mwa - would you say it's a fact that vaping increases someone's bsl more rappidly than eating. So whatever little amount of sweetener is in the juice would have a magnified increase on one's bsl after vaping because it's delivered more directly to the blood stream.

It doesn't seam to effect me, maybe my pancreas is handling things just fine. If it were impaired like with diabetes then maybe I'd see spikes. I just don't want to over stress my pancreas unnecessarily. I want to find a sweetener that does the least damage to my body.

I really would love to see more diabetics getting involved in this thread. I want to see some fasting blood sugar level test being done when people first wake up in the morning and then they take there BLS and take it again after vaping for about a half hour to an hour then taking it again and see just how much it goes up. I'm very much curious if this is the reason I'm running high myself, and if VG is doing this or PG or the combination of both. I love vaping a high VG count in my liquids.

Tomorrow I myself am going to start this test when I first wake up, it really sucks if this in fact is the case why I'm always running high for the last 2 years because of my vaping. If it is only VG that does this and this is what is effecting me and spiking my BSL's then I'm going to have to give up my loved VG daily vape and switch to PG and I would hate to have to switch to PG.

I really wished I could get more people into this thread and testing BSL's after vaping VG liquids, Maybe AngusATAT will get more involved, gonna PM him and ask him

I'm not familiar with that type of meter either, but each number must correlate to a blood glucose range. The meters most of us are familiar with give you an exact readout of the blood sugar level (within 10% +/- of what a lab test would show of course).

Good to know 4 (on your meter) is okay! I got a little scared too when I saw that.

What are these BSL you are posting here, these numbers are surely not blood sugar levels, if they where you would be in a coma right now ? either I'm missing something here or your meter is not set correctly, you Blood sugar should be between 80-120 at normal levels IOWN, so can you explain what these numbers are you are posting please so I understand ?

I wanted to share something interesting with all of you that I have been experimenting with. Since I was having crazy spikes vaping vg juice, I stopped and went back to very high pg juice (which I don't particularly care for). I saw a Dr. Oz show that discussed the benefits of drinking/consuming in some way, 2 tsps of cider vinegar prior to lunch and dinner (or any higher starch meal). The vinegar can be swallowed straight if you can stomach it, used in a salad dressing, or diluted with water and swallowed. It is supposed to reduce the absorption of carbs by 30%. They also recommended GTF Chromium Polynicotinate supplements.

EDIT: Here's the link to some of cider vinegar studies: http://www.apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.com/vinegar-and-diabetes.html

Well, I started doing both (vin. and chromium before lunch and dinner). Then I thought...hmmm, maybe I could do this before vaping vg to prevent spikes. I did, and have been able to vape it in moderation w/o significant rise in BS. The most it goes up now is approx 10 points, which I can handle.

The only negatives I have been able to find in researching the possible side effects of consuming the vinegar are that it can interfere w/ calcium absorption, so if a person is at risk for osteoporosis, it could be a concern, and also, it can wear down tooth enamel. There seem to be ways around both of these issues, so still researching to find the happiest medium. I'll try to find the links to share with you all in case you're interested. these two natural "remedies" might be a lot of help to all diabetics out there, along w/ a healthy diet of course and avoiding sugar, starch etc.

I'm really interested in seeing your results mwa. I really wish diabetics would get more involved in looking into possible causes of spikes too (as it relates to vaping), it would help all of us out so much!

After starting the cider vinegar thing (2tsp before lunch and dinner), and taking the chromium polynicotinate w/ both meals, I've had very normal bs, and am now able to vape higher vg juice w/o much of a rise. Not sure if i'll be able to do it forever, but am keeping really close tabs on levels. Going through test strips like a mad woman :)!

Hope those things help you too! pg juices are nowhere near as good as the vg stuff IMHO.

