does it matter what gauge of wire i get? or should i ask is it better to have more wrap or less?

I assume you are referring to the nickel wire? Most of the building tutorials I have seen are showing examples with 30guage which is what I picked up. I've been told that 28 is the easiest to work with but requires more wraps. The higher the gauge, the more "springy" and harder to shape the wire, I've been told, but also requires less wraps. Someone please correct me if I got that wrong, though.

Of course - without the dna 40 I ordered 3 weeks ago, no real need for this nickel wire anyhow. :p

Hmm. From my experience, that is mostly applicable to kanthal. For Ni200, both 28 and 30 are extremely extremely soft and malleable.

My preference used to be 28ga because it's not as soft as 30ga and is thus easily to build. But now my fav is to twist 2 strands of 30ga tightly. The wire becomes a lot more robust.

If you're not looking to twist wires, 28ga would be my preference. But that's just me. A lot of folks like using 30ga too

I agree that 28ga would be much easier to work with if you're not going to twist it. But you also have to take into account how large of a deck you're building on.

Look at a good coil resistance calculator and make sure that the deck will comfortably fit the resulting coil.

For example, to get a 0.2 Ohm build of a 3mm diameter coil, you'll need something like 14 wraps of 28ga nickle.

For 30ga nickle, you'd need 9 or so. That's a big difference in the size of the coil.

On decks with lots of space, there is no real issue. But on smaller decks like my Russian 91%, it would be a challenge getting a 14 wrap coil in there.

Nope. Standard shipping. I purchased the kit (rDNA 40 + Russian 91% + Sharkskin). Shipped on Tuesday the 2nd, arrived on the 4th.

I was totally impressed.

Then again, I have another vape-mail order coming from Jacksonville Florida that was shipped on the 4th, supposed to be delivered yesterday, and according to the tracking is still in Jacksonville FL... Luck of the draw I guess!

Yes 28ga has to have big coils. I used a 6-32 screw and got 10 wraps.....came out to .16 ohms. I had to be very careful when screwing the kayfun chimney back on. Just ordered some 30ga yesterday so I can start building the twisted coils like the beautiful ones Kiwi has been posting.

Anyways I'm in love with my rdna 40. I've been running both kanthal and nickel builds and have not had any problems so far. Last night I decided to do some dripping. Ran my .51 ohm TOBH build at 40 watts for probably an hour and it performed flawlessly. Loving this device but my heart goes out to all the people that are still waiting on their orders.

I agree with Kiwi (and Joppa). I have been building my Lemo's for a few weeks using 28g 9wrap spaced (around a 6-32 screw, which gives it a 2.5mm ID) coil that has a resistance around 1.2 to 1.4. They have been working flawlessly at 25watts/410F, once you understand how to get the proper reading from the DNA chip, and keep it.

how is that luck of the draw when people who ordered before you, are stills tucki n 'processing' o_O, it seems vaporshark just picks from a grab bag of names instead of fulfilling orders by date. this makes me feel highly uneasy due to the fact that they are probably still receiving orders of the rDNA40

it doesn't make sense for a business to randomly fill orders; and if that is what they are doing, it really gives me pause to deal with them. vaporshark said to allow 15 business days for processing (it's now 30 days), when I ordered it on 12/1 at 1:30am. I'm giving them until the 12/19. if they haven't fulfilled my order by that date, I'm cancelling and will wait for a vaporflask or try and pick one up in the classifieds.:)

.16ohms seems kind of high for 2.5mm ID/10wraps.. Base resistance should be around .11-.13ohms.

Anyhow, I agree 28GA ni is the best if you're NOT twisting. I do 12wraps around 1/8 (3.0mm ID) which gives me .18ohms. Works great at 40W/470F for 80VG juice on my lemo. No dry hits mang.

Has anyone actually asked them why they are sending out the combo rdna orders before the single rdna ones? I know I read a few posts where the claim they are not shipping any rdna units out yet but has someone actually brought up the combo package issue? I ask this because I was discussing this issue with my wife last night and she made a really interesting point. When she recently purchased her iphone 6, she had to wait longer to receive it than the people who bought the iphone 6 package....which I believe came with a case and some other extras. It frustrated her so much that she had to wait 2 more weeks when other people were getting their iphone 6 package deals. Anyways just an interesting perspective.

Yeah well its more than 2.5 mm for sure. I was able to get my 3 mm screwdriver through the coil with zero resistance. So I would venture to guess that the diameter of the coil is in the 3mm plus range.

20-30 day delay for orders made on 12/1 or before or orders made today or later? Their site now has a banner advising of a 30 day delay for orders.

Idk. I talked to Mike very nice guy. Called because my order didn't show in my account but my cc was charged and I had a confirmation email. He than said that he would like to inform me that there is a 20-30day delay on these orders. That would put it where? mid January? Too long of a wait for me either way regardless of the $30 I saved.

Man that sucks....I'm really sorry to hear that. I had zero expectations of receiving my shark before Christmas.....that's why I was so surprised when I received a shipping notice.

lol. Yeah, I think we're talking January before these are sent out. I lived without one all this time... I can live a little longer without one.:) Now, I am really starting to think vaporflask. I'm still going to wait until the 12/19, which is what vaporshark said would be the processing time. If they haven't processed my order, i'll cancel then. good luck to everyone.:)
