the tubes the same size. It's a good watch. So I don't think they're going to change the size anytime soon.

They are getting ready to beta test a bottom feeder though. What are they called, Squonkers? Looks awesome!

Same... the only other reason i'm waiting until they address it. (if they do... owner said they dont want us using efest or sammys etc.... milled specifically for the VTC line)

Well you did it "Snow Blind" I was not going to comment on this with any impatience in my voice but whomever told you it was machined for the VTC series is an idiot. The VTC is very difficult to acquire because it is manufacture for OEM consumption not the general public and I am quit sure that the people at Vapor Flask know that.

For everyone else just use a little sandpaper and/or Scotch Brite pad to smooth up the finish. You only have to make sure there are no sticky labels on the batteries and then sand (medium grit) them down until all the printing and plastic sheen has been removed for a grand total of possible 1.5 to 2 thousands in diameter and it will slip in like it was buttered including "Fat Efests". I use a magic marker to re-identify the batteries and mark as pairs.

As far as them be being designed for on make of battery that is just so complete dumb. The Lion Bats are all covered in shrink fit plastic and anyone that picked up one batch run of batteries and designed for a very, very close tolerance to the one group is not a designer and is rather naïve to think that the thickness tolerance of shrink tubing will hold the 0.5 thousand or that someone may add a sticker on the battery is not much of a designer.

The V.F. DNA40 had been out for a couple of months and the Manufacturer hasn't changed anything just sand the batteries and enjoy your Vapor Flask without concerns off not being able to get them in or back out.

This subject has been beaten to death and the solution that I picked up in this thread has been posted a gazillion times I just don't understand why people keep missing all the posted solutions to the Vapor Flask Battery fit issue.

When the subject comes up we should just tell folks how to work around the problem and warn them to remove any labels that may have been added to the batter surface.

PS - if they were machined for the VTC series of batteries they must come in two sized because the tube on the button side is about 0.5 thousandths smaller than the other side.

No worries man lol... i hate to burst your bubble though but... Well... Charlie (the owner) from VaporFlask said it in episode 52 of Plumes of Hazard.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbtOyfbhOSE Check min 38.30 and a few mins on for the whole (very interesting) discussion. Specifically check out min 38:43 "that is what we designed our product around" Charlie goes on to describe how when they designed the flask the Vtc series of batteries were the safest (or thought to be the safest) on the maket and they designed the flask for them. They knew the Vtc's had thinner wraps.
VFconstruction.jpg
min 39:04 they looked at the other batterys available like the purple Efest (they're not, nor is Evolv fans of the batteries) "so they decided to roll with the battery tolerances they had."

It was a conscious decision. No conspiracy theory. Straight from the owner's mouth and talked on for quite a few minutes.

I'm getting a flask... no doubt... but i'm NOT going to sand or rewrap my batteries so they fit in a precision milled, $300 mod. I honestly dont think anyone should be comfortable having to do this! I'll use only Vtc's if i pick up a current rev. (that's going to suck). Just hope they enlarge the battery tubes on the next revision.

OK - just to be fair I listened to the video.

Which essentially says we couldn't make the tube walls any thinner so we went with the batteries that had the thinnest shrink wrap. That is not a design that is one big giant Oops that they couldn't work around. As far as one make of battery being better than the next that is purely subjective on their part.

snow blind, I am really thru with this topic and will only respond to someone that says "what the He!! my batteries won't fit". with a quick and dirty fix... Sand them or buy new thinner Shrink Wraps. I will never defend Vapor Flasks very poor decision to go with an OEM battery that in the next run may come with a thicker Shrink Wrap in the future. I would love to here Vapor Flask stumble all over themselves when that happens.

Regards,

It would be nice if the batteries were all the same size

BNEAT,

I just watched a video on how to put new Shrink Wraps on 18650 batteries. And he made mention that the VTC5s are a little different in length also. Not a big deal but different.

I have a "Seven 30" mod and yes I really like it. That out of the way there is enough difference in 26650 battery length the base cap is adjustable so you don't have to be concerned about different manufacturers or changes in "Batch Run" battery length.

The trouble with the flask battery tubes is the flask I don't believe you can find any Lion batteries that spec out into plus/minus 2 thousandths range. That is just not reasonable. If you don't want to sand (and I do understand that I am not fond of doing it myself) you can try some new wraps from this place 10 for $1 and you can use a hairdryer to shrink them on.

Available here: http://www.illumn.com/

But I agree with you 100% it sure would be nice if all 18650s were the same size. I just can't imagine receiving a $300 dollar mod only to find that the batteries I have don't fit. I got lucky and had some that with a little extra push fit but I did have a bad time trying to get them back out and wondered how many times I could bank them on the palm of my hand before something internal gave up the Ghost before the batteries came out. Then I stumbled on someone's post about Scotch Brite-ing them and never looked back.

That would be pretty difficult for them wouldn't it! lol All in all Charlie and the VF guys genuinely care about their product and customers so i'm sure we'll see it addressed in the next revision. Still doesn't really detract from how nice the mod is.

Snow Bird,

Just out of curiosity do you know if the previous models i.e. DNA30 had battery size issues?

To tell you the truth i have no idea. I wasn't interested in the V1 with non-removeable batteries... so i've just been closely following since the DNA40 rev of V2.

I just took a look at the Vapor Flask DNA30 V2 and it has removable batteries.

Does anyone know if it had the same battery problems as the DNA 40 Flask? It is not really important but I don't think I have heard anyone say "Yup the DNA 30 and 40 had the same problem".

It's also mentioned on the Warranty card that the VTCs, along with the LG HE2, are the only batteries approved for the device.

I don't think there was any milling revisions that took place between the V1 and V2 DNA30... someone correct me if i'm wrong. I believe the only changes were the fire button and the addition of the battery doors. The DNA40 version, from what i've read, only changed the board and the 510 and some engraving on the bottom. Again... someone more knowledgable... call me out if i'm wrong.

ignotus,

I don't doubt the warranty card says that. But I will say that approved and "anything else won't fit" are kind of different ball games.

Provari mods say the same thing about "Only AW IMR batteries" but I have yet to find other brands that doesn't work just fine in it. I don't know but this thing about battery size matters is not very productive.

If it is too big it won't fit and you can either spend more money for new batteries or you can borrow your wife's Scotch Brite pads and be up an running in about five minutes.

This would be an opportune time for a "Size matters joke" but this is a family channel. ;)

I had DNA30 V2 and I can confirm that YES....it had the same battery fitment problems. I could only get VTCs or LGs in my DNA30 Flask.
