I've been trying too resist the VF, but my heart wasn't in it.

So when I discovered a local vape store here in Kuala Lumpur selling the DNA40 I had to have it.

Went down there this evening and paid $310 USD, so I'm really hoping I've got an original and not some clone - but this is Asia!

I'm hoping you good people of the VF thread could confirm what I have.

The build quality is great and the battery covers line up, but what's bothering me is there is no VF logo above the USB.

Also the fire button, which is fine, doesn't take much pressure to push. I'd call it very light, but I remember PBUSARIO saying it was a very firm stiff button.

Here's some Pic's hope you can help:

<snip>

Yes, you've got an authentic. As Rikk mentioned, VF only recently began adding the VF logo above the USB.

It appears to me that your fire button is protruding out too far though. I would press it firmly with my thumb to ensure that it is completely in place.

Send a FB PM directly to Preston Kight. Preston is the VF CSR, and he's a great dude to deal with. There's also a VaporFlask Owners Group you can join on FB where you can get contact info as well.

Just to tie this up: after dragging my feet a bit, I did contact Preston on FB. A week later, I received a replacement, which, given I live in Europe, is super fast. Thanks for the pointer, and big thanks to Preston for handling this in an extremely nice way. Big up to Vapor Flask.:thumb:

The fire button is wayyy to far out, also on my VF the 510 isn't copper but brass, so that might be worrying. The fire button should have no travel at all aside from a click movement and that it, it shouldn't move then click or anything like that. (next up are things I noticed when comparing it to my BlackOut Edition, so this isnt a sign of a fake but some things exhibited by older flasks). The M in made is off, the center triangle should be in line and reach the bottom, also the space between Made and In is far too great. The vent holes seem a tad larger in diameter as well. The little hole above the USB is a bit off in position and very low near the USB cut out. The USB port is also FAR too recessed inward. (These differences are understandable going in comparing it with a newer flask, so don't think these are bad signs, as I have seen a few authentics with nearly all of these I mentioned).

The last few points I made could also be seen on some earlier flasks so that might not be the case, but the copper 510 and the button really have be worried. Maybe you got an older one that was maybe built wrong, but the 510 copper is my biggest mystery.

EDIT: OH AND TO ANYONE WHO HAS A WOBBLEY USB, that is not a fault but a feature they put in purposfully so you dont forcefully dislodge the USB housing from the frame. If it wobbles, thats GOOD to see on an authentic.

Thanks TKS,

I've had the VF for almost a week now, and have had the time to compare it with images on the internet.

I'm now convinced it's authentic.

I found some images of the same model in the same colour (Gun Metal), and they were absolutely identical, including the fonts, spacing, vent hole sizes, etc..

The 510 pin is actually brass on mine. The pic's I posted are a little misleading on that, as I took them in poor light, and I can see that the pin looks more like copper in the pic (a darker more red colour). Actually looking at my VF the pin is the exact same colour as my battery covers, which I assume to be brass, and don't look at all like copper.

I do think I have a poorly assembled fire button, it does have about 1.5mm of play in it, before being firm, but I think this is just an example of VF quality control.

Having read this entire thread, I feel very lucky that this is the only issue with my VF in terms of build quality.

The button doesn't bother me at all, and I'm extremely happy with my VF.

It does seem that VF make some quite big changes between models. I was surprised to see that on some new models that "Vapor Flask Made In The USA" is not even engraved on the bottom, but in white paint.

In any case I'm all good.

Thanks for the input.

So Vapor Shark will be selling their Vapor Flask from the 20th June 2015, and for just $189 USD!

I took a look at the website and am a bit confused by the finish. It says their VF is still made from aluminium, but talks about a rubberised finish? Really don't understand what that means.

Why would you cover the smooth aluminium VF in rubber? No it can't mean that.

The website is only showing a black version. I'm hoping they won't be doing a Gun Metal version, as it will help me justify spending $300 USD on mine last week.

Have to say the new large screen looks like a practical improvement. I do struggle to read the tiny font on mine, particularly the Ohms read out.

I'll be keen to see the reviews.

I have to share this with my fellow vapor flask owners. Tired of carrying your flask in your pocket? I just got this beautiful kydex holster custom fit for the vaporflask. Molded to protect the buttons from accidental firing or setting changes. Comes with a belt clip and rigid belt loop for secure carrying. Excellent craftsmanship

I have a couple of those holsters as well, but mine hold my 9mm and 357 mag snub nose! :D

Major,

Do you have a ling where you purchased it? It looks really nice and the fact that it is molded to avoid button press a a big plus. I have several cases that will hold my VF just fine as long as you don't mind the buttons getting pressed.

Thanks Major,

The price is a lot better than what i was expecting. You can go to Wal Mart and spend more than that for a junky iPhone case.

Now the only thing holding me back is my Sister she says I look like a Geek with my cell phone clipped to my belt. I told her I would start carrying it in my pocket if she was willing to buy me a new one if I sit on it and break it. By the way she declined any responsibility if I sat on it.

It's actually pretty comfortable to wear. I would always slip my flask in my back pocket but it was difficult to retrieve and your always afraid of forgetting it and sitting on it. The flask slips in and out of this holster smoothly and the best part is the buttons are protected. So no need to lock it. I have one for my vapor shark rdna40 and it fits with the shark skin on like a dream. Same button protection.

:(:(:(Whelp, flask bit the dust tonight. Knocked it of the dresser on to carpet accidentally. It landed on the drip tip of the subtank mini straight up and down. Hit hard enough to bend in the positive on my vtc4s. Knew it wasn't a good sign when the batteries slid back and forth inside. New batteries do the same.

Subtank mini still hits like a champ though.