It's just my personal opinion/a little experience so far I've found no change in b/s with vaping but am mostly on pg rite now as soon as I get my reo in next week or so I plan on going straight vg an will be able to give some more input. I do find it unlikely that the small omount of juice should really make much if any difference in b/s but maybe it depends on how brittle your diabetes is I can't say for sure. I know mine is very stable I'm lucky as I've been insulin dependent for 35 years now. I did mention earlier in this thread that some of the additives could cause some change I can't say for sure what but for example I at one time had some dandelion tea around the house don't really know why. But any way I drank it several times and after a few times realized each time I drank it my b/s dropped. Also I for several years was taking creatine and whenever taking it I had to eat pretty much a third more than normal to keep b/s up they both seemed to lower my b/s or make the insulin work better. Whatever you do take care hope your able to find the right balance. Darrel

I have been wondering about the effects that VG has on our bs too lately. I am so glad to see this thread. I have been diagnosed with sebbhoreic (sp?) dermatitis about 6 months ago. It is caused by yeast which thrives on sugar. I have had no luck getting it under control and have been wondering if the 50/50 that I use has played a role in things. I also have diabetes that runs heavily in my family so I am very interested in this thread and will be keeping up with it. Thanks for starting it.

PS I drink a teaspoon of Braggs Cider Vinegar daily. I swear by the benefits. It has to be organic and contain "the mother" in it though or it will not work.

I wouldn't say that to be true, I'm no DR but I think what you eat , I know what you eat directly effects your BSL pretty quickly that's a fact. I want to learn however how vaping effects blood sugars much more, I'm on a special diet to control my blood sugars and what started this whole thing for me is while on this diet my sugars where and still are spiking up high while vaping, so somehow inhaling this vapor is effecting me and my BSL's and I love vaping VG, I haven't experimented enough to figure it all out yet but I'm about to and this thread hopefully will help others and even me learn as much as we possibly can about vaping & BSL's IOWN. THE MORE PEOPLE WE HAVE POSTING REAL BSL NUMBERS RIGHT NOW THE BETTER !!! One of the main things I want to learn is what we can vape that doesn't spike our BSL, is it just the VG ??? or is it some of the other ingredients NIC,PG and additives that makes it spike even more or can we make a juice that we will be able to enjoy at the same time that wont spike our BSL's !!???

I'm hoping to get to the bottom of this rather quickly, I may have to quit vaping if I don't and that would purely suck because I really enjoy vaping. I hope with the help of everyone that gets involved in this thread and post things that will help us learn as much as we can that we come to a resolve of just what we can and cant vape that way we can control our BSL and continue to enjoy vaping.

salemgold...i'm sure the organic cider vinegar you drink is a lot better than the regular stuff...have read about the "mother" and it's really interesting, but wanted to share that regular old store brand cider vinegar works too. it's helped my post meal and post vape bs levels greatly.

Salemgold,

I wanted to come back to say thank you so much for mentioning the Bragg's Organic Cider Vinegar. Even though the regular cider vinegar helped some, I went ahead and bought the Braggs upon your recommendation. The difference it has made in my bs levels is astounding, I can hardly believe it. Even my husband is totally amazed. It's actually been a Godsend!

I've been "drinking" 1-2 tsp's before breakfast and dinner, and a tsp before vaping vg, can vape all I want now...couldn't be happier! not only can I vape without worrying, but can have the occasional food treat (still no sugar, but things like an eggroll for example) without my bs skyrocketing, which I couldn't do before without problems...I just keep a little squeeze bottle of the braggs in my purse and drink a shot before eating.

I hate to sound like a cornball, but gotta say, I'm so grateful to all of the ECF'ers like you who so openly share their advice and help eachother out with info like this!

I'm telling every diabetic I know about this now and will spread it forward whenever and wherever I can.

Thanks a million!!!! :)

Well I've got a couple weeks now with my reo. So I've been using a lot more vg asi previously posted I had no BS changes with PG and now I can say absolutely no Change with VG. I got a chuckle out of the dispute over the BS measurements earlier on. I remember in Canada when we changed from mg/dl to mmol how confusing it was. As I'd been using the old measurements since 3 years old. Now I forget the old and all I know is the new mmol. I wonder if the blood sugar changes may have something to do with new lifestyle habits and energy. I did find when I first stared vaping I had considerably more energy. Maybe due to the extra oxygen My body was absorbing ? I hope you all are able to find your happy spot with vaping/BS

My entire family believes in the Braggs with the mother. If you google it you will find many health benefits that can be gained from it :) My mother is a diabetic and she uses braggs and cinnamon daily and they both help her tremendously with her blood sugar. I really wonder how much of a part the flavorings in the juice play a role in raising BSL. I mean we already know that artificial sugars stimulate the pancreas so I would have to believe that tasting sweet flavors may have a part in all of this.
