pdib.. This twisted wick set up is still going strong (10mls so far). I'm hitting it hard with a .8ohm coil on mechanical. I have not had to go horizontal (or do a genny tilt) yet. Its wicking as good as any "solid" rolled mesh I have had.

I didnt cut the mesh on an angle though. I just had some loose pieces of #400 mesh sitting around and twisted some mini wicks. Not sure if I got lucky or if I had done the angle cut with #500, my head would be exploding right now. lol....

One thing I did notice in the twisted wick build was that this much more effective when using the Petar K method. Using the twist in the wick to tighten or loosen to get optimal coil apposition was a breeze compared to a "solid" rolled SS wick.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Thinking it might be more capillary and less retentive (wicky). We won't know until someone does both . . . . . . . . . . . .

Right'o. I mentioned that in the "wire rope for wick" thread. (its splitting the conversation in two. i asked them to post findings here . . . . . . . . . . we'll see)

Yea not sure either, but in theory having longer vertical capillary pore distance vs horizontal capillary pore distance, should provide better capillary rise. I know people do the angle cut for u-wicks and it works really well. I will have to try that on the next build.

It might be worth checking in there, now and again, as well. "ethebull" says he's gonna try a wire rope/mesh rope hybrid. Sounds cool! The topic starts here → http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/rebuildable-atomizer-systems/375999-wire-rope-wick-35.html#post9102996

LOL...I just subscribed to that thread, seems like you are a step or two ahead of me.. I'm watching. :pop:

I have wrapped SS around silica many times (drippers) and yes, it will turn dark brown/black during use. The problem I had was the SS lasted much longer than the silica and it literally burned in half before the SS / Coil was worn out. Your better off using plain ole SS without another feeder wick IMO.

the problem is when im just using SS mesh its not wicking at all. im always getting a dry SS mesh. then I came up an idea to put a silicon wick so I can help wicking. I been using this for 3 days the vapor and flavor are still good.

That brown gunk will likely wash right off -- it does when I use silica in my IGO-L and gennies. Just was it in hot water and it's clean and white again, unless it's in direct contact with the coil, where it can be more stubborn. Dry-burning gets it pure white again, but that doesn't apply to mesh-wrapped silica.

I was thinking the silica would just be inside the mesh wick to aid in its wicking ability.

It wouldn't need to stick out the top or be in a U shape like the one pictured above.

In all my experience with silica wick, once you rinse the juice off of it, you can hit it with a lighter or torch and it's pure white, like brand new again.

Thanks! MY CRS got in the way, and I almost forgot about that.

EDIT: What gauge wire are you using, and what OHM did it produce?

Sorry guys. I was working on the next version. Which I can't help but call "OH MY GOD!" I'll take some pics and process/post those in a bit. (I'm very excited!) So, I took my micro-wicks and Shortyjacob's wire rope idea, and made stainless steel mesh tube rope. The capillary action of the spaces between the tubes is amazing. Add to this the densely compacted coils, and voila!
