Perhaps is this an old issue but I have not run across it in the context of the e-liquids that most of us use. On another thread the issue arose concerning a rain storm that brought several people in close proximity and a vapers choice to vape. The issue was the negative looks that accompanied the vape. Suspecting that those negative looks arose from the vapor (or mist or fog or whatever it is) that came with the exhale, it seemed reasonable that a stealth type e-liquid should exist for occasions that might require a vape but without the vapor. And, it seems reasonable that this is doable. That is, instead of PG or VG as a carrier of the nic, why can't the nic work with some other carrier that is not "smoke" intensive. For example, why not nic and water? Why not nic and ethanol? Is there not an e-liquid that provides the nic but with the "smoke"? Not suggesting this for an everyday vape but perhaps on "special" occasions. Any thoughts on the matter?

Ethanol would be bad, very bad.

There is one vaporless ecig that I know of, RE/AL from Smokefree Intotec, but I honestly don't see them lasting much longer. They've had issues (just released their product) and just a few days ago it was announced their CEO was charged with stock fraud (related to their company, in 2009). He has since resigned, but doesn't bode well IMO.

Did notice in the original post that I said "Is there not an e-liquid that provides the nic but with the "smoke"?" What was meant was nic without the "smoke". Seems as if understood notwithstanding the error.

But wondering - why is ethanol so bad? Most standard e-liquids already have some ethanol present. Some more at the expense of reduced PG maybe?

Good idea but as MissEerie pointed out stealth vaping may be the way forward.

Might be the way. However, I find the process awkward and usually impossible for total hold. Perhaps a process that becomes less awkward with practice. But still seems like there should be a way without "smoke". I wonder if people who use inhalers like Nicotrol exhale after inhale.

Fundamentally the way a PV works is to use heat to vaporize your e-liquid. Ethanol has a low flash point and could ignite fairly easily. While there are many juices that may have some, they would be diluted enough so it wouldn't be a problem. It's like dropping a match in a cup of Budwiser at 4% abv (8 proof) vs into a cup of grain alcohol at 90% abv (180 proof)...

I'm looking at a bottle obtained from LF. Ingredients list shows 10% ethanol (Technically 2-acetylpyradine ethanol). My suspicion would be that could be stretched higher. Perhaps not 90% - but maybe 50. Balance might be water to make up for missing VG or PG. Or even, why not just water to substitute for VG or PG. Lack of vapor takes some of pleasure out of experience but still might be an OK in a stealth type situation. Might beat an inhaler since flavor could still be there.
