I can tell you this without one doubt;
Before that, I had stopped running regularly because I became discouraged by seeing the effects of 16 years of smoking a pack a day (past 3 years = 1.5+ packs a day) finally take their toll.

I had been smoking roughly two packs a day for the past 28.5 years, but had been working out and speed-walking before I switched to vaping and snus.

2 Miles in 23 minutes.

I was doing a two mile speed-walk in 25 minutes, again, before I switched to vaping. At one point in time, I was even carrying 25 lbs of dumbbells, on a regular basis, as I did this.

I honestly can't tell much difference since switching to vaping. I have since decided to stop speed-walking and start jogging instead, but that was only because the speed-walking wasn't doing anything for me anymore. I will turn 45 in a few more months.

On the other hand, I have a history of high levels of phsyical activity in my past, whether roller-blading 50 miles a week 15 years ago, when I was smoking 2.5 packs per day, or whether climbing a local mountain 3 times a week 3 years ago, while smoking 1.5 packs per day.

Great links (especially the phytoestrogens link). Not very appetizing (lol), but doable.

I'm a little concerned about this line: "For example, for reasons the researchers do not understand, even a high consumption of phytoestrogens did not reduce lung cancer risk in those people studied who had smoked and then quit." Maybe none of this makes any difference, after all.

Oh, well, I have many, many years of heavy smoking and poor diet to counteract, so it can't hurt.

I can not believe all of the hypochondriacs blaming stuff on the vaping.
UNBELIEVABLE... cmon "muscle cramps"????

You are doing your body GOOD by stopping the inhaling of burnt matter.

I would safely say 95 percent of all of the "symptoms" mentioned here are nothing to do with vaping.... some people just get crazy with the paranoid "symptoms" wow lol

Does anyone know if vapor damages the lungs like smoke does? I know it's supposed to be safer than smoke, but does it have any effect on lung capacity and the like?

One of the things I have been concerned with is that, VG is a humectrant (a substance that absorbs moisture). I assume that while in your lungs it is absorbing the mositure around it. And I would assume that if it is going into the lung tissue it is absorbing moisture there too. So this would explain the drying or dryness that some experience of the throat, lungs, skin, etc. as it is most likely pulling moisture from the tissue around it.

My biggest concern is that it could be over moisturizing the lungs in some people that are constantly vaping. If used in moderation, and the right nicotine level obtained to prevent just puffing away all day on a personal vaporizer, I feel it is relatively safe. But I am concerned with someone not taking into account that moderation could be a health factor here. I have noticed frequently on this site that some seem to be overusing and experiencing some of these symptoms.

The big question: Would it be possible for someone not using common sense or moderation to flood the lungs with fluid or liquid (suffocation) by overuse? My guess is yes.

Respectfully, excessive use of VG could cause dehydration, which in turn could cause muscle cramps. Actually, there are many symptoms stated in posts here on the site, that are medical signs of overdose of VG, nicotine etc. Moderation and common sense are key here.

This is so encouraging. I smoked for 36 years. I started vaping a month ago or so and have been analog free as of 3 weeks today. I've been noticing a slight improvement but was afraid I'd already done too much damage. All these stories have helped me.I feel better all ready. Thanks guys!
Don't be discouraged. I smoke for 30 years, and after 4 weeks, I started coughing up stuff, then it stopped and then it came back again. It takes a while but it will happen.

Skymonkey, the problem is that everyone has been brain washed to believe if you quit smoking your going to feel wonderful that day/for ever and they never mention the side effects of quiting smoking. So when people start vaping it has to be the vaping causing them to feel bad or have a problem..

I promised, after my first post on this thread, I was going to stay away,
However, reading some of the comments, I had to jump back in

I need to emphasis, that smoking analogs WILL KILL YOU............
Vaping MAY KILL YOU, however, we do not know this yet.
AND BY THE TIME THEY FIGURE IT OUT, WE WILL PROBABLY BE DEAD FROM SMOKING ANALOGS
If you are concerned that Vaping is not good for you, then STOP VAPING

I second the bacon sandwich, since everything is killing me, according to one expert or another expert.

THERE YOU GO!!!

At this point in many of our lives,

as Butch said to Sundance

" ITS THE JUMP THATS GONNA KILL YA"

All I know and My doctors have confirmed, I made that JUMP sometime back and that is a BIG FAT OH WELL!!

Hello - I'm new to this and scared to death. Smoke two packs a day and have to quit. I bought an Ecig from England with cartridges. I don't know if anyone has tried these - you have to suck real hard and the vapor is not pleasant. Does anyone know if you can refill these cartridges? Also, the battery doesn't last long.

Also, how often is it safe to smoke these things? Also, I know there is an e cig out there that you can dial up and dial down the strength of the nicotine. Isn't nicotine poison and if you get too much of it - it's deadly.

Please help - I'm so confused.

Sorry you are so confused dont be, read the posts and get familiar with everything and anything you can, especially if you are putting it into your body
If you smoked for all those yrs, you have been getting plenty of nicotine in your body for a while now, plus all the other crap inside analogs

The ecig you heard of, dial up down and all around I do not know of, never, but that means nothing
As far as nicotine, it has some good to it as well
You need to become as knowledgeable as possible, then you will not be scared to death
good luck

I see some people claiming strange and seemingly unrelated side effects to vaping.
The effects I have had have been very positive. Although the "dryness" feeling in the lungs is lightly present.

Anyways, I just think that the beneficial effects of vaping over smoking arent being reported in this thread as much as they should.

The thread is called "Effect on the lungs". Now I think there should be a TON of major positive things being said in here regarding the effects of not inhaling actual smoke...but a mist.

Ive also noticed that people that are having some sort of "side effect", are either on way to high mg of nicotine, or are vaping more than they smoked... correct me if im wrong.

After more than 30 years of smoking I couldn't realistically expect my lungs to start functioning much better but there is little doubt that after 5 months of vaping they are... I have just come home from a walk to my local beach which is at the bottom of a cliff and normally on the way back I have to stop for a good few minutes at a handrail about 3/4 of the way up the cliff to catch my breath and let my heart stop pounding but although I stopped there today I know it would have been possible to have made it to the top.

I think that the placebo factor on this forum runs very high. For both the positive responses towards E-smoking as well as the negatives and side effects. I mean u get people who are like I quit smoking for five days now and i can climb mount Everest. while u get others who think vaping is causing their withdrawal effects.
